This short documentary tells the story of Hurricane Hazel and its effect on the establishment of the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, during a canoe trip down the Humber River.
Our route started in Bolton, and passed through the Nashville Conservation Reserve, Kleinburg, Woodbridge, Weston, and Etobicoke, along the way to Lake Ontario.
We paddled at least 70km, though estimates varied, and this took 14 hours of travel including 8 portages of 10 obstacles. The group saw at least nine beavers.
Research resources included the following books:
Humber River: The Carrying Place, 2009, by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.
Hurricane Hazel: Canada's Storm of the Century, 2004, by Jim Gifford.
