With regard to the metallic stitching, I’ve read if you use a larger-than-normal needle, it opens the fabric a bit more and makes it easier to pass the metallic through. Worth a try🤷🏼♀️

In census records, birth years are listed. (As accurate as they are remembered, I might add). However, the wife’s maiden name is not. Sad but true. Because of this fact, I include my maiden name in all of my samplers. Just as the girls and women did, whose pattern I am stitching, I make it my own. Either by the mistakes I’ve made, or replacing something with something I liked better. A true reproduction is stitch perfect to the pattern. How many of us can say we stitched a reproduction. Model stitchers, even Nicola’s, make and leave in their mistakes. Hence the name, model. It is a likeness. I so enjoy your stitching and your quilts. Thank you for sharing. Liz, Florida

In response to your question regarding sampler identification. I have done both, stitched design with and without design adaptions. At times I don't want to take away from the design, I will then add my initials & date using floss the same color of the background. I like the idea of having both the original name of stitcher along with mine, as you suggested you might do on Ann Gott. I also believe my family would find my stitching more meaningful by personalizing in some way. Enjoy your wonderful upcoming retreat! Love your quilts, always.

So happy to see you arrived safely and you seem sooo happy to be home. Everything is beautiful. Question on the back of the one with your relatives are you putting name and dates so that future generations will know if its 1800, 1900 etc. oh the quilt is so pretty. Love the colours. Well, spring has arrived, am still doing my full coverage since February 1st, but now I am get behind on flosstube with gardening, spring cleaning and regular things. Get up and oh my 5 of my favs put flosstubes up this morning! Lol so watch till hubby is up then get the day going. See you next time and hopefully see your fully finished ones!

Thanks for a great video❤to personalize a reproduction sampler with my initials and date I use a floss that matches the background exactly so it doesn’t show up to interfere with the design but it identifies me and the year I stitched it in 🌻

Have a great time at your retreat! I’ll be looking forward to hearing what you’ve learned. I stitch reproductions and have always added my name and date to them. I don’t want my pieces to be confused with the originals. I don’t get fancy with my name and date. I typically backstitch them on somewhere near the bottom right corner of the sampler.
@recoveringmonogamousstitch19477 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing how you mark your reproduction samplers so it is clear that they are not originals. See you again soon. Best, K

I have always placed initials or my first name and the year stitched. As I got older it reminds me how long I have stitched and if it gets passed on, someone will know when it was stitched. I wish my husband’s grandmother had identified that on her quilts, we inherited several of them and I wish I knew when she finished them. That is my 2 cents.
@recoveringmonogamousstitch19477 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing this with me. I am finding that most stitchers do include at least their initials and date. I know what you mean about quilts that are not dated. I have some from my grandmother and none of them are dated. Some of them I remember approx. when they were finished, but I was just a kid and had no idea that it was important to know the date. I have put ' circa' dates on a few, but that is the best I can do. See you next time. Best, K

Glad to see you home! Counting is hard is just wonderful! The identifying information is so interesting because I would never want to take away the credit from the creator of the piece - but also I wouldn’t want it to be misrepresented. I would have to think the newness of the floss and fabric would be an indicator but of course in a frame that is an issue too! Very interesting. Thank you for sharing all of your beautiful work. Have a great weekend.

Thank you for your comment. Yes, it is a conundrum concerning marking reproductions. Most of the comments I am getting is that stitchers include their initials and date somewhere in the sampler. I really much start doing this. See you again next time. Best, K

Nice to see one of your pretty quilts again. The casket box is coming along beautifully and. surprisingly, the metallic sparkle showed in your video and looks great. I enjoy using metallics (I may have a screw lose). Just wondering if you stitch using the sewing or stab method, as one may be tougher on the metallics than the other. Have a wonderful time at Nicola's class.
@recoveringmonogamousstitch19477 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment. When stitching with the metallic I use the poke and stab method because it is one over one. I think sewing method would be even worse on the thread. See you again soon. Best, K

Glad you made it home safely and are settling in. Love your new starts and looking forward to seeing your newly framed pieces. I did a quick start last night after finishing the April release of the Fox and Rabbit Faith Hope Love SAL, and hope to re-frame something I had done at Michaels many years ago, which was buckling. I opened it up and found they had trimmed the piece and taped it to the back of the mat...I'm sewing strips of fabric to the four sides and lacing it, and hope that lasts for more decades. Happy stitching!
@recoveringmonogamousstitch19477 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. What a terrible experience you had with the Michael's framing job. I always have my framer measure and cut my foam board. I then take it home to pin/lace. They then just pop it into the frame and close up the back. I would be horrified if something like what happened to your piece happened to any of mine. That is really disheartening. See you next time. Best, K

Thank you for asking. Vonna Pfeifer has a tutorial for it. Piece is mounted on mat board and the back piece is covered with fabric. It stands like a book that is on its side. That was like mud. Sorry. I will show it as soon as I get mine finished.
