The C-47/ glider tow was epic! Kudos all around. This shout isn't for FT alone, but the whole community. We all love WWII Warbirds, so the C-47, F4U, P-38, P-51, Spitfire, etc are all winners regardless of version. FT has also done some really cool water planes like the "Tailspin" plane. So here's the challenge. A sport/scale WWII seaplane modeled after a real aircraft flown in WWII. Maybe a P-BY, or a Kingfisher? Waddaya y'all think?

When Stefan was trying the FPV chair, I got an idea for a FPV bombdrop. Build a vertical stand for the FPV goggles, and have a guy on the Goggles and another on the plane.
@SolarWebsite
@SolarWebsite 3 жыл бұрын
Why stop there? Build something like a B-17, with bombs and paintball gun turrets, and have a ground crew man the plane via FPV. Pilot, navigator, bombardier, 1 or 2 gunners. Then set a target to bomb, and have other people defend that target with fighters. A huge project, but that would be very cool!
@SolarWebsite
@SolarWebsite 3 жыл бұрын
I gave the idea some more thought: * Have the bomber take off first, let them take up position where they want. High or low, close by or as far away as their FPV system allows. Their choice. Don't let the fighter pilots see or hear where they go. * When the bomber is in position, let the fighters take off, let them take the defensive positions they want. Oh, the fighter pilot fly FPV, too, of course! * When both parties are in position, start the attack. Bomber approaches the target, fighters spot it and attack, somehow award points/kills when hits are landed. Maybe lasers are a better idea than paint balls, I don't know. Bomb hit (tennis ball or whatever) within X meters of target is a win for bomber crew. Huge project, interesting logistics (many FPV systems up at once) but sounds like it could be loads of fun. With FT's filming and editing capabilities, I think it would make for a great video.

Really immersive, even more with the DJI video on an hd monitor! Keep up the great work on the major upgrade and hope to see it get used quite a bit at Flite Fest, wish I could haul my cockpit out there, would make one hell of a head to head WW2 fighter competition!

Modeler tip; No tape or edge tools were used on the Allied "Invasion Stripes" . . . To maintain secrecy, the entire Allied air fleet received their stripes by hand with brushes and mops in the last 3 days before the invasion. They were actually quite messy.

Currently there are two C-47's living just over the hill from me at the Geneseo National Air Museum. Can currently see them parked on the field with other various aircraft on google maps right now. I'm not 100% sure but I think they may be restarting planned rides in the Whiskey 7 plane this season. They may also hold the air show (7-10 and 7-11) as well which is a big event I love to see as my apartment is right under where they do all the practice and staging for that show so I get to see that each year unhindered. I also get to regularly see the Ch 47' Chinooks on task flying out of various bases around my area.

Suggestion: Your kits are great and use the foamboard very efficiently, but can you possibly minimize waste further by adding fun mini-things to the unused foamboard - tiny gliders / throwers / boomerangs etc. Even little fun badges, logos etc would be a great way to minimize waste. Love your work.

When they let the specifications for the first gliders for the U.S. Army it was discovered that all the know full scale aircraft manufacturers were FULL UP building aircraft. So the Army thought about the skills necessary to build gliders, sewing canvas, basic carpentry, and the ability to bend and weld tubing. When they checked the vendors available that had some or all of those skills it was discovered the two that had the availability to fulfill the requirements were a REFRIGERATOR manufacturer, and a CASKET manufacturer (neither of these things are known for their ability to glide!!!!). Legend had it that Douglas designed the C-47, then the Army/USAF taught them how to OVER LOAD it! In Vietnam a lot of Goonies came up on airframe overhaul milestones and it was discovered that some had HALF A TON OF COAL DUST THAT HAD FILTERED THROUGH INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE AIRCRAFT FROM THE FLOORBOARDS HAULING IT INTO BERLIN DURING THE AIR-LIFT! Which means that those aircraft may have been flying over-gross loading for a DECADE!!!!
