In Belgium they also spoke about the Arteta interview and offcourse it is very deeply rooted to never swap your GK in the Middle of the game, but rationally it's also not that strange. With the Striker you can start one to make goals, but you change him when you scored two goals and the other team Starts to play more aggressively and Starts to take risks. So you put a Faster Striker on to be able to counter Faster. With the GK you can have the same. You can start the game with a GK with better feet and other features he's better in, but when you are winning you can mabey need a GK with other specialties like beeing stronger in the air and on his line. It is even better with the fact you have more changes then in the past. Rationnaly it's not so strange for a top team who can afford it. I think if Pep would state the same, People could think it's genius Again and that he's revolutioning the game. You can play out your players on their qualities diepending on the game. But, on the other hand their is this fot ever living narrative that you can NEVER change the keeper for thé confindence of the GK. But with GKs with different strong Points and they are aware of it and with good communication, i don't think it's that crazy.

The Jackson situation is so similar to Nunez. People mock them both for not scoring enough and missing easy chances. Both of them are good players. People need to let them breathe and stop judging

The difference is that Nunez wasn’t this bad and wasn’t playing in this bad of a team. Jackson might never improve simply because he’ll be trapped by the rest of his teammates also having stinkers as well. Chelsea fans seem to have forgotten that he was signed off a small hot streak comparable to Almiron’s at the start of last season. Chelsea have a proven track record of ruining strikers going back 20 years. At least with Nunez Liverpool weren’t trash so it was just up to him.

Excellent discussion, thanks. I think one of the problems with Tonali for me, as well as Hall and Livramento, is the opportunity cost. We had been looking at Madison and Diaby for ages and never bought them, then also Szoboszlai and again didn't buy him. All those players have done exceptionally well. Don't get me wrong I do rate our signings but the two fullbacks are for the future and except for the preseason training and the Aston Villa game, Tonali has only had one training session with the squad because of international duties and injury. So the substitutions were sort of forced on Howe. However, both affected the games dramatically and show the merits of Tonali. The AC Milan game was about heavy emotion and not being fully fit in very difficult playing conditions.

I think you missed some points about Tonali. It’s very clear that both player and Howe are still working out how to get the best out of him and Bruno together. He showed against Villa how good he can be and essentially ran the game and controlled the midfield. Then we saw some meh performances against Brighton, Liverpool and city which were tough games. I think we still were playing well for large parts of the Liverpool game and we’re undone by two counters. That’s why the result was a shock. The goals were against the run of play. Joe is 100% spot on that the midfield looks more composed and settled with Longstaff. He’s the unsung hero of the team (and was nominated as such by his team mates last season). He does a lot of running to create space and supporting Bruno with a relief option or covering him defensively. The team dropped off when he got injured last year. It’s almost no surprise to see form pick up with him back this season.

As a NUFC fan, I think Longstaff is massivly underated by a lot of fans. He would be one of the first names in my team, he is the most un selfish player on our books, Murphy is a close second in that department. I also have no problem with how TOONALI is playing, Gordon, started much worse now look at him, Bruno started from the bench for his first 6 weeks, TOONALI will come good, he has good players around him who will help him

As good as Pau Torres' passing range is, he's a massive liability defensively. Struggles against any level of physicality (Burnley, Palace goals all due to getting turned and beat for strength), doesn't cope well with high press, has next to no pace and it's no coincidence that since Mings went down, most teams have attacked us down the left side and identified that as a weakness. Were it not for Martinez playing a blinder, Villa would've lost against Chelsea. Villa has no organiser or vocal leader at the back and Pau is very passive. Not saying he can't be good but as part of a back 2 there are a lot of ways to exploit him. Perhaps it's down to Emery's commitment to the high line, but it doesn't favour Pau
