Hello, My name is Elle and I am from East Texas USA. I am a beginner and This is my first time seeing you. I am so glad I found you because I have been trying to figure out how I want to store my threads. I recently purchased bobbins but quickly realized I do not like this system. Annie’s Keepers are definitely the way I want to go after seeing your demonstration. Thank you very much for being so detailed in showing how the system works and how you load after thread has been on bobbins. I’m looking forward to watching your other videos. Thank you & blessings…

Brilliant!! Wish I hadn't just gone from bobbins to floss bags a couple years ago!!!!! It seems like a pattern in my life -- I am 81 years old and all the technology available to make things simpler and faster are just a little late for me but I am not giving up I just aaccept the challenges and keep truckin' on. Loved the video as I have all your others and as you can see I know how to use a few of the social medias. Hug from a fan in the U.S.

Teresa, I love to watch your videos because I learn so much . You do get me in a lot of trouble though. I have purchased many items because you tried them and you found answers to some of my problems. I watched Jean Farish on KZbin. She is a designer and teacher in the USA. She pulls her kinked threads across a damp sponge to straighten them. I have been doing that and the tread does lay much flatter and all the kinks are gone too. Just thought I'd tell you about Jean Farish. Just keep on doing what you are doing. You make me smile everyday. Love ya, Betty In Michigan USA

This video changed my entire direction! I had NO clue how to pull a single thread from a drop! Once you showed that, it hit me how cumbersome bobbins truly are! I was on the bobbin path and SWITCHED before it was too late! I made a bunch of floss drops and am switching over to them until my Annie's Keeper system comes in. THANK YOU! =D

It was so thorough - showing us how you use them in projects and for storage. I appreciate your showing the difference between the system for projects and storage. Teresa, I just wanted to say thank you for inspiring me to change from bobbins to my version of the floss keepers! I am a D.I.Y er, by neccesity so I thought it out, looked up ideas on youtube and made my own thread drops from heavy card stock and sticky back scrapbooking paper, punched holes in them and numbered them! I have emptied 3 small and 2 large bobbin boxes! I steamed the floss with my clothing steamer it worked like a charm no more wrinkles! I also noticed that my floss isn't tangling up while I'm stitching! I took your idea and copied my symbols chart and cut and taped them onto my thread drops I have been able to get a lot more stitching done! I don't have to keep checking the symbols key ! Thank you again for the great idea! Teresa from America~~~ (P.S. love your name!)

Another fantastic video. I saw this and went and put in my order. In my previous life, years ago in cross stitch there were not many storage options and I used the Loran cardboard thread cards that all went into a trifold plastic envelope. I had two full notebooks of thread and I quickly realized the limitations of the system. Fast forward to this year and going back to cross stitch and I bought the little bags, labeled all of them, placed them on rings according to the numerical series and proceeded to undo all the loran storage. But it was still not a perfect system having to fiddle with little bags and sort them for projects...then I watched this and YES! I'll be putting my tabs into the plastic storage packets in between projects, but this system is going to make pulling threads for a project a dream! I also see that on Annie's site, she now has an option for all the UK stitchers...I'll bet she has you to thank for that! Well done, Teresa. Thank you again.

Thanks for a terrific demo, it answered every question that's been bubbling in my head about these. I've been using and loving Thread Drops since my very old floss bags began to fall apart, but noticed that some them are starting to get creases in the card stock, so I know they won't last forever. I'm going to begin switching over to this system as soon as I kit up the last of my unused Thread Drops. It should be an easy transition since they're very similar.

I also hate winding bobbins and the crimps in the thread. I've started doing something similar to this system only the cheapo way. I've got a bunch of the bobbins so when I'm using DMC, I just punch a hole in there and thread the floss through the way it's done on gentle arts threads. You've got to unwind the skein and fold it in half, and then half over again a couple times to get a good length before cutting the ends of the loops. This way binding have to buy anything new but I get to store them the way I want to. Cross My Stitches Flosstube has a good little demo on how to do this in one of her videos, Flosstube 14 around 12:46.

We seem to have had similar journeys with our systems. I bailed on bobbins about 15 years ago and have become frustrated with the in and out of the plastic bags. I ordered my Annie's Keepers from the JDR Brazilian company in early November then spent 2 months not receiving my product or responses to calls and emails. Terrible customer service. I cancelled the order (fortunately? about that time the credit card was cancelled because it had been hacked) and re-ordered from The Stitching Shop. I had my order in my hands 6 days later. I have taken the opposite approach to yours and am slowly putting 10-15 skeins on keepers every day getting all my floss properly stored. I will then start using them on projects with my February new start but not transition any of the WIPS to the new system. I did buy 2 sets of the 300 storage packs to be able to accommodate the entire set of DMC plus store some of my other threads.

Loved your show. I photo copy the thread and symbol legend and I cut it to size. Then I laminate it, I cut one end a little longer so I punch a hole in the top so I can place it on my ring. I write on the back side the name of the project, fabric information and date started. I do that before I laminate the legend.

This reminds me of the DIY system I used to use 30 years ago when a friend got me into cross stitch, we would cut holes in strips of card, and write the floss number above the hole in marker. It was a bit primitive but worked in a similar way, I would sometimes cut the card so each thread was in it's own little piece and pop them on a ring when kitting up projects. Annie's Keepers is a much better system of course, more user friendly, and kinder on the threads, I've used bobbins for years now, but think I'll go back to this sort of storage method and give them a try :D

I looked into Annies keepers and had the same problem you did okay finding them locally sourced . I am in the US but nowhere near Colorado . So I decided to use the DMC stitchbows but I made my own storage system very cheap very easy to do. I can't seem to figure out how to attach a picture here I don't think it's possible but if you're interested let me know where you would like me to send you a picture. The cost in materials besides the stitchbows was about $10 a box that's US dollars. My box contains three layers holding over hundred. Again the stitch bows are extra. Ranging in price from $0.77 each clearance to $1.99 the most expensive stores.

I know this is an older episode, but I'm hoping you might still read this. Maybe a steamer would help with the kinking of the bobbinated threads? Steamers are often used when blocking knitted projects to relax the stitches, so I figure it might also help for embroidery floss 😁.

Hi, I too mulled over the few options out there for floss and was likewise underwhelmed, so I got frustrated enough to make my own frame but using the stitchbows for expediency. Cheap, easy to make, neutral material, and as individualistic as I want. I tried to attach the photo here, but KZbin won't allow this option. If you'd like to see it and make one for yourself just let me know. The format is a roladex type. I made it to fit my box so each "tray" holds 36, again for my box size one tray stacked on top of another. 3 trays hold average haed pattern. 3 "trays" under $10 US. Includes wood and glue. $8 for stitchbows. $0 for pretty box I already owned. I like it, but so does my husband who cares less about what fiber art I work on. I made a homemade version of the packo to use until I can afford the original thread holder. Thank you for your videos.

Nice video ! I think it’s a good system . But do they get matted? Hi to keep them clean ? Do you keep them in clear bags ? Where or how do you keep the project sliders ?

Hi Teresa. After watching this video, I'm seriously thinking about converting over to these from bobbins. Would you recommend going straight for the storage slides rather than the project slides? I'm just thinking the project slides will serve a dual purpose, rather than having to additionally purchase them down the road. Unless you can convince me otherwise, I'm thinking of ordering the 10 Storage slides and the 100 Keepers for starters. (If by chance I happen to find a coupon code somewhere, I just may go for the 300-Pac!)

Looks like an easy system. If your thread is really kinked, use thread conditioner(bees wax). Comes right out. Thanks for the video!

Hi Teresa, wondered if you could answer a question for me. I plan to do my first cross stitch and it's a HAED mini. What is the best length to cut my floss that would work for both 1 over 1 as well as 2 over 1? I plan on doing my mini with one strand but I may do other projects with say 18 count or something and then I'd want to do 2 strands. It looks like your strands, based on the ruler method are 24". Is that too long for single strand stitching? And thank you soooo much for this series! it has totally made feel that I can do this.😊

Hey julie! thank you for your lovely comment and this is a great question - so I always cut the length as if I would stitch 2 strands using a loop start. Then when using this strand for a single strand I would pull the thread and cut in half - putting the remaining half back on the keep as a single strand

@@TeresaLittleStitcher May I ask two more questions please? 1) Do you worry about or have a problem with threads slipping under the weave when working 1 over 1 one linen or evenweave? 2) If I see fabric through my stitches will it shrink up when washed? Thanks again-Julie

I use bobbins stored in a double sided case that fit the whole DMC set along with the new 35 colors. It comes with a handle that you can carry the case with you if you want, however if you are working on one project you just grab your case and take out the bobbins that apply to your project and put those on rings and go. Easy Peasy. Im working on collecting the Anchor set to be stored the same way.. Dont like kinks use a flat iron and they go away. Still exploring a way to store my WDW threads. Im not sold on that system, I think its the potential to get tangly and dusty and dont have the storage space to store such a system anyways Just my opinion.

No these Annies Keeper do not fit in an A4 file box. It needs to be a US file box i'm afraid.

I'm so tempted to convert. I've not been a bobbin person, I've used floss bags. I have found that the bag and ring system is not very good on project that has 40 + threads. How is your system working for you now that you've been using it for more than a month? Does your floss when put in a project bag, get knotted?

Hey Debbie! I’m loving my new system. I don’t have a problem with tangling as I wrap the threads before they go in project bag and it is still much better than having to suffer the kinks in the thread from the bobbins - so far I love it still 💗

Teresa Little Stitcher I’ve already ordered the starter pac and 100 keepers. I’m going to only use it for my larger projects and still use my floss bags for small kits and storage. I may change my mind after I start using them. We’ll see thank you for the product review.

When I took a lot of my floss off bobbins the kinks drove me nuts so I used my flat iron on some, it worked ok but........it was taking too much time so I just left it, they eventually straitened on their own. The system reminds me of an older style curtain hanging system that used to be popular, I remember all the plastic tabs that fit into a slider on the back of the rod. I hope it works out for you and you’re happy with it. Sounds good, especially since they will fit in your file drawer. I was wondering if there might be something similar in a business supply shop. There are less and less file type equipment though as files are kept in the cloud, or some digital storage devise.
