True for me as well. I can't decide if it's a good thing or a bad thing, but embracing it has helped. Chaotic people may not be the best at planning ahead, but at least we are used to improvising and can roll with the punches when life throws surprises at us.

I've never heard Florence sound so reserved in terms of her vocal performance. The minimal production really complements this. Usually, as we all know, Florence can belt and her songs are grandiose to coincide with her elegant bravado, but here is a nice change. It shows how vulnerable and emotional you can make a song just by holding it back a little; without going all out. I like this, needless to say.

Matthrick O Well said! Stevie Nicks is a Goddes of both music and lyrics and she's a trully artistic natural performer! Personally I don't find Florence to be anywhere near Stevie's talent. It's just my oppinion. She does have some strong lyrics though, but it seems to me that she's pushing herself way too hard in her desire to express the things she has in mind and thus her art becomes forced and a little more unnatural.

Literally only just realised that this song is about the massive storm st Jude in 2013. Explains the lyrics ' she came to give her blessing whilst causing devastation' and 'we lay in bed whilst she whipped around us'. Also the video seems to be in the aftermath of a disaster ( why Florence is soaking wet), maybe it's because the storm is like the storm that's going on inside her and in her relationships, and that's why she's the only one that's wet. I don't know, I'm having late night deep thoughts haha everyone probably already figured this out months ago.

I never understood people who want their favorite artists to stay the same. You want eclectic earthy fairy goddess, go listen to Lungs again. You want huge grand vocals and orchestration, go listen to Ceremonials again. She's changed. She's evolved. Those other albums will always be there if you want those sounds. Let her create a new sound for people who want something else. You certainly don't have to like the new sounds, but don't complain about someone wanting to change and evolve rather than stay the same.

The part when the guy asks her if she's lost is SO powerful. It's like when you're drifting and hoping for someone to save you but when someone finally does come along and reaches out their hand to you..you don't take it.. hmm Also the part before that with the guy... It's like when you have someone that cares about you and wants to help but you feel too weak to interact...you feel too overwhelmed to talk...to handle a relationship and it hurts them and you. She collapses at the end...that could represent when you feel so overwhelmed and exhausted to the point that you collapse. ...This whole music video is a masterpiece 🌟

Anyone analyzing the symbolism in here? I'm having a hard time making a whole interpretation of it.. But I think the men carrying rocks refer to Sisyphus, the king who was condemned to carry a boulder up a hill only to watch it roll back down again and repeat this forever, symbolizing her relationship going nowhere. 'Another conversation with no destination. Another battle never won.'
@SketchyDrew1239 жыл бұрын
Mack Meels it also represents the grief of watching all the hard work you tried to contribute to a relationship and the need to move on, therefore the old man asking "why are you travelling alone?" Because, she had to. She had to move on because there was just destruction all over her and she had to get out.

My relationship with Florence is currently in that thriving part where everything the person says, does, sings or plays transports you to heaven immediately and the symphonies of seraphs are simply an echo of the lover's voice so I can't judge any of her work objectively due to the fact that i scream a bit and get overwhelmed the second I notice there's a new songs AND the video before i even listen.. wow.. wouldn't trade spots with a sane and reserved pair of ears in a million years

Ok, i don't know if it makes sense but this is what i see: this is after what happened in "What Kind of Man". She's hurt. She's lost. She had been in this bad relationship for so long that she kind of lost herself. And even tho it was an abusive relationship, she's still scared to do something ("oh, St. Jude, somehow she knew, and she came to give her blessing, while causing devastation") but she has nothing else to lose so she just keep on going ("each side is a loser, so who cares who fire the gun?"), knowing anything will be better than the poison her last lover used to put on her. And the whole process is devastating ("and even thought I’m grieving i’m trying to find the meaning") but it's necessary for her to grow and be happy.

In each video off of the new album, Florence reaches out to touch the lips of another--herself in "How Big How Blue How Wonderful" and her partner in "St. Jude" and "What Kind of Man"--and then brings that touch to her own lips. It such a simple gesture however it invokes so much passion and pain, I would love to know what it symbolizes for her. What does everyone else think this might mean, in that it is repeated throughout the works? Amazing works of art, I love music that inspires so much! Thank you Florence.

Pure brilliance. From the hauntingly calm essence of her voice to the video full of symbolism. St Jude, the European storm, served as the patron saint of hope and lost causes, because through destroying the relationship which was a lost cause, the storm was able to deliver her hope and peace to move onto a better place. "She came to give her blessing while causing devastation," shows that the storm that broke the relationship was truly the blessing in disguise that solved the impossible cause. Truly beautiful.

This song sounds like that one moment when things change to become a gentle healing of ones soul, when you know yourself and you know everything will be alright at the end of a dark journey.

I've always love this song, but came back to it because I'm praying to St. Jude for a friend who is very ill. Neither of us are religious in the traditional sense but we both love Florence

Late night thoughts: Every time I hear this song it literally gives me chills. My interpretation of the song whether it’s romantically or not just a relationship where once was love, or maybe even the idea of love, ended. Not because love isn’t there or went away it’s just personal battles the individuals are going through so they must separate. Lose each other to find who they are as individuals. Seeing it from a personal belief: Although it hurts just letting loss reveal what’s meant to be learned or just meant to be. Have a great day lovelies! 💕

Very minimalist and interesting! I always find her lyrics deep, compositions complex and emotional. We need more music like this...

I love HBHBHB so far because it's so natural and reserved compared to what we had from Lungs and Ceremonials, and honestly anything else she's done. It's really relaxing, and part of me wants to think that that's the whole purpose of the album. Calming, soothing, ethereal, and leading us to another realm incredibly different than what we see and hear every day.

I’ve always felt touch by this song, and I hadn’t watch the video until now. I felt completely connected to it when I see that was recorded in Yucatan, Mex. Florence’s songs are art.

Everytime I hear this song, I feel like my heart stops. It's a feeling I can't describe. Her voice sounds so magical. And the lyrics are so simple, yet they communicate a lot. Florence and The Machine is definetely one of my favorite bands. She is one of those few artists that still make nice, meaningful music. And that's something that we have to appreaciate, cause this is an uncommon thing nowadays.

I can't explain what touches me so deeply about this song, even though I struggle with my Faith the Christian/ Catholic undertones in Florences music always remind of my childhood and are comforting. I posted this on Facebook and noone understood the song. I'm glad to see here I'm among those who understand. This is one of my favs by Florence and the Machine.

Today my beloved cat was euthanized due to health problems. He lived for 11 years and passed away peacefully on may the 3rd, 2017. He was the gentlest cat who was loved by everyone who met him. He loved and accepted everyone who petted him. This song brings me tears and calmness, in a way it assures me that everything will be alright.

I think Florence really was imspired by Mexican culture, as can be seen in the WKOM and HBHBHB videos and now in this song (St. Jude - San Judas is one of the most venerated saints in Mexico). And it's so good to think that the magical landscapes of my country have inspired such a wonderful and magical woman.

Beautiful. I love this video, the song, melody, and lyrics. This is why I love florence because she makes music of significance. It fills a mythological abyss inside of me that can only speak and express itself through music like hers. She's amazing anyone who thinks otherwise needs to truly listen to her music.
