Inside the engine, ALWAYS go OEM. Outside, I have gone with 1A auto, and Rock Auto. It seems that the brand Standard Motor Products are pretty good. By the way, this never happened when I was young. You can thank the Communist Chinese for this, and it is not just auto parts, its EVERYTHING!

I worked for a company that made bicycle trainers. We were showing a product that we were going to produce. There was a Chinese company there and they were taking pictures of it. They had a copy of it out before we had ours out to market.

The problem is, the manufacturers have half bought this upon themselves in a couple of ways, firstly, the prices for genuine parts are so high they have made the market for counterfeit parts worthwhile and secondly, sometimes the quality of the manufacturers parts in the first instance are cheaply made of poor quality often plastic that just isnt up to the job which is partially responsible for why it failed in the first place, a lot of these manufacturers are trading on the good name they may of had in the past.

I bought a set of Mercedes branded spark plugs off eBay. They came in Mercedes-branded boxes too. But they were fake: after 5,000 miles the spark plug tips were no longer there and the engine misfiring. Noticed the Mercedes logo on the plugs were slightly blurred.

As a home/DIY mechanic, I now exclusively buy OEM parts. Even aftermarket from premium brands can be troublesome, especially with sensors. With aftermarket suspension parts, the cheapest brands (Starline from ECP) they will last less than 3000 miles and rubber bush stiffness is way out from the start. The "premium aftermarket" like Febi or Meyle will do 10k+ miles and probably 'feel ' right, but if you want 100k+ mile part life and to not be chasing your tail on wobbles and rattles, go genuine OEM!

Lemforder is the best aftermarket brand for suspension parts.

If the stealers didn't charge outrageous prices for oem parts more people would spend more for a quality part. I often buy from OE manufacturers and pay about half the stealer and often get parts with the Audi VW ground off the part.

Hi all About 5 years ago , i ordered Bendix front brake pads online from a reputable company for about half price They lasted exactly half the mileage of the previous ones ! Were they fakes or a bad batch , hence the low price ? I ll never know What i know 4 sure is that since then , i only go OEM 😉

"Oh, I can get the same part in this store at half the price." That is the reason why people get counterfeir parts.

Considering that I'm 41 and facing a job loss, I'm reviewing my financial plan. What investments should I make with $425,000 saved for retirement, $10,000 in an HSA, and a property that could generate me an extra $250,000?
