Florence + The Machine - Third Eye (Lyrics)
That original lifeline
Original lifeline
That original lifeline
Hey, look up
Don't make a shadow of yourself
Always shutting out the light
Caught in your own creation
Look up, look up
It tore you open
And oh, how much?
'Cause there's a hole where your heart lies
And I can see it with my third eye
And though my touch, it magnifies
You pull away, you don't know why
That original lifeline
Original lifeline
That original lifeline
Hey, look up
You don't have to be a ghost
Here amongst the living
You are flesh and blood
And you deserve to be loved
And you deserve what you are given
And oh, how much?
'Cause there's a hole where your heart lies
And I can see it with my third eye
And though my touch, it magnifies
You pull away, you don't know why
That original lifeline
Original lifeline
That original lifeline
Original lifeline
'Cause there's a hole where your heart lies
And I can see it with my third eye
And though my touch, it magnifies
You pull away, you don't know why
That original lifeline
Original lifeline
That original lifeline
That original lifeline
'Cause your pain is a tribute
The only thing you let hold you
Wear it now like a mantle
Always there to remind you
But your pain is a tribute
The only thing you let hold you
Wear it now like a mantle
Always there to remind you
I'm the same, I'm the same
I'm trying to change
I am the same, I'm the same
I'm trying to change
I am the same, I'm the same
I'm trying to change
I am the same, I'm the same
I'm trying to change
'Cause there's a hole where your heart lies
And I can see it with my third eye
And though my touch, it magnifies
You pull away, you don't know why

at the end where she repeats "I'm the same ,I'm the same I'm trying to change", I get lost in her words. it's like we're one, all of us are just the same trying to change and become better

Just my opinion, but Florence is saying that we all deserve happiness and finding our soulmates. No matter how much success you have in life, how great your career, how much money you have, it is meaningless without a soulmate....

The lyric touches me deeply, I feel like there's this person who I am trying to be and it seems impossible for me to accomplish because I have habits that I can't seem to shake. These habits often break me and shake me up pretty bad and cause me to self-loath. I'm just trying to change one day at a time.

Sooner or later there's gling to be these music elitists bashing recent music, saying fatm is the only real music, blablabla, in this comment chain. Annette Hasnas opinions are valid if backed with claims that make sense. "Authentic, unique, and talented" is something lots of singers have, so it's probably not specific enough. Specify something in her uniqueness that you like, then it's valid.

I listened to this song constantly last Summer whilst suffering and recovering from a severe case of Anorexia. I was an inpatient case trying to stay out of hospital. This song helped me so much to the point where if I ever met Florence Welch I would not be able to speak to her because the potency of her music is beyond words to me. Thank you so much. Your music was my food when I couldn't face another spoonful.

I know this comment is from 2 years ago but i still had to comment because it is so relatable. I was diagnosed with an eating disorder when i was 12(im 22 now) and March of 2017 i was transferred from an acute inpatient psych unit to the medical hospital where i spent 21 days with an nj tube. Florence's music helped me get through so much and gave me not only strength, but something i could relate to both while in the hospital and while trying to recover on my own. I hope you are still doing well with recovery♡

wtf same, like i relate so much to flo, like her feeling like she always ruins relationships (my friend outright told me im a shitty friend and am never gonna be able to have a romantic relationship) and also this everpresent burden of perfectionism, so her songs really go right to my heart. its propably not a coincidence my favourite songs are Hunger and Various Storms And Saints, two of her most personal songs. It really is beautiful to find someone else like you in this world. It is comforting to know that I am not alone. Discovering FaTM is the best thing that's ever happened to me, and if I ever got the honor of meeting her words could not express my gratefulness and love for her music. I found them when I was alone and lost and scared and I was really depressed and wanted my life to end, and then suddenly someone else wrote songs that made me feel "I am not alone anymore."

"You don't have to be a ghost here amongst the living. You are flesh and blood. And you deserved to be loved, and you deserve what you are given." Those lyrics right there, are why this song is my favourite on the album, because even though her songs are speaking about some pretty dark stuff, you arrive on this song, and it's like there is light at the end of the tunnel. I have loved Flo for a very long time now, and she will never cease to amaze me.

You're so right. This is also my favourite song of the album. A lot of people criticise Florence for her morbid content in her songs such as terror and pain but she completely paints her canvas of lyrics with experience. It is weaved into the fibre of each song and it is stunning. But I can't help but smile at your comment because it's exactly what I think, this song is such a happy one, it's about taking all of that terror and pain and just saying I'm here now and things are good, I also love 'Cause your pain is a tribute, the only think you let hold you, wear it now like a mantle, always there to remind you' it says remember the pain to see how far you've come, you can't ever forget completely, so take it in your strife, learn from it, change into who you really want to be

This song is the last one of the album and something that I reconezied about HBHBHB is how much it talks about the pain in make mistakes and recover from it. Do you remeber that speach in the beguining of the "Delilah" video? "... people are falible beings, they make mistakes. They have to be excused from this mistakes, and alow to continue on their quest for a better life...". He's talking about this song, how sometimes we get hurt but we have fell tha pain, forgive ourselfs about this feeling, till we recover, till we find that "faith" that we misplaced in our soul. Life is a line where we make mistakes after mistakes and learn more and more, one after another. Lifeline is telling us that "don't blame yourself about feeling hurt, dont be ashame of it". Society tells us that is bad to fell hurt, they blame us for it. Don't be ashemd, don't close yourself in pain, don't became a ghost becase of it. Scream out loud that u're in pain. You don't have to keep it to yourself. Sorry for the long text, is just that I fell so much empowered by this song

The ending is a perfect end to the odessy. She repeats the words " im the same, im the same im tryna change" and with each repeat her tone actually does change and gets more confident and powerful, and finally on the last repeat she pauses, and the holds the note on the last "change". Essentially her singing mirrors her lyrics of wanting to change.

The fact she sings this, as the last song of The Odyssey, is so incredibly powerful leading up to High as Hope. She did change, she did get better, and she wants to inspire people that the struggles we face don't have to negatively impact our lives. I saw her live at the Hollywood Bowl and her raw energy is just something I can never truly describe. She took all the pain she has suffered since Lungs, learned from it, and has transformed into someone who is not perfect but has come to accept that she deserves happiness like we all do. Bravo Florence Welch. Bravo....

KitsuneYu to be an artist is to be introverted to be a performer is to be extroverted. As someone who is both she must have both characteristics. Most people favor the other heavily but the best musicians tread that line carefully. someone like Prince is a phenomenal example as he was incredibly flamboyant and in your face yet very private about his own personal life which makes him mysterious as well.

You can not love and forgive others until you love and forgive yourself". So, the storm inside us. And the fact that all what around us depends on our perception of it. That is how we relate to it.

For those who wonder where's chapter 7, they renamed the videos as follow: What kind of man - Chapter 1 How big how blue how beautiful - Chapter 2 St. Jude - Chapter 3 Ship to wreck - Chapter 4 Queen of peace & Long and Lost - Chapters 5 &6 Delilah - Chapter 8 Third eye - Chapter 9 The videos are numbered as in the film. Which rises the questions, are we getting a Mother video (chapter 7)? Are we getting a Various storms & saints (this is less likely, but personal favorite so one can only dream). Florence, I love you. You are the best. You are inspirational in your way to each of the people who are fond of you. Greetings from Mexico

It's so different how much weight this song carries in The Odyssey compared to the album. That ending feels a lot more heartbreaking and immediate than the song does on the album. The album tells the same story, I think, but it does it in a more roundabout way - The Odyssey feels a lot more personal, just because of the way the songs are arranged (also because of her performances, but a lot of it is where the songs are in relation to one another). All the same, I do really like the way the songs are arranged on the album - I'm just glad she wasn't afraid to mix the order up for the film.

Stephanie Davis Yeah it makes me really sad because her music is so amazing and she is just an amazing person in general. And at award shows like the Grammy's and such she is ALWAYS snitched by other artists like Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift.

I can explain with words what this era has made me feel. We've been through a lot. The visuals, the music, the atmosphere, the energy... Everything about the album is really powerful, and so are all the meanings behind. How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful has become one of the biggest and greatest artistic experiences of my entire life. Thank you, Florence xx

I think what I love the most out of this project, is that even after the beautiful journey of self discovery and self love, after remembering and living through some of the most painful things in life, she recognizes the importance of her own self discovery and goes back out into the world and puts the good she has found and the good she wants to see back into the world. And it's as important for her as a person and an artist to give that energy as it is for us, the viewers and the fans and the witches and christians and muslims and athiests and everyone to receive that love and energy from others, especially through art and music. But I'm going down waaaay to far my rabbit hole so i digress.

I am in a moment when I find myself overcome with my old relationship, and today I remember that this whole album served as a great support during the most difficult moments. The most beautiful thing is that this song today serves as a reminder of everything that I went through, who I once one day in my past and that in order to live I need to keep walking towards the best version of myself (i strongly feel this principally in the last part when she repeats "I'm the same. I'm the same. I'm trying to change"). That, despite being overcome, I know that all my demons from the past were once so real and painful for me, and that all this difficult phase was necessary for today to be here, better and more mature. I am so grateful for this art that Florence offered to the world. I'm sure that this whole odyssey was a balm for people who once found themselves in that same dark place in their lives. For the people who arrived here and find themselves in a difficult situation: I hope that Odyssey will also warm your hearts in the same way that it happened to me one day. Believe me, you will get over it and all of this will one day become just memories, and all of you will be able to be grateful for that.

LYRICS: That original lifeline Original lifeline That original lifeline Hey, look up Don't make a shadow of yourself Always shutting out the light Caught in your own creation Look up, look up It tore you open And oh, how much? Cause there's a hole where your heart lies And I see can it with my third eye And though my touch, it magnifies You pull away, you don't know why That original lifeline Original lifeline That original lifeline Hey, look up You don't have to be a ghost Hidden amongst the living You are flesh and blood And you deserve to be loved And you deserve what you are given And oh, how much? Cause there's a hole where your heart lies And I see can it with my third eye And though my touch, it magnifies You pull away, you don't know why That original lifeline Original lifeline That original lifeline Original lifeline Cause there's a hole where your heart lies And I see can it with my third eye And though my touch, it magnifies You pull away, you don't know why That original lifeline Original lifeline That original lifeline Cause your pain is a tribute The only thing you let hold you Well now I'm a memento Always there to remind you But your pain is a tribute The only thing you let hold you Well now I'm a memento Always there to remind you I'm the same, I'm the same I'm try'na change I'm the same, I'm the same I'm try'na change I'm the same, I'm the same I'm try'na change I'm the same, I'm the same I'm try'na change Cause there's a hole where your heart lies And I see can it with my third eye And though my touch, it magnifies You pull away, you don't know why That original lifeline Original lifeline That original lifeline I'm the same, I'm the same I'm try'na change

I took my first boyfriend; Micheal, to his first concert. He was older i think by 4/5 years. We went to your concert in TORONTO. You were AMAZING. I've never seen so much energy and fearlessness from a performer. I believe it was 2012? The last year of my high school experience. Anyway, You ran out into the crowd to feel everyone's energy n spirits / where we are [nwo] [now] / the state of the world. I was standing in the back chairs almost in the fields but I felt like I was first row. Miss you and your stuff dearly. - Sarah

My heart is so full, I don't even have language to express how this makes me feel. I'm no poet like Florence is, but I need to put this out there. My soul is somehow much heavier but in a good way? I feel her music physically - it's like a force of nature or some transcendental element or something. I've never had this experience with any other music, only hers. She's truly something special, and that doesn't even begin to cover how I feel, I really can't accurately put it into words. But I'm sure you all understand.

Damn👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾when she starts to say "I'm the same,I'm the same,I'm trying to change" she starts off weak, kinda quiet. Then the closer she gets to the crowd the louder she is,the stronger. At some point the voices almost drown her out, until she finally let's go. Then the voices work in harmony with her, while she leads them. So symbolic.
