The overnight coaches can be tiring sometimes, but some of us are on a budget and there just isn't any other option. You can make up sandwiches, take a thermos of tea, a book and something to listen to. It is okay. Dress comfortably, take ear plugs, an eye blind and a neck pillow. The drivers are always nice and friendly.

When I did London - Glasgow overnight trips a few times, the whole benefit of the fast coaches was that they'd trundle steadily down the M-way (with one stop at a service area) making it quite restful and even I managed to sleep quite a bit. If you are always pulling into towns, stopping and starting, then this will make far more disturbances and make it much harder to sleep. And traffic builds up earlier these days - by 7.30 you might get stuck in early commuting jams in London! I'm surprised it only took 2 hours longer to go via Edinburgh and Newcastle / Sunderland!

Such a shame there's nothing more comfortable for coaches in the UK. The LUX coaches in the Baltics are amazing. I went from Riga in Latvia to Tallinn in Estonia and it had a big plush leather recliner seat, free coffee, a screen in the back of the seat in front of you, headset, complimentary water and cereal bar, and the 4.5 hour ride cost about 20 Euros. I dunno why we put up with paying so much for so little in this country.

This was the first video I watched on your channel a year or so ago and made me subscribe. I've loved all your videos since. As someone who lives in Leicester it's worth noting that you picked up at Fosse Park on the outskirts of Leicester. Other Flixbus services carry on into Leicester City Centre and pick up at St Margarets Bus station. It can be confusing for some expecting to board at one place and the coach is at the other. I'm not sure why Flixbus do this.

This is an interesting one. It seems FlixBus tap into a previously unserved market by directly serving places like Sunderland with Scotland, Sheffield and the Midlands but only adding two hours on to the journey time with plenty of padding out of the timetable which allowed the driver to claw back nearly twenty minutes of delay. There's one thing I don't mind doing and that's long distance coach travel so I'd probably give this a bash one day. Excellent channel by the way. I only came across it by accident!

Back in 2001 my wife and myself went from Dudley in UK to Fuiggi in Italy, we took a total of 34 hours, there was a loo on the coach and we had about 6 comfort/stretch your legs stops en route, it was an overnight coach, my wife hated it as she couldn’t sleep, the worst part of the trip was going through the Gothard Tunnel, extractors weren’t working correctly and fumes crept into the coach, and of course we had to do it all again in reverse at the end of our holiday, would we do it again never, being senior citizens we both ended up with swollen legs and feet for a while after, interesting video.

Hi John, I was speaking to a lady with mobility issues at Glasgow who said she always travelled National Express. She said it was a little more costly, but she felt the comfort was better. At a couple of the stops we could jump out for a quick cigarette, but nothing more than a minute or two, so if it was purely to stretch legs, and the bus wasn't running too far behind schedule, you could stand outside briefly. There was a toilet on board, but you needed to descend a few steps to get to it (I chose not to explore this part of the coach). The extra £2.50 for the adjacent seat to be free was a life saver.

Hi David, on this bus they advertised row 1 seat A&B as 'Panorama' seats. Two guys got on at Edinburgh to find they were anything but premium seats. At least I had a little foot space under the seat in front, although I couldn't stretch my legs. The 'Panorama' seats may have had a forward view, but they also had a partition of some sort directly in front (where the door and steps are) and so there was zero leg room. They asked to sit further back despite paying this premium fare.

As you say, Flixbus is a new operator to the UK, after success in their operations in Europe and in the USA, and have teamed up with several partner coach operator fleets around the UK, including McGills in Glasgow for their overnight services between London and Scotland. By the way, you say in your introductory written text above, about this being the longest coach service in the UK; it's not! Megabus runs up to 3 daytime services and one overnight service each way between Victoria Coach Station and Inverness, usually via the M1 and A1 to Edinburgh on a total trip time of around 14 hours. There are usually stops at connection points in cities en-route and a 1 hour stop in Edinburgh. Other Megabus routes run from London to Glasgow via the M1 and M6, then via Perth as recorded below. Pre Covid, there were two Operators on the London - Inverness route, with both Megabus and National Express offering services; Megabus did both daytime and night services, whilst N E offered only the Overnight service. The latter operator has not reinstated the direct service as yet, but you can travel by either N E or Megabus from London to Glasgow and then use the Scottish Citylink or Megabus services to Inverness. The Megabus London - Inverness service also connects at Broxden Service Area in Perth with their service which runs between Aberdeen and Glasgow, then on to London via the M6, whilst the service via Edinburgh also connects by using the A1 to Newcastle, then Leeds before running down the M1. These services run in each direction every day and are the UK's Longest coach services!
