If you don't want to use a drill and would rather play with fire, You can put the metal landing gear end over a candle to heat it up and push it through the caps. It is a lot of fun.

We use regular spray paint or automotive paint. Neither is good for foam, you just need to spray it very lightly and dry. That's all.

A little bit of toe-in (2-4 deg.) is good for taildraggers. It helps prevent groundloops.

Naming the Plane "Bixler" was the HK CEO's way of saying thank-you to Josh for what he is doing for the hobby. Especially new comers. If you are not aware, Josh and the CEO are good friends. Josh in NO WAY takes credit for the plane, and I don't think he ever has
@womackke12 жыл бұрын
You should just bend the ends of the wire to keep the wheels on, then they wont ever fall off.howevor you may lose your zip tie sponsorship

The only reason I hadn't bought this glider was cause of no landing gear(till now). Long flight times, durability, speed & being able to land & take off without having to touch the plane makes this the ultimate beginner plane. FPV makes it even better. I just want to come up with something to make it look stock though.

I Got tired of slicing my fingers open on the zip ties after I cut the excess off. To get around this on all zip ties now I cut them off flush and then hit them with a hot blade screwdriver to melt the sharp edge left by the side cutters. It usually also permanently melts the plastic tail to the sleeve so that you no longer are relying on the plastic spring action that can fail. Gotta go to to Dollar and get me a float now, thanks.

I'll be getting a Bix3 soon, and I think this would be a good alternative to the tiny wheels it comes with. I've got plenty of pop bottle lids and wire hangers, all I need is a noodle... :>

no need for a wheel in the back? you will trash the end on that rocks. is there a position where you should mount the landing gear? i supose the plaine should be balanced.

@Munky33212 жыл бұрын
yea, the only problem with the DT foamboard is that i've found that most of the stores dont locally stock it. best way to get it is to order it then have it shipped to the store. its ~1.00 per board, BUT you need to order it in 50 sheet quantities. so your talkin 50$ for foam board...
@SirLeetMan11 жыл бұрын
Hmm, what about having the wire be stuck through the wings and then secured with zip-ties? Unless that creates a center-of-gravity issue (in which case a third landing gear wheel could be attached to the nose of the plane and then the center-of-gravity could be moved forward) I don't see why this wouldn't work

I still couldn't build a durable landing gear. Either the wires bend or the attachment fails because the fuselage is basically foam.
@mrlamborginiguy12 жыл бұрын
couldn't you have bent the end of the wire to keep the wheels on, instead of using a zip tie and hot glue? I've found hot glue doesn't stick very well to metal, and I would think the zip tie would just slide off too easily.
@ultrakool10 жыл бұрын

So I accident gave toe in for the landing gear on my ft storch how should I remedy this
@wiltonsmith33973 жыл бұрын
On taildraggers, a little toe-out is far more preferred over any toe-in. (Think of what the airplane does exactly at the instant of touchdown.) Can you bend your toe-in out by the use of two pairs of pliers, or a vice and pliers?
