You`ve got to admire the Victorians the way that they had the sense to build the viaduct high enough to allow trains to continue to run over the river Trent in times of major flooding. As you said "Quality engineering." Nice video,thanks.

👍 and I suppose Fledborough is on another level. All those arches make sense now.

Wow, friends in the UK said it’s been bad but I didn’t realise it was that bad! That’s allot of water. Reading online now the Trent is up by 2.65 meters in some parts, that’s crazy. Stay safe and thank you for sharing this video (PS, get better soon!, nothing worse than a cold!) 👍

Cheers David. Wow that's nearly 3 meters 😲. Must be frightening to live so close to it.

Wow! I'd read about the flooding on the Trent but seeing this really brings home just how high the water is. I have ancestors from Girton and South Clifton, very close to the Fledborough Viaduct, so I'm familiar with the area from looking at it online, including one of your videos, but seeing this today is amazing and gives me a good idea of what things are like about five miles upstream - wet and saturated, if not underwater. Cheers and Thanks, Paul! Here's to some sunny days ahead!

Cheers Scott. I saw the pics of Dunham Bridge afterwards. To be honest I would have called in at Fledborough but I saw on Facebook that the road to North clifton was flooded. Hope everyone is safe.

Wow! That river is up by a huge amount. Lower laying areas are be devastated. It’s a real shame. 🇬🇧😞🇺🇸

Hi Martin. Yeah further up the river it has caused a lot of devastation. The land around River around here is designed to flood, but this is a lot worse.

Thanks for that little video Paul. The Trent has been in the news hasn't it as its so high the highest its been for years & alot of homes have been flooded along the river its so sad for people that, horrid start to 2024 for them . The river still rising even though its going to be dry for a few days. I don't think I could have walked that bridge with the river not that far underneath it. 😱 ❤😊

Thanks Carol. It's sad to see isn't it. In this part the residents didnt seem too concerned. But a bit further south I think was a different story. I don't think I could live so close to a big body of water like that. I hope all people and animals are safe and those with flooded houses get back on their feet quickly.

Mental how flooded the area got, looks like they built the viaduct just right, as you say it was constructed really well to withstand everything that's been thrown at it over the years but also it was built at just the right height. Didn't think you'd ran up those steps just assumed you'd whizzed the footage on so surprised when you said you had.

Certainly some flooding there Paul.I use to use to work for a local builder and we had a contract at West Burton and remember the trent with barges going up it when it wasnt flooded.
@WobblyRunner9 ай бұрын
I've seen barges going under on a few videos recently. Ironically I couldn't even make out where the actual navigation went in the flood 😄

Torksey Castle is on a bit of muddy land but I have never seen it that deep in water.
