I just did this on a 2011 Forester but if you have the flashing cruise control engine light traction control combo, it means your MAF is dirty or done. To clean it cost $10 in MAF spray, to replace it costs $40 in parts and 5 minutes with a phillips head screwdriver.
@animeman23 ай бұрын
I have the same problem with my 2017 Crosstrek, but my issue is that the transfer case is leaking oil apparently onto the MAF and it causes this issue to randomly happen from time to time. Dealer quoted a couple thousand to fix, along with some other issues but I planning to get rid of it soon anyways so I just dealing with not having cruise control right now, sigh.

That startup clip showing the rattle also shows what looks to be an aftermarket oil filter. It makes me think you have an oil filter that doesn’t have the required anti drain-back valve in it. On those Subaru engines with the top mounted filter you must use the correct OEM filter or an aftermarket filter with the anti drain-back valve in it because the oil drains out of the filter and then it takes a few seconds at startup to fill the filter again.
@oldblueaccord26293 ай бұрын
I have a 2014, I use the Subaru filter mine sounds 100% like that has since about 20k miles. The filter is mounted up top and pointed down...doesnt make sense to me.
@NovaResource3 ай бұрын
@@oldblueaccord2629From what I’ve read, there are multiple types of Subaru filters. Some do not have the anti drain-back valve, some do. The ones without the anti drain-back valve are designed for the older Subaru engines where the filter is on the bottom. Newer Subaru engines with the filter on top require a filter with the anti drain-back valve. I personally like the filter on top because it makes the oil change job easier. And as long as you use the correct filter, there is no issue.

I work for a dealer and for most people, unless they are mechanically sound it makes the most sense. Especially in 2024, people like convenience. Yes, we won’t be able to offer you retail value because that’s what we plan to sell it for but we tell you our offer and take care of all of the rest for you. Another thing a lot of people don’t realize as well is that you save a bit of taxes as the trade gets deducted from the new vehicle before it is taxed.

In January 2024 we traded in our 2015 Audi q7 TDI for $11K cdn on a 2023 GV60. I thought the tradein value was more than fair. The cheapest q7 TDI at the time in Ontario was about $18K. I knew it had a slight exhaust leak, needed a front passenger side wheel bearing, no codes stored or pending, tuned but emissions hardware intact. In 2017, my parents were offered $2000 on their dealer maintained 2008 Honda Odyssey (184K km) on a 2017 Acura MDX. I told them to let me sell it, and I flipped it for $7250. Kids helped me clean it up a bit, and I fixed a small dent/scratch in the rear quarter. No codes stored or pending on that one either.

@TheStrightPipes I own three Subarus: 1) 2015 Forester Limited 2.5, 2) 2019 Subaru Legacy Premium 2.5, 3) 2014 Subaru Impreza Limited. The ticking that you hear could be the A/C compressor as those are known to be relatively weak on that generation of forester and are know to make a lot of noise even when they are functioning correctly. Regarding the rough idle, check the oil as these cars are know for having oil burning and other oil issues. Also make sure that the spark plugs are good as that could also be a factor. Given that it is a Subaru the cost range could be very broad $500 to $4500 depending on the issues.

If you get a check engine light in newer Subarus. They disable a lot of stuff and put the CC, X-mode and the hill decent control lights on to convince you to have the car looked at... If the car also had eyesight, you would have a Eyesight light and your auto braking and lane departure warning would also be disabled. Also if the engine is cold, I do hear piston slap a lot more frequently in this gen Foresters when I start them to move them. (The things you know from working for a Subaru dealer)

Missed a chance to drive the XT trim with the WRX engine and turbo. Dealerships are definitely scams though but it's kind of the cost of doing business. The check engine light because of the misfire is due to the gum up of the fuel injectors. Mr. Regular does a good explanation of it in his Nissan Rogue video. I just traded mine in because the fix is a $2000 repair to literally take apart the engine and clean off the carbon build-up, or several hundred to walnut blast it (hard to find in the GTA for some reason). This is what happened to my 2015 Forester at 220,000kms, suddenly started just running loud when it would rev up, silent at idle, no permanent codes. I ended up trading it in for a Honda Pilot instead, mostly because I wanted a smoother ride and a large trunk. If it weren't for that goddamn direct injection bullshit, I would have kept that car, it was so fun to drive. 270hp in an offroad sports wagon.

Not surprised by the ending. Wish it was a better outcome. What I’ve come to understand about Subaru’s is that they have some common faults that makes them less reliable in the long run. They’re more likely to need an engine rebuild after 180K km than the average Japanese car. Which sucks, because they’re a nice new car. Especially when AWD was less common. Common issues with these is cam carrier goes out and starting to oil leak which that happened to me 2k miles before its cost me $6k USD to reseal the engine. I had Subaru of America as goodwill provide me $3k to cover their half cost of the repairs and I have to pay out of my pocket half part. I had spark plugs replaced last year as well replaced both front lower control arm. Still expensive repair when comes to owning a Subaru.
