This special by Beste Zangers (Best Singers) was all about the Eurovision Song Contest, because the 2021 edition will take place in Rotterdam: as Duncan Laurence (Dutch) has won the latest contest. In the episode, all artists translated various Eurovision songs from the past years to their own style. Due to an acute gallbladder operation, Floor was unable to fly from Sweden (where she lives) to the Netherlands. But if Floor cannot come to Beste Zangers, then Beste Zangers will just come to Floor! Hence the split screen. Euphoria is a song by Swedish singer Loreen, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012. That's also why everyone in the studio could sing it along. BTW Since the release of this cover it has been called Euflooria 😆

This was a special BZ episode, dedicated to the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, that will be hosted by the Netherlands next week. For this episode the singers all chose one of the winning songs from the past. Floor chose the winning song from 2012, which also happened to be the Swedish submission that year. Which makes me wonder: did she choose that song for it’s power, or because it was Swedish? Maybe both 😉. Floor couldn’t come to the studio as she was still recovering from the gal bladeer surgery that she had, so they brought the show to her. She recorded the track in her own studio in Sweden.

Loreen the original performer represented Sweden 🇸🇪 at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 and won that contest. Last year the Netherlands won that contest and on the road to the upcoming contest 2021 the Dutch RTV broadcast company AVRO-TROS brought together a nummer of good performers to honor former contest winners. They did this in the ‘Beste Zangers’ setting like they did before. So each of them are knowing by heart a lot these songs and singers who had ever won that Eurovision Contest over the years. Floor, since she has been living in the same country for years now, has chosen to choose a song by a winner from that country to cover with which she honors her second homeland Sweden.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2021 is set to be the 65th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. The contest will be held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, following the country's victory at the 2019 contest (2020 was canceled). Floor was asked to sing a song for this show to honor the previous winners of the competition. She chose this one, a song that won in 2012. Unfortunately she couldn't travel because she is still recovering from her surgery, but the Beste Zangers people decided she could do it from her home studio rather than leave her out of the show, so they organised this.

Floor appeared on Beste Zangers in 2019 and did a number of very memorable performances. The show has the "best singers" in The Netherlands come together for a week in Ibiza and take turns having the others sing to them. The songs that are sung are those that have meaning to the person who is being sung to. Either it's a song that has sentimental value (i.e. Floor singing to Henk Poort a song that his mother used to sing - Vilja-Lied; this song was the first one performed on the show and the first time most of these people, or the Dutch public, had heard Floor sing... yes, madness resulted!) or it's one of their own songs (i.e. Que Se Siente for Rolf Sanchez). The quintessential performance from the show is Floor's duet with Henk Poort (the Dutch Phantom, who Floor credits as being a strong influencer for her going into music), The Phantom of the Opera. Yes, your mind will be blown. :) Peace!

To answer your question why everyone can sing this song: It was the winning song of the Eurovision Songcontest in 2012. This songcontest is held once a year and almost all European countries and even Australia participate in it. Over 200 million people (!) watch it live. So I guess almost everyone in Europe and Australia know this song.

Eurovision Song Contest is a distinct European phenomenon (with the one exception that since a few years Australia has joined in as well) and was started in the years after the Second World War to bring together the nations that had been on opposite sides during that war. Over the years the number of competing countries has become bigger and bigger (especially after the Iron Curtain came down and countries that were once under the influence of the Soviet Union joined in). It is a song contest in which every country sends in a representative with a newly written song especially for the occasion and then they compete against each other. Every country gets to have a vote determined by a jury (usually made up of music industry professionals) and this vote is 50% of the result, the other 50% determined by televoting i.e. the whole of Europe can vote for their favourite song (except for the song from your own country). It is bit of an odd event in that music shouldn't be a competition and over the years it has had its fair share of ups and downs. Nowadays the event is stretched out over almost a whole week with two semi finals during the week (all broadcast live) and then the grand final on Saturday evening. Like with any event it has it share of lovers and haters and since the 70s / 80s it has also gained quite a big following in the LGBTQetc. community because there is always a certain percentage of entries which are really the campiest thing you will ever see. Also musically, because it reaches such a vast audience (I think more people watch it then the Superbowl), it isn't the most trendy music event and sometimes musically it is a few years behind the curve but usually the song that eventually wins is a deserved winner. For years my country The Netherlands also had a tendency to send it either really campy songs or performers and as such the level interest in the event started to really wane considerably. But then they decided to stop having a National Contest to decide who was going to enter and instead set up a selection committee and they started on a long term strategy and get respected Dutch artists to take part. It all started with Anouk and her orchestral ballad Birds which got us qualified for the final again in quite a few years. Then in 2014 we almost won with The Common Linnets (a duo consisting of Ilse DeLange and Waylon) and their country-ish song Calm After The Storm. Both of them superbly written songs IMHO. We kept sending quality performers and songs to the Contest in the next few years but then came 2019 when we sent a rather unknown young singer/songwriter called Duncan Laurence to the ESC with his song Arcade. Even for us Dutch people he was quite unknown (he did take part in a season of The Voice) but he is someone who has a mentor that is very very well known here, Ilse DeLange. Yes, one half of The Common Linnets (which was a project she initiated but she was already hugely succesfull here, think stadium level, in the Netherlands). He had this amazing song and she had the experience of almost having won the ESC and really having a vision of how to 'crack the code' and bring the ESC to the Netherlands (the winner gets to organise the next year's contest) for the first time since 1975 (!!). 1. Just think of how badly the us music industry has been screwing us out of great music for some long. Reaction channels are one cure for that. I don't listen to radio anymore for that reason. KZbin, music groups (Facebook, discord, etc) , spotify etc presents music I never hear on commercial radio. I never looked back.

BTW, Answer to your last question, 1.Yes more Beste Zangers, especially if u haven't done Que Sa Siente by Floor. 2.Original singer is Swedish Loreen singing Euphoria in Eurovision contest. And there have been many artists that have tried to cover and do justice to original, but in my opinion only Original Loreen live performance where Loreen dances and moves like crazy person, and this Floor's versions are only ones u ever need to hear about.

Well, I see a lot of peeps have already told you about Eurovision. Now before you go down that rabbit hole, do make a playlist for those reactions as you will be flooded by viewers. Why you ask, because Eurovision has over 600 mil viewers worldwide. And yeah there are great performances to discover if you decide to go on a Eurovision journey (and as the competition exists since 1956, man what a journey it will be). Do keep in mind that all songs in Eurovision are originals, so other versions you may have heard before are covers. As you have reacted to them before know that O'G3ne participated in 2017 with Light and Shadows. Other artists you may know who have competed are Julio Iglesias, ABBA, Celine Dion, T.a.T.u., Bjørk, Ilse de Lange (as a duo with Waylon called The Common Linnets) and Glennis Grace.
