I love your sweet tender heart. If we spend our lives here on this earth and never learn the importance of love and its effects on every living creation, then we have wasted our time here. I would have been upset over the duck eggs being abandoned as well. Maybe this was the mommy's first experience laying her eggs and knowing how to incubate them properly. Sometimes even human mothers don't understand how best to raise their children either. Hopefully, family will always be there to fill in for the innocent children. Unfortunately, animals are going by instinct, instead of understanding the things that we, as humans, learn as we mature. You are one of the angels here, that are aware of sharing your love to bring joy to others. Thank you for your example!

You have a beautiful heart, Crane. ❤ I have developed a new perspective on the wildlife that visit my garden since I have been more involved in gardening. I have also learned to appreciate leaves and pine needles as free mulch and soil enrichment from nature rather than just something to rake up and dispose. Several weeks ago I had the opportunity to sit in my garden for a nice break. Initially I was sad because I didn’t have the physical ability to do all that I wanted to do in the garden that day. Then I decided to embrace my moment with nature and change my perspective. There was such an amazing variety of birds present that day; watching them flit around my yard was just what I needed. Being present with nature on that day was a much better use of my time than whatever chores I wasn’t able to complete.

I know how you feel. It is very sad when we have lost baby birds that were raised in our backyard. But your aunt is somewhat right. I think birds know when the eggs are not viable. Perhaps they have a built in clock and if they don’t hear peeping or feel movement from inside the eggs by a certain time, they know it is time to abandon the nest. Eggs perhaps were never fertilized. She will probably return next spring to try again. Hugs to you for having such a large heart! ❤

It is touching to see how you care for animals (I do too !) ^^Since I have a garden and started gardening, it made me more aware of all the life there is outside, birds, insects...This year I added a minipond and then I saw frogs and hedgehogs ! I had to add fishes to the pond to fight the mosquitoe pressure we have here and then recently I discovered my fishes had little chances of surviving outside so I had to buy an aquarium but I didn't manage to catch all of them so I'm sad some of them won't survive winter.

Crane I am so sorry that was the outcome for the mommy duck and the eggs. You have such a huge heart and a beautiful soul. I loved this video. Like you I find myself talking to the little creatures in my garden. When I'm watering and a hummingbird shows up to say hi. When I'm digging a hole and I have to move the worms that I've uncovered. I talk to the deer but I use a few words I cannot say on KZbin. LOL. They are beautiful creatures. I just wish they'd have their breakfast down the street. My garden brings me so much joy as well. I am close to my mom and others in my garden. I lost my mom in March of this year. She was 92 years old. I had her a long time but it was not long enough. She was an amazing gardener. She was big into hostas long before they were popular, she started rhododendrons, azaleas, yews, so many plants from cuttings when I was young and now those plants stand taller than me. I could go on and on about plants that remind me of her and gardening stories. When I go into my garden I always do a lot of reflecting and I think of my mom and other special people. In my parents house is a small teacup sitting on a shelf that holds a very small bird nest. In it my mom had stuck different feathers that she had found in her yard or on walks. It's such a simple thing but so beautiful to me and my most treasured item in their home. So in answering your question what do I love in my garden besides flowers I can say I love my mom, my grandmother, friends, all the people I think about while I busily work in my garden. Patti P.S. I'm also trying to make friends with the snakes but that's a hard one for me.

I think you should check it out and send in one of the videos of your garden. She mentioned that she had done that with Laura from Garden Answer and that is how she got more followers. She posted the information today. She actually had foot surgery recently and cannot film as much in her garden until she heals so she decided to have viewers send in their gardens.

Probably a 3 inch lizard. I even have video of it😢. I see roadrunners in my neighborhood all the time. I’ve watched these lizards for several years. The last few years we have had the most beautiful tree frogs. Ernie is our resident black snake. Chick- a monka is obviously the chipmunk. Crane, this past spring and summer I had three different doves came and laid eggs in my hanging geraniums. At first I was concerned that the mama's wouldn't want me in the back yard because of the nests, but I just left them alone and they got really used to my presence. Except the third dove did the same as your mama duckling. She abandoned the babies and I researched on the internet on what to do because I was so upset. I had to learn that things happen and that's part of nature, for the time I was blessed with the presence of new life in my little garden and felt humbled that the mama's chose my area to come and nest. Gardening has truly given me a new appreciation for all of God's creatures. It brings pure joy,
