Speaking of dangers, the thing keeping me from doing this is fear of sharks and gators. I'm in Texas, so not worried about crocs, but you'd have that to be worried about too right?

i kayak with them all the time in FL. theyre scared of people super timid animals. UNLESS you have a fish then they might come up if theyre fed by people which is illegal.

There is very little for a kayaker to fear in the way of 'gators and sharks. I am aware of only two instances of allligator attacks on a kayak and, in both cases, it was a female guarding her nest/brood and the no one was actually injured. As for crocs, the American variety are not as aggressive as the infamous Australian salties, they are few in number, and I've never heard of any kayak being attacked by one. Great White sharks and Tiger sharks have been documented to attack kayaks, as far as I know these the only shark species known to do so* unprovoked*. I say *unprovoked* because I don't think anyone is certain about why these attacks happened. These two species are only of concern if you are kayaking in waters where they are commonly found. The kind of fishing shown in this video doesn't take place where you'd be likely to encounter either species. As Travis said above, if you're not towing around a bait basket or a stringer full of fish, then alligators and sharks, in general, want nothing to do with you.
