I'm growing 4 varieties of hops (Cascade, Centennial, Mt Hood and Nugget). To keep track of each variety I planted them in alphabetical order.

Where do you order Hop seeds from? I’m having a hard time finding a place to buy Hop seeds for home brewing. Particularly Mosaic, Galaxy and Statra seeds.
@odimarbatista39763 ай бұрын
@@Jason-th3nx those are all proprietary varieties. You would have to pay a hefty royalty to be able to grow those varieties. It’s not for the backyard grower. You need a commercial operation to, one; be able to afford it. Two; be able to grow enough of it to make a profit. You can however find those varieties for sale as peletized hops.
@odimarbatista39763 ай бұрын
@@Jason-th3nx also it’s not seeds. You need rhyzomes. If you can grow a good hop from seed it’s your own variety. Give it a name and make millions… if it’s any good. Much like you are the seed of your Mom and Dad, but you’re an individual with your own traits who may have some of your parents characteristics but is not identical to them. When you get a rhyzome of a variety you can expect the exact, identical characteristics with very little variation between terroirs. Terroirs differences meaning there will be some changes on the cone of a same variety if grown in New England compared to one grown in ayakima Valley, compared to the same variety grown in Florida or in Arizona. They will have slight flavor and aroma changes.

@@Jason-th3nx If you insist in growing it from seed of a proprietary variety, I probably shouldn’t tell you, (this tip/advice could be worth a lot to someone who knows what they’re doing) but order bulk loose cones and you may find a few seeds on the bottom. They look like cannabis seeds, as hops and cannabis are… cousins basically. Again, whatever grows from those seeds won’t be the exact same variety and may carry some characteristics, but will be an unique variety that, I’m not sure of the exact statistics and odds that it will be a good variety as I’m not a mathematician, I just know how to grow good, dank hops, but it will be decent enough for a wet brew. If you can brew good beer out of it you can then invite your Uncle, Aunt and your cousins over for a beer and explain to them how you guys are like hops and cannabis. 😂😂

My hops shot up 10 feet. And then another 8! but they had to start turning downward cause didn't anticipate this much growth this year. Big ol rainstorm and my jute and hops collapsed.. depression. got em back upish hoping the do good still.

I could only get cascade and centennial to produce last year. My EKG and Sazz just grew vines and 2 or 3 cones. Cheers 😀 👍 🍻

Got mine in the ground late last (mid June) season. Expecting only vegetative growth, I was pleasantly surprised with about a half pound out of each species (three plants each, chinook, comet and ctz). I ran some 1/4 inch irrigation and used one of the ports on the hose timer I got for the hanging baskets which worked great! Hope you get lots of yield this year…can’t wait to see what you, and I for that matter, brew with the backyard hops!

You can get some shade netting to help lessen the impact of the sun so that your hop leaves dont get sun burned

SIX plants? My goodness you are going to have so many hop cones once they have grown a bit. I can barely use all the cones my two plants produce. On the other hand you just got yourself a giant new brewing system so your throughput is much higher than mine. Anyway, great video. Enjoy the homegrown hops :)

Great video, Sarah! Hops should grow well in Southern California but “the Internet” says that they should not be in full sun if daytime temps exceed mid-70’s. You might want to put up a shade structure to prevent the leaves from burning. I had a neighbor who planted them as ornamentals in the Colorado mountains above 8,000 feet! They die back to the ground and then shot up in the spring. I am tempted to try growing them in the shade in the Arizona desert, wish me luck!

Fortunately they’re close enough to the garage they’re shaded when the sun is at its peak and I’ve got tomatoes in the ground in front of them that should give a good amount of shade once they’re full grown (my other tomato’s are already 4ft high!!)

I was a little concerned you haveing the hops in the sun in plastic bags, I was afraid you would have roast hops. I planted my hops 30 plus years ago. They had to come from America to Canada where I live . What a hasal F.D.A., Canada agreculture, permits Got them and in the ground. Half survived. I have had home grow hops ever since I have shared what I have to others to start their own hop garden. Best of luck, I think they will do great. You are a very hard worker.

Question 🙋♂️ 1 what is “neem oil” (not sure the spelling) if I was to buy it in Australia? 2 what’s the best climate for hops? I live in Brisbane Australia and have been told they won’t grow in my climate 😞

They grow like weeds, just keep them watered and you will be golden. My cashmere are already almost to the top of the house, they seem to grow about a foot a day.

You mentioned organic. Have you ever made 100% organic beer? Hops, grain, and yeast? I would love to hear about this. My wife really wants me to brew 100% organic, but it’s hard. Perhaps you could make a video on this? Even if it’s a SMASH….. Love your videos. Jeremy, Waterville, WA
