Vikings still have leverage so it’s unlikely Jefferson is going to refuse a record breaking contract offer. I imagine the dollar figure is finalized just the details are being worked on.

I don't think its any "smoke" it's just drumming up controversy because he was In NJ. It's the same dumb crap that keeps stupid bot pages on FB going. If he truly wanted to be traded, they would have done so ahead of the draft. Let's be real, there isn't another team that could afford him, between the draft capital they would have to give the Vikings, along with the massive contract. That would completely cook most teams.

I think this is the likely scenario. Ceedee is one of the last big dogs that needs a contract. I think Dallas is waiting to see what the Vikings give JJ to set the top of the market, while JJ is waiting to see what Ceedee gets to make sure hes getting more.

He deserves to be the top paid WR because he is the best. I assume that is what the Vikings offered, if he's pushing for a ridiculous number beyond that then we need to have a serious conversation about this guy. Not hating on him he has every right to go after the maximum amount, but that doesn't mean it's in the teams best interest to overpay.

I think another consideration is that he really is the face of the franchise. Until JJ starts and proves that hes good, Jets is the face of MN football. Ultimately there is a significant amount of value in that any money that brings the vikings

You know, I love this team on the field. But I have to say I’m pretty disappointed. Last weekend Minnesota had its yearly diabetes walk, hosted at TCO the Vikings practice facility. With all the support professional teams say they have for the community, not one player or coach showed up for support; mind you, they were all in town for OTA’S and rookie mini camp. Do better.

I hate Florio just as much as the next Viking fan, but he is sort of right on this. Personally, MN should have gotten done last year and if it was about JJ wanting to be the highest paid player (outside of QB) for the length of his contract, they could have done a % raise per year. I also see the other side as well. We all know Dallas is going to over pay Lamb and when they do, it's going to cost MN even more to resign JJ.

I’m confident this deal will get DONE butt, I don’t get the delay? I do get that both sides, if this is on track to get done will be “radio silent.” We’ll, probably, never know the twists and turns of this was finally accomplished. I don’t buy that it’s a money issue or they’re waiting for Lamb, you can always put in the contract an accelerator clause. Seems to me that ALL parties would want this DONE sooner vs later! Skol

Here's what people don't understand about contract negotiations and why so many young players are broke once they are out of the league. The negotiations aren't just about the final number. It's not like the Vikings are offering are offering Jefferson 98 million and he wants 100 million and they are arguing over that..that's not how it works. In the contract, he is required to do dozens and dozens of things with his money. For instance. It might say he is required to spend 10 million on a house in Eden...Check. Then it might say he is required to own three cars. A $300,000 Mercedes Benz, a Rolls Royce and a late model Corvette...Check. He may also be required to take a weeks vacation to Aspen Colorado and stay at such and such expensive hotel and spend three hours signing autographs there.....Check. You get the picture. There are dozens and dozens of things he'll be required to do with that money and that's where the hang ups in negotiations come from. Back to my original point of why young players end up broke. Let's say a young player signs a contract for 20 million and they are required to buy a 10 million dollar house in the most exclusive neighborhood close to the facilities, all the sudden his 20 million contract is cut in half...in other words, it's in his contract how he is to spend most of his money and that's why they end up broke. HE never really gets 20 million dollars. So in the end, they are arguing over how much of that money he is required to spend and on what...that's why these negotiations can drag on for months and months because they have to agree on maybe 20 things he is required to do with that money...

It would be foolish in the way you explained it to think that a player in that situation would pay cash in full for a house. They could require him the buy a house, but to buy one all cash in full for a 5 year contract, is kind of a ridiculous requirement. I think most players end up going broke because of the maintenance of expensive things. You buy a huge house? Ok but now your electricity and heating bills are crazy. You want expensive cars? Great, but now you have to maintain all of those vehicles. Its also worth mentioning in the NFL your career and pay can end very abruptly through injury or getting cut at the end of a contract after a mid season. Now all of a sudden those maintenance costs quickly add up.
