I've been using a flirt pole for about 10 years now and they were meant to be a rigorous exercise to expel energy from the ever so wonderfully high energy Pit Bulls. It builds stamina and releases that energy that could get them into trouble if not done properly. lol, Sharp turns are a great part of it because it keeps them focused on the object they are after which is all a part of other training exercises. This is not a kitty pole its a flirt pole meant to build awareness, stamina, agility, and to flat out wear them out. Flirting with their mind and keeping it unpredictable. is what you want. I have never had a problem like you are speaking of when introducing any dog to the pole, They all enjoy it. Im sorry i just think you have misunderstood the original idea of the FLIRTPOLE. Thank you though, Happy flirting
