I definitely agree with commenter that wrote about adding ventilation holes - drilling several large bore holes with a drill ( one at least large enough for one's finger to go through and lift the pillow up to allow air in ) at the edges of the pillow support is much easier than adding a childproof lock. Alternatively you can make larger spacing where the pillow support is meeting the shelves. Also, allowing air circulation helps with keeping away mold and bad smells. Better safe than sorry, for her sake and any kid that will be visiting. Nobody expected the tragedy when it struck them, we've had several suffocations just this year including two in store-sold furniture - my colleague is a safety guideline supervisor and if not for him I'd never believe the ingenuity of kids.
@portobeIIa3 ай бұрын
On a less important note, ventilation holes also allow you to store /books/ in there since humidity and air will flow through and not get mold in there. Just a good idea all around

One of my old bookshelves started sagging, and eventually cracked right in the middle of a shelf, despite being at least 1inch thick solid wood. The ends of the shelves had decent support, but the there wasn’t anything supporting the middle.

Hi that's gorgeous! And something your child will be forever grateful for (I know, because my parents did something similar). I see a lot of people have been having the same thought about ventilation incase Little One goes exploring. One thing my dad did was put little spacers on my toybox so it wouldn't close completely and so mine (or anybody else's fingers) wouldn't get trapped if the lid slammed. Another little tidbit that could be fun is putting a secret compartment - it took about 6 years for me to find the one he did (and that was with the help of a cousin)!
