@Flopping Crappie, I know this video is old but as an engineer I would just like to help you out. So frequency yes is making the cone more narrow but the reason that it gives you better detail and a crisper image is because it's sending out more sonar pulses per second. 1 hz (hertz) is 1 pule per second. 1000 hz = 1 kilohertz khz and 1 megahertz Mhz = 1000 khz. Or 1 million hertz (10^6). So I know most fishermen may not care but the frequency is higher and the wavelength is lower which means the actual length of the sound wave itself is shorter giving you a narrower image. But better detail because you are taking more "pictures". Love the video and hope it helps you and your viewers understand better!

I'm not a crappie fisherman but I do catch and eat them from time to time. Something I noticed is I catch huge crappie cuz I'm normally bass fishing with lures much bigger than you'd use for crappie. I bet if you threw a fluke jr, a small swimbait, or a jerkbait you'd see a big quality upgrade. Anyway great video man, I learned quit a bit.

@jerrysmith1125

Many here are interpreting the side imaging incorrectly with regards to the water column. The transducer has two crystals. One records data from straight down to 90 degrees to the left, the other records data from straight down to 90 degrees to the right. Imagine tying a 40 ft string to your transducer and pulling it straight out to the left of your boat, then moving the string under your boat and pulling it straight out to the right of the boat, creating a half-circle, with your transducer being the center. Everything in this 40 ft half-circle is displayed on the screen. The shortest distance to the bottom is straight down, so you can trust the image where the bottom contour starts is directly under the boat. What you don't know is the exact location of anything suspended in the dark water column. That fish mark at 25 ft on the screen only means it is 25 ft away from the transducer. Could be 25 ft straight down, 90 degrees to the right, or anywhere in between.
@jeremylastname873
@jeremylastname873 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! That’s why we see nearby standing trees and other tall structures appearing “sideways” in the water column. BTW: higher frequency doesn’t use “less data” as stated in the video. It’s more resolute but doesn’t have as much of a range.
@FloppingCrappie
@FloppingCrappie 2 жыл бұрын
@@jeremylastname873 so if it has less range, that means it is not taking in as much of the water column as say 455khz. That's what I mean when I state 1.1mghz is taking in less data.

I really like this unit I’ve did a good deal of research and bang for the buck it’s hard to beat I do believe but I have a 14ft jon boat and mostly fishing for crappie in 20ft or less should I look at a lesser unit more affordable with regular side and down imaging instead of the UHD and one with fewer options? I like this one for sure but I may not need this much unit for Jon boat and fishing for crappie maybe you have a better suggestion for a smaller boat that works great?

I am trying to get the most from my UHD 74SV and was very confused by your statement about the fish location at around 7:50. 1st thing.. Great video.!!!!! 2nd I have a question for ya. I own the 12" echomap garmin with the lvs32 transducer and its currently installed on the boat.but am not using the regular sonar transducer.. just the livescope one.. also I have a hummingbird hellix 10 onboard with the included transducer it came with. Would you advise to also hook up the included transducer that came with the garmin.. or would you just run the Hellix and the livescope transducer? In otherwords is there any reason I should hook up the Garmin transducer included in the kit and if so would it add to the 12" echomap ultra with the livescope transducer or should I just leave it off of there since I have the hummingbird too? The next question I have for you is.. I noticed all on one screen you had your side imagine at the MHZ frequency for clarity.. but then the downscan was on 855khz or something a bit less than the side imaging. Why is that?? I was told you cant run the same frequency 2 times on the same unit.. is that why? Thank you!
@FloppingCrappie
@FloppingCrappie Жыл бұрын
To answer your first question I need to know which unit you use to find fish while idling around. If you use the humminbird to idle and use SI, then just stay with the humminbird transducer. If you use the Garmin SI/DI, then I would mount the Garmin transducer. Question 2: in this video I was using the GT54 transducer which uses 1.1mhz for sidevu, but only has 850khz capability for downvu. The gt56 transducer has both mega frequency capability for sidevu and down vu. I have since upgraded to the gt56 transducer and use the highest frequency for both sidevu and downvu.

My humminbird helix 9, which I still have, only used 455khz or 800khz. It's possible to get a fairly clear picture with 455khz, but it will not be as clear as mega imaging. SI , doesn't the distance to left and right "include" the water depth. In other words if you are in 20ft of water and set the SI at 40 ft to left and right... in effect you are only seeing 20ft to the left and right of the boat...because the beam goes 20 ft down then to the left or right another 20 ft..... 20 plus 20 ft equals 40 ft?

When fishing brush piles with a jig how do you keep from getting hung up.
@jshirks
@jshirks 3 жыл бұрын
When I'm "fishing brush piles," I'm not usually targeting fish actually down inside the brush pile (as you say, you get hung up if not using some sort of weedless jig.) The active fish are usually at the top of the school that's holding on the brush (or any piece of cover.) The depth will vary but will be clear on the electronics what depth you at least should be starting at (i.e. the 5 ft tall brush pile sits in 19 ft of water and the fish are schooling up to 10 ft.) Of course you can catch fish down inside the school and probably some monsters down in the brush (or on the bottom around it.)

Typically you are after the fish above the brush piles like Jordan said below. I just filmed a video using 2d sonar (it will upload tomorrow morning) where my boat is on top of a brush pile (20ft deep) and I can watch my jig on 2d sonar fall to the fish. If have the boat directly over the top of the brush isn't an option, casting your jig over the brush will get you snagged from time to time. I'd would just try an count down the jig until you start to feel it hitting brush (as your reeling it in).

It's the yellow area that is side imaging and you did not explain that at all. Please explain your thought process about this. Side imaging is about shadows etc, wth xD You are misleading people into thinking the black area is interesting. But you should ignore the black area most of the time if you are using multiview so that you can watch sideview and downview.
