I grew up camping on the Buffalo with my stepdad. He passed a few years back, I have a lot of fond memories on that river with him. My brother and I will be taking camping trip for a week on the river this October.

I'm sorry for your loss but how wonderful to have such great memories. ❤️ It takes a special person who will take the time to build memories with his kids like that.

I grew up visiting my Grandparents every summer who lived on Gaither Mountain outside of Harrison, so going to Ponca off the back of the mountain was our go to for fun! I have so many wonderful memories of the Buffalo river. Its beauty is so majestic, a true treasure that the state of Arkansas is so lucky to have ❤

Most memorable trip on the buffalo: aluminum canoe, 8 mile float, tornadoes in the area around 5 miles, now actively storming like crazy; charter van got stuck at the takeout, got back to camp STILL storming, no fire, no where to go. We didn’t know about the tornadoes until the next day , we just knew the storms were insane and the bus driver would NOT TALK. He was straight business, we helped load the stuff up frantically and the the guy went to haul ass out of the takeout and spun out and we had to wait for another van to come pick us all up and take us to camp. Where we now didn’t have cigarettes, lighters, most of our snacks, most of our drinks, etc. bcz it was all still on the bus that’s stuck on a rising river. It literally stormed all night and the next day. We knew it was going to have some rain, but when we got to the put in there was a chance of STORMS, not just rain. It was really sudden and worse than expected when planning the weeks/days prior. Twas’ wild.

WHAT??!?!?! That's CRAZY!! Wow, it's a good thing you didn't know about the tornadoes! I have tent camped in a severe thunderstorm and we had to gather up the children and run to the truck in the middle of the night because we thought a tree might fall on our tent. We camped in another severe thunderstorm on Greers Ferry Lake and the wind was so harsh coming off the lake that we thought our camper might flip. You never know what might happen out there!

Man I want to go down on the river one more time before my times comes I'm going into 70 years old . I lived in Tulsa before I came back home in Fort Smith . Most I met here are so far from theirf store and I can't get anyone to do this . When I was living Tulsa I made my friend to go with me on my time I got 4 all together on this and other heard about this big trip decided to meet us just for camping . Guess what? We went every spring for next 4 years . They were high time of my life going down on the river . I may have to set this all up like I did before so I can go . They were slot of fun . It does make you a lot better person before you went .

@AllAboutArkansasTravels5 ай бұрын
@@dannyramirez8241 it can be different depths based on the time of year. It can also be very swift. Before floating, always call the Buffalo Point ranger station to check depth and always wear a life jacket

I'm doing a 5 day float on the buffalo river, beginning of July...What's the camping like on it, in Missouri I'm aloud to camp anywhere flood waters reach, but I know not every state has the same regulations/laws....
@AllAboutArkansasTravels Жыл бұрын
There are campgrounds along the way. We camped at Buffalo Point but since you are doing such a long float I know you won't be at one Campground the entire time. You can camp along the way. When is the best time of the year to float the river?
@AllAboutArkansasTravels6 ай бұрын
Any time as long as there has been enough rain. You'll probably want to shoot for spring or early summer. You can call the ranger stations or an outfitter to check water levels. When we floated, the water level was at 2-4 feet and it was perfect.
