Great info. We found it more expensive to live in Florida vs Delaware. Everything you said was spot on. But I think the sunshine ☀️ palm trees 🌴 beaches and Disney are worth every penny.

I agree, you guys are paying a higher price for most things because you live in a touristy area. We are planning to move an hour north of Orlando and have visited the area. The prices for utilities are not as high as they are where we live in Michigan The cost to purchase a home is pretty similar to our state. Of course it's all about location, location, location.

Here in Kennebunk, Maine, the gas prices are 2.69 a gallon today. Rent, about the same as Florida. Everything in Florida seems to be on par with Maine. I live in a very tourists area ( Beach ) and a fairly wealthy area, but having said that, going Waaaay up Maine is significantly cheaper. I have a 12 yr old son and we go to Florida ( Disney ) about 3 times a year and we LOVE Florida, and hopefully we will be moving down sooner than later! Thanx for your videos! I adore your family!

FL is NOT as affordable as some say. First off, my auto insurance went from $217 every six months to $583 for every six months. Secondly, good luck finding a job paying more than $9-13 per hr .... the way I look at it is everything other than housing costs the same as up north but you have to work 2-3 times longer to have the same as up north. Nothing for people to work 2-4 jobs here to get by. Just do your homework before you come here.

Great video. It’s nice to hear the real comparisons from a family that is actually experiencing it. I think this goes to show that you do pay a premium to be close to “attractions.” We grew up in a small country area about 25 miles from Nashville. Now that Nashville is having such massive growth people are migrating to our area-causing property values and rent to go through the roof. We’ve recently been purging and moved even further out to save up more for our Florida relocation. While it is cheaper, we have to drive about an hour to get to anything “fun.” So, this is helping us determine a balance between budget/convenience and need/want before we move again.

As a Florida local, prices were super cheap until everyone starting moving in and pricing us out. I first moved to Florida 8 years ago and my rent was $500. I was living decently on $15 an hour as a single with no dependents. That is no longer possible and the prices are insane compared to the wages. I live in Sarasota county and rent averages $2k for a one or two bedroom, which is nothing compared to the Tampa and Miami area. If you move to Florida please respect the locals. We are being priced out of the housing market too with the mass amount of people moving here; two years ago I could have purchased a house for 150k easily that now is selling 300k+. It may seem low cost compared to other states but the wages here are a lot lower compared to up north.

Another MAJOR consideration is salary. Salary levels in Florida are SIGNIFICANTLY lower than many other areas of the US (especially west coast and NE Atlantic metropolitan areas). So make sure you have scouted out the job opportunities BEFORE you decide to move to the Sunshine state (there is the advantage of no Florida state income taxes, you failed to mention, which is a plus). The best way to relocate, is to make your higher metropolitan salaries then relocate to Florida when you retire, like I did. Best of both worlds!

For us going from Northern NY to SC - Electric - NY - $50 to $150/mth highest in winter (we didn't have AC and we heated with propane); SC - $70 to $175/mth highest in summer (we now heat with natural Gas); Water - NY - was free - we had a well, lol; SC - $65/mth; Rent for a 2 bed apt - NY $1100; SC - $1600; i live near Charleston and it is expensive. Car insurance - $125/mth 2 vehicles full coverage; I will say drivers license was a HUGE difference for us - NY was $200 for 8 years and here in SC was $35. Food we spend about $200 a week in NY and in SC. Thanks for sharing your experience. Always neat to compare! OH and the school thing - a fee?? that is crazy to me. i grew up in VA and lived in NY and have never heard of such a thing. Didn't have it in VA, NY or SC. Florida With Five its definitely something people should think of. Here in SC we have our County house tax plus HOA plus another fee to maintain the flowers along the main road. The small fee is $75 a year but it’s another added expense that you have to think about. Plus the termite bond we have to keep which is $300 a year. The house tax in NY was $2500/yr for $120k house with 2 acres of land. Down here in SC have $300k with not even 0.25acre for $1500. I have noticed FL house taxes are like NY plus the added HOA fee. I also recently found another realtor youtuber down in Tampa that has mentioned another fee that is for infrastructure. Which is making me think SC may be the better deal with the cheaper taxes and I can visit FL. I’m only 3 hours from Jacksonville.

Compared to PA and MD it is cheaper. Also I moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania and in PA and dallastown you get a school tags and mine is almost $9000 a year even though the houses were cheaper they get you everywhere else in Pennsylvania

I’m happy that school and daycare are cheaper in Florida. I heard College is cheaper too. Are sports cheaper? Do the schools and parks and recreation have all the sports or do you have to pay for Little League or a soccer club or do they have both options?

lived in florida 10 years.....left....still miss it sometime....PROS: weather, Churches, beaches, coasts, big cities (Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville) then a few miles down the road nice and rural...Long drives with car to cruise, good restaurants-lots to choose from, great wildlife - gators, manatees, panthers, etc..cool to see, Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, etc...Daytona 500, car shows, Sports teams, Football, College and Pro Football, Spring Training, Nightlife, no snow, .............CONS: Lower wages, lack of quality healthcare and doctors, southern inefficiency, bad attitudes from southerners and Floridians, Puerto Rican gangs, emphasis on Spanish language and culture, Expensive housing, Hurricanes, insects, bugs, small lizards running around, a feeling of "NO CULTURE", Lots of wealthy, elderly people, and snowbirds that are arrogant, no change of seasons, that state just gets on your nerves after awhile...

A lot of it depends on what you were looking for, and what kind of jobs you will have. Out of those pics, I would definitely say Sarasota if you have children. The school system there is rated second in the state!

Florida expenses slightly higher than other states but much lower than CA, NY, from what I've heard even TX. The main thing you have to keep in mind when talking expenses is that FL has NO STATE INCOME TAX!! And that is huge. I was getting buried in NC state income tax so good riddance to that...and the ice storms! lol

I want to move to Florida from Chicago area I’m getting sick of livening here in Illinois lol the taxes the politics all there bs. I want to move to the west coast area it just sucks for my job I think it’s like a $12 dollar an hour pay cut minimum if I’m lucky but then again property taxes are cheaper for an average home and I don’t think state taxes come out of your checks. At least there’s now snow we’ll most of the time 😎

Wow I can't believe the cost of water! We live on Long Island and we pay literally $65 every 3 months and have 9 people living in our home currently. I'm curious to know if all the houses have electric heat or do some also use gas or propane? How often do you even use your heat a year?
@midlife_minimalist
@midlife_minimalist 3 жыл бұрын
I’m in NE FL but have also lived in Tampa. Electric for heat (heat pumps which are very efficient here). I ran my heat a good bit this year as it’s been one of the coldest winters since I moved here 20 years ago. How much you need heat will depend on what part of FL. What they said about needing heat and a/c on same day can be true. I have propane for hot water, cooktop, fireplace which is quite pricey. IOther places nearby have natural gas for those items and I had natural gas for those in Tampa but still electric for heat. I call water here liquid gold. I can keep mine around $50 -$60 a month for one person if I don’t run sprinkler. Run the sprinkler twice a week and it jumps to $150. You have to train your grass not to need supplemental water - the more you water it, the shallower the roots and the more you have to water it. I only run mine if the grass is looking dry.

We have fees. Matter of fact, there was a proposal about taxing in the district you live in. It went through twice and never won the votes of the people. When I was a child and lived in Fl, my mom never had to buy school supplies. Walked in the door, they gave us a backpack and the items we needed. In Al, it is so different. We have 4 kids in public school. That's about 1k, or close to, with all 4 kids plus all the fees. Some classes cost $40 each semester. (Jessica Hawkins)

Let me just give you guys an update on rents TODAY. 2022. I have to move because my landlord who lives up north decided he wasn't going to renew my lease because rents here have increased anywhere from 30%-50% in the past few months and it's only going to get worse before it gets better. So NOW he's going to remodel it and then probably rent it out for over double what I'm paying. Offered to buy it because its cheaper to own than rent anymore , and he refused. He's going to ride that money train. The prick wouldn't even extend my lease for one more month so I could find a place and move 7years of stuff out by myself!! A same size unit as the one I live in (for the time being), that needed a total remodel, and I mean a complete gut job, just sold for $270,000!!! Over a quarter of a million dollars and not FIVE years ago was valued under $95,000 (or even less because of gut job needed). Trust me even with a remodel, not worth a quarter of a mil. Another unit same size as mine (2br/2ba), is now renting for $2200.00 a month!! My rent right now is at $1000.00. So they are now charging over double rent in just less than a year since the market has gotten out of control. This is now basically the going rate for a 2br. I just saw a ROOM for rent going for over a thousand dollars....for a ROOM!! Basically price gouging buyers and renters to death. This ain't NY, yet NY rents are now here., Anyway, sadly I must leave my home of 30 years in beautiful Pinellas County and move up north to Tallahassee, where at least you can still by property for under a 100k. I am not happy about it, but I have no choice, I live alone and am past the age for roommates. And this lovely couple are right, THE BILLS, my water as a single person is $95-110 a month and I am VERY , VERY conservative with water. God forbid I wash my car or water my plants!! Electric in the summer here just for me is around $190-215 per month. But I can't take the heat and humidity so those are the months I splurge and keep it at 70 degrees or get very irritated by the heat. Gas went up, food when you can find it has almost doubled in some places as well. And traffic is insane here because they STILL have not implemented any viable or reasonable alternative modes of transportation to travel, such as trains, or the monorail that we voted on to go between Tampa and Orlando like 15 yrs a go now!! So sorry to vent, I'm just very sad to leave all of my friends, all the places I go, the walks by the water, Busch Gardens, Universal, Buc's games, IKEA, and so much more. I will have no friends up in Tally and it will be very hard for me. I cry everyday because I will miss my home so very much. So PLEASE, before you make the decision to move to our wonderful state, Do Your Homework and know the reality of what it's going to cost you. So many are moving down here only to find lack of housing, lack of programs for children with disabilities, and just ultimately being disillusioned when they discover it's financially more than they bargained for. It's still an amazing place to live, but if you didn't get in the game earlier and you don't have millions, well, it is still a very nice place to visit. BTW, shout out to FWF, I went tubing down the Apple River in WI years ago and it was a blast! Great time and met some very nice people who welcomed me and some of my MN friends like we were family! WI people are some of the friendliest people I have ever met!! I'm glad you have been able to make a home here in FL. You are in a very entertaining city that's for sure!! So much to do there! Best of luck to you and your family!
