Duke actually gave Daphne the space to be herself, and be outspoken and strong. Duke, as messed up as he was, placed himself in her hands, and then she did a hell of a lot of work, like any good codependant would! Then you see the softness of Rege-Jean, and it is soooooo actractive in this new time, where men CAN be softer, when they aren't hiding behind their armour. He also lead her to discover and uncover her sexuality. That is a part of his power. He is different from all of the other schmucks in the ballroom. He is honest, and real, doesn't like to play games, and so is Daphne. That is why they are so good together. Rege-Jean is the BEST NEW LEADING MAN, and I want to see more and more of him as a lead man, strong, and soft. We want more of him!! Congratulations the both of you, and I'm rooting you on!! Ironically in the first scene when they bumped into each other they were both trying to escape he from the vulgar mama's who saw him as a catch for their daughterr and Daphne from Lord Berbrooke since her brother ran off all the other eligible suitors but for some reason didn't have problem with Berbrooke the perv. So that scene set up nicely what is to come next the ruse of them pretending to be a couple. Funny thing is they both got what they wanted from the ruse. Simon was no longer surrounded by women wanting to marry him and Daphne had better options than the perv. I agree the interaction made Daphne more confident but it also made Simon more comfortable in his skin and able to relax. Simon to me is definitely an introvert. He doesn't do well in crowds but in small groups and 1 to one he is much more relax and charming. When that crowd of women boxed him in at the party you can see how uncomfortable he was compare that to when he was having dinner with the Bridgerton or any scenes with Daphne.

I have read regency romances, harlequin historical back in the day. Throughout all my reading I have never envisioned the hero as Black and I am an African American woman. But when I watch Bridgerton with this actor I cannot imagine anyone else in the role. This is how I imagine a Duke to be in the novels I read. The mannerisms the subtleties everything was so on point with this actor. And I wondered why isn't Marvel knocking on this actors door because he could be the new Black Panther. Hell I could see him as James Bond.

Try reading Beverly Jenkins. She is American, her stories are American and romantic and hot. Of course you will not get ones set in Regency Europe but I think ideas have been built........
