This is like if Taito took the concept of Neon Night Riders from the SNES version of Turtles in Time and made an entire game out of it. Neat.

“The 3D revolution happened too early, we should have had technology stop on super scaling for a couple years and really explore and expand on it…” PREACH MY BROTHER! Super scaler games feel more thrilling and three-dimensional to me than any modern photo-realistic racer. As far as I’m concerned, graphics hit their peak when Power Drift’s roller coaster feel and furiously fast tracks came out.

"Das Ende" is the cherry on top of this incredibly experience. I don't think I've seen any media outside of germany use a german "the end". for exotic Flair maybe?

Taito is still in business...but they're owned by Square Enix now. They said something about "making new console games in the future" a few years ago, but I don't know if anything actually materialized.
@apollolux2 жыл бұрын
Someone else already mentioned it, but Square Enix currently owns Taito. For a game like Riding Fight to get an update, either as a rerelease/remaster or through a sequel, they'd have to basically get their heads out of their asses first with the way they're currently doing business.
@eternity90992 жыл бұрын
I agree, they went all in on the 3D tech way too early. A lot of games from those early 3D days did not stand the test of time at all. Yet, there are a ton of 2D games from multiple generations that still hold up great to this day.

There's one very late 1995 super scaler F1 racer from Capcom called Slipstream which really pushes the 2D tech. It seems to have been exclusive for the South American market, and oddly enough it was a Capcom game developed for Sega's System 32 arcade hardware.

Have you ever played "The Cliffhanger: Edward Randy"? It's a janky arcade game, but I loved playing the heck out of it as a kid. Being an Indiana Jones fan, it was so awesome for me to see this guy with a whip just beating the crap out of "Nazis" and their biomechanical dieselpunk machines. Hey, Matt McMuscles. I have a couple of suggested arcade titles you should play in future videos. Suggestions: Ninja Commando (Neo Geo MVS) SegaSonic the Hedgehog Virtua Cop (original) Metal Slug (original) Fighting Vipers X-Men: Children of the Atom (Arcade) Turbo OutRun Lethal Enforcers Cadillacs and Dinosaurs (Arcade) Sonic Championship (known as Sonic the Fighters in Japan) What do you think? I hope you should play any of these games.

Absolutely agreed about superscalar graphics never getting their shot. The fact that people actually *liked* the look of stuff like the original Virtua Fighter or Quake baffled me then and does to this day. We could've had an incredible 5th generation with superscalar tech. We got hints of how incredible it could have looked with games like Symphony of the Night, Valkyrie Profile, Marvel vs Capcom, etc., but it never got properly explored. 3D wasn't really ready to look good until the 6th generation, although a handful of late PS1 games at least don't look *terrible*.

Yeah, this title looks great with super scaling 2d (not all of them are good see some of the Saturn's lineup), and maybe the 3d revolution was early, but we wouldn't have had any classics as well, both styles and methods should co-exist. Think of 3d games at this era like this, they're akin to the stuff from the 70s and early 80s like commodore and Atari stuff before things advanced further for 2d graphics in the same vein with 3d progressing further with powerful machines.
