Love these videos. I used to be a boat captain in Islamorada back in the early 1990's. I haven't been back down in probably 15 years. However, I do have a few spots for you to try. I loved Big Pine Shoal. Pretty sure you can get to it by Kayak. Caught lots of large yellowtail snapper trolling there, back in the day.

Great video, Elias. I may be wrong, but the ones you called Bar Jacks I think are called Skip Jacks, but I could be wrong. Just recently subscribed for your Florida Keys episodes. Those Mangrove Snappers, Mutton’s Snappers, Yellowtail Snappers and Yellow Jacks are some of the best table fare! Looks like you got some good eating there this winter!

I love that you are doing all this fishing with artificials. All the locals in the Keys seem to fish exclusively with bait. When I asked about artificials, they weren't sure if a fish would even look at them. Gives me hope to keep trying (if I ever get back there)
@EliasVFishing
@EliasVFishing Ай бұрын
Bait will out fish artificial 5 to 1….seen it first hand many many times. But on a kayak live bait is more work than it’s worth. On a boat I wouldn’t touch these googan techniques 😂

We just caught one today, I didn't know any jacks were good but someone on the bridge said "oh, don't throw that back" it was a yellow jack. It was big enough to feed 3 of us for dinner, really delicious. Didn't try it as sushi.

Funny, we just came home from fishing that part of 7 mile bridge, (fishing bridge) I think I may have seen your kayak out there today. We caught dinner but WAY too many small fish ate up our live shrimp. At the end of the day we wound up with one yellow jack that we ate for dinner and a few decent sized grunts. All the mangroves were under 10", hard to believe we couldn't catch at least a few with 3 dozen live shrimp. Never used lures, always live bait with egg sinkers or jig heads so this video is really interesting.
@EliasVFishing
@EliasVFishing Ай бұрын
I think chunks are the way to go over live shrimp there. Bait is far superior to lures in the keys.
@robwasnj
@robwasnj Ай бұрын
@@EliasVFishing I believe you're right with chunks being the way to go, going to try some ballyhoo. I did cut up some grunt but seems it just caught more grunts and the snappers only liked the shrimp. Never saw someone catch mangroves like you did here on soft plastics, I'm amazed and impressed at your skills!

Those Shore Skids look fire. I wonder how they would do from a Jetty? We have alot of fishing that like to smash jigs but they are tight to jetty rocks that are the size of Jeeps and snaggy as hell.

Its fun catching all these different species dinks all along the bridge systems in the Keys. I have done it for years and it never gets old! Even though they aren’t monsters its still fun catching all the different species. And every now and then you will hook up with a really big fish.😎 Throw a big top water popper or a big plug and you will be surprised! They are out there.😎
