So this is what you do on Christmas Day. Wow. I’ve driven many of the streets often. They are not a war zone. You creeping slow through them is asking for trouble. War zone is a insane term. People are not packed up blasting away 24/7. Yes there is gang and drug activity and it’s tragic. Welcome to America and our lack of doing anything positive in these areas.

Creeping slowly 🐌 through don't scare him. I enjoy these videos only channel that shows the garbage 🗑 neighborhoods up close. I like seeing 👀 the run down buildings the diversity in America 🇺🇸 isn't bad. People need to understand that not everyone is cut from the same tree.

40 years is a long time to plan for growth. I'm originally from California...now that was some serious growth in what people call " Silicon Valley " aka: the San Fransico Bay Area or as locals call the Bay Area. I live now in the South and have for over 30 years.

I can’t believe you said, oh there’s white people riding bikes! In Springfield a lot of white people bought those old wonderful houses and renovated them. So far, you’ve driven by a lot of houses, I don’t think Jax has the really bad slums like you’ve seen elsewhere.

I'm a white person that bought a beautiful old (1909) house in Springfield 5 years ago. I'm a "gentrificationer!" This has been the the best financial decision, by far. The value of my house has doubled in 5 years. I don't know what war zone you're talking about. Ain't in the slums (Springfield) of Jville!

Hey guys, like your videos. I'm a Jacksonville native and lived in one of the neighborhoods you passed through (Brentwood), from 1967-2018. Lots of good memories of that neighborhood and (if I'm honest) a few bad memories. The neighborhood is mostly working class, lower income, families. There are some crime issues (drugs, retail theft, shootings) which have an affect on the property values, but that has been a problem for quite awhile, nothing really new. I recently (practically) gave away my old house I had inherited from my mom to a neighbor. Not so much because of the neighborhood, but because it was hard to keep up a house built in 1926 and take care of another piece of property I had inherited from my dad. That neighborhood has a lot of great history. Former mayors have been born there (Jake Godbold), lived there (Lou Ritter) and Haydon Burn's (Governor and Mayor) mother lived in the neighborhood when I was a kid. The Gateway Shopping Center and Mall used be the biggest retail shopping center in NE Fl. There have been attempts to revitalize the area throughout the years and one day I hope they'll be successful. I still go back on occasion to check on some old friends and do some catching up. I still have mostly fond memories of the neighborhood I grew up in. Made me a better person. An individualist, a survivor. Thanks for the tour and memories guys.

I’m a Jacksonville native and those areas you are riding through were once thriving when I was little. I remember Church’s being on Myrtle and that Mall was real nice with major stores like Montgomery wards, Baskin Robbins etc was on Gulfair! What happened and how do you get major companies back in the area? I see some Gentrification going on but nothing like it was back in the day. I use to walk down 5th and Myrtle with my grandma to many bustling businesses and the neighborhood was nice. I don’t know the answer but I hope to see things get better in my lifetime.

I was raised and lived in Jax for 34 years after moving there from the Kansas City area. Our dad had a job lead with ACLRR - he was murdered within 3 months. A few weeks before dad's death, I was attacked with a knife by an unknown child who began playing with our neighborhood group for the first time. I was hospitalized - never saw the boy again. 5yo at the time. Family fell apart, my sister and I soldiered on through Florida Children's Services (now FDCF). Finished HS, some community college, trade-technical certificate. Married for 7 years, produced one daughter. Spent a number of years working multiple jobs from Truck Driving ,Customer Service, Manufacturing and Handyman positions - neighbors were always a mixed bag at best. After one particularly bad incident, a JSO officer advised we should leave the area. Moved to the Carolinas and never looked back - that was 27+ years ago. Long retired with failing health. Have visited Jax a number of times since - Jax-Duval will always have a special place in my heart.❤ Still remember the first night we spent in Florida - at motel in Tallahassee. We left Florida under cover of night with a 26ft UHaul rental truck 34 years later.

I was born and raised in Jacksonville. I got married and moved away...military life. I just returned here after 22 years. I was raised on the Northside of town....what they now call the Brentwood area. Brentwood was the low income housing they built and Brentwood park. Outside of that was called the Springfield area...from 1st to 27th and down. Now, the call it all the Brentwood area. I loves in the Springfield area. I think news reporters moving to town and new people started that. The areas you're traveling in were busy and looked nicer. We had many businesses that thrived in the areas long ago. As you see, time has not been so kind to many of those areas. People have moved away from town or to the other side of town. Growing up, these areas were some of the safest places to live. I still have relatives who live in those areas. In every city you have the run-down sides(sides of town that use to be popular years ago) and more modern areas that are growing. Those sides of town hold great history. Again, over time parts of time of town haven't fared well. Gateway Mall was the largest malls in the area before Regency Mall and way before the Avenues Mall. Everyone came to town to shop there. Again, time has not been kind to it. The areas you’re visiting use to be predominantly white a very long time ago and then, in the 70's more black people were able to afford to move into those areas and the white people moved out and away. They were working class neighborhoods but, now many of these people have moved away or passed away. What's left are many people who can't afford move or don't want to. Regardless, all of us are still proud of where we came from. Yes....it looks different now but, the childhood memories are endearing. We never called our areas the hood. People from out of town call them that. Oh, the neighborhood you drove through is the Springfield area. It's next to Brentwood park and Brentwood housing. You were on Pearl Street and passed by the street I grew up on. Andrew Jackson High School was around the corner(it's an A+ school now) and there is a Catholic school coming up near the Gateway Mall). And, you're on the Northside of town.

WOW, riding down through springfield and surrounding areas sure brings back memories. Although I left Fl 12 years ago that place hasn't changed one iota looks-wise. I actually worked for the contractor (Hashman Const.) when they built that Kids Hope Alliance building shown down A Phillip Randolph Bvld to 1st. street. Speaking of gangs & violence when we worked on that job you would hear gunfire every once in a while and I did see the life flight helio go overhead one time. There was an apartment that was known for violence nearby and there was two homicides back to back there, it was called Franklin Arms Apartments . We used to joke that you had better be off the job by 5:00 and Fridays we always left around 3:00. Things started jumping on the eastside then and if you weren't from there you didn't want to hang out. I used to run the roads around springfield/panama park area in the late 80's. It wasn't so bad if you weren't caught in the wrong areas at night. Had a lot of good folks lived there as well as the bad element, but if you minded your own business you were usually good to go.

I’m white and I drove school buses in the Raines and ribault area for about 8 years and I’ve driven Uber and Lyft and Ztrip all over Jacksonville and there’s a lot of scary areas and I’ve driven at all times of the day I drove Uber mostly at night and nobody’s ever tried to Rob me and I’ve never seen anyone commit a crime I did see swat surrounding a house but we’re supposed to be the murder capital of Florida Or something and we’re a huge city with over a million people and with that many people what do you expect? There’s a lot of well kept houses in the sibbald area and a lot of houses in the Myrtle Ave and mlk area that are nice and decent law abiding people that have lived in the area all their lives and unfortunately criminals moved into the neighborhood of course there’s probably many people that see crime all the time. If you’re looking for the answer it’s not more money or more businesses or schools it’s Jesus Christ and churches that preach Jesus not these false churches that have prophets or talk about prosperity Jesus came to renew our relationship with God he paid for our sins we have to preach the truth and if everybody got saved nobody would need a gun there wouldn’t be white and black sections you wouldn’t have to tell people how to treat each other and you wouldn’t need police because there would be no crime if everyone was truly saved. Jesus is the only hope for this country. And the world.

Mazes all along 95 and 10 now, coming and going from town...what changes! The beach remained pretty much the same, with a few exceptions. I remember when Main St was full of hookers all up and down to about 44th St/Golfair...driving a taxi for a spell brought back memories but I THANK YOU sincerely for uploading this video!
