I'm not going to name names, you can find the comment on your own. One thing I want to say as a trumpet player, one who is also very critical, is why are we all so dang critical of other trumpet players? He did a fine job whether he changed mouthpieces or not. He is blessed to perform on the instrument I have devoted half of my lifetime to play and I'm sure he's put in as much time as many of us. So stop with the critical comments and just enjoy the music for music's sake. *gets off soap box*

Too much brass banding has made us all competitive and critical.

I agree. On top of this, from this clip we don’t know what programme this band had up to this number, thus we don’t know which level of fatigue this guy was at. Many here should indeed shut their mouths. So what, he changed his mouthpiece. Big deal. I used to do that on my Bb trumpet depending on what piece we played. Nothing wrong with that.

For all the critical comment : Its not an instrument he is often playing. And i know he is amazing because i saw it on concert with the vienna brass connection, and if he change mouthpiece im sure its because he play many piece before. So stop to be so critical. Im also totaly agree with the comment of Stephen cook about this subject.

Fabulous in my opinion. His intonation on that difficult instrument was spot on. It sounds fairly easy untill you try to play it that well. Well done Mr.

what an amazing sound, fantastic performance. I agree with some of the commenters a little strident at the end with the mouthpiece change but great job overall, he pulls it off

It really does not matter. Look at some of the finest Trumpet players, Tine Thing, Wynton Marsalis, or anyone who's made it into the international spectrum, its really not important. As long as it works for you. Honestly though he plays with such emotion and talent technique doesn't matter at that level

The first part is very nice, very good sound. But the final with the "other" mouthpiece is a bad choice. The sound is not any more mastered...

No need to change the mouthpiece for the end of the piece, it's too sad for the sound. By facing the public like him, It's easy for the soprano to overtop the brass band.
@5mikeyman58 жыл бұрын
+zjick the mouthpiece change was likely for the range at the end of the piece. its very high and extremely difficult and he probably wanted the extra bit of security. Also, the tone change fits in with the style quite well
@brianadamson23354 жыл бұрын
I do not know why he chose to replace his mouthpiece either but as for the ending I was always taught that if you could not hear the soloist the band was playing too loudly and this happened occasionally in this recording. The ending sounded fine to me. Why not let him have his day? Fine playing, and he obviously put his heart into it! It must have taken many, many hours of practice to achieve this high standard of playing. Many congratulations.

Hi Mark, how you doing? hope you're ok. totally agree with you, end of the day, everyone knows PRs version he did with YBS will probably never be topped, but this kid did pretty well, had a couple of scrapes but that piece is bloody hard and high up. as you know i'm predominantly a Bb player and I try to play the melody line in the equivalent pitch so it sounds the same, and my lips gone after 1 attempt lol. Fair play to anyone who tries to play this solo, its a belter, 1 of my favourites :-)
