According to TripAdvisor it appears that these elevators have been modernized. It is worth noting that many elevator companies appear to say that "elevators are generally due for modernization after 20-30 years". I see few 20 year old elevators getting modernized, but it does seem like 1980s elevators (about 30+ years old) are starting to be modernized. I think at some point (maybe within 10 years) it will become rare to find 1980s elevators in high rises and especially skyscrapers (at least in terms of passenger elevators), especially considering that many high rises are modding their elevators to destination dispatch systems.

Very nice elevators, and I am really amazed that Otis still used relay controllers in the late-80's, even though they look almost like Elevonic 400 series elevators. However, Dover had some relays in their Traflomatic II and III systems, and they also used relays in the Composite controllers (even in the early to mid-90's).

Nice elevators! Never knew relay-controlled Series 1 tractions existed. I've noticed a lot of Series 1s lately don't seem to run all that great. I'm also surprised these are still original even though these are in "strict code heaven".

Also, just because they have KONE sensors doesn't mean they are or were ever maintained by them. I believe they're technically just 3rd-party sensors that any company can use.

Elevating Western PA Productions No, KONE mainly used them only. Pretty sure these had to maintained by them at some point.....

I’m not saying for sure they never were, I’m just saying I’m pretty sure I’ve seen/been on some elevators that have never had a KONE contract in their lifetime, & have KONE sensors on them. So I was just saying that maybe the case here, or it may not have been.

Never knew relay controlled Series 1's existed. I have also never heard of an OTIS traction that is relay controlled that is installed in late 80's or newer, as OTIS rarely used relay controllers for high rise applications since the mode 80's.

These are almost always what building have for service or garage elevators if the main elevators are Elevonic 401s in Dallas. I have noticed the buttons on these click much louder than on regular series 1 as well.
