I totally agree with you regarding the Annabelle and Incrediball. I like the more natural look of Annabelle vs. on steroids look of the Incrediball. Plus, the Annabelle's blooms are pale green longer, which I like.

I love these smaller garden tours. I value your knowledge and the smaller format gives you time to give us all of the details of your experience wih various plants. Ahhh Annabelle. I love her too in spite of her bad posture. Last fall I pruned her to 18 inches and that seemed to keep her up a bit. I think she just needs to be planted with room for her to flop.😄😄😄. Problem solved.

I agree with you about Annabelle hydrangea. Incrediball and the others look like fake flowers on sticks, where Annabelle is more graceful and softens the edges which is why it was a favorite with the Victorians. They can take anything nature throws them too!

Have you ever the variety, and land for planting! Thank you for sharing, Erin. I pruned, thinned way out my Invincible Limettas twice this year, because of the amout of blooms and flopping. Was driving me nuts! Besides, seems everybody has growing now and all I see is overgrown floppies! I like mine more orderly for my garden, personally. Apples, how wonderful!! Sweet peas, darling!

Loving these tours - thanks for sharing your ideas. Always appreciate the plant reviews (I’m in zone 5-6 so the feedback is pertinent to my garden.) The concept of planting annuals for color close to the house is brilliant! Will plan to do that next year. BTW - how’s Dorothy doing without her beloved Odin? Any puppies in the future???

Try milky spore for your Japanese beetles! I did three applications last year (spring, summer, fall) and I can count on one hand the number of beetles I’ve seen this year

Hi Erin, I enjoy your garden tours and the honest assessments you offer. My experience with Angelonia has been similar to yours, that one and Nemesia always look so beautiful at the nursery, not so great in my yard after a few weeks. Love the chive hedge, great idea!

I love the shorter but more detailed videos. What are the 2 boxwoods that are potted in the oval garden? I love my Annabelle hydrangea. It was the only plant that survived a new sewer line replacement! I have it at the front of a banked garden bed so it spills over. I grow other hydrangeas as well but Annabelle is my favorite. I do have a more wild garden but I love it. Not everything has to be so controlled.

I have an area that I don’t really love, so I want to expand it to a circle garden. I love watching your videos to get inspiration for my own garden. My problem has always been loving almost every plant. I see something I love, then buy one. My garden ends up looking messy. I need to start planning ahead and planting in drifts.

Browsing your borders in detail like this, learning about the habits of named varieties, is giving me loads of planting ideas. eg. If a plant flops after rain, that's good to know, won't effect people living in dry areas, maybe not so good in Ireland, lol. If something flowers really poorly in even a little shade, then we'll be reminded it might not suit a shadier garden, etc. So thank you.

Ugh, I know what you mean about the lean. We are bordered by woods to the west, so all of my plants (and trees!) want to lean east. They get plenty of hours of sun total, but not too much after the sun heads west. It honestly annoys me, and some plants fall over because of it. It’s really a challenge to find plants that will work across garden beds, because their exposures are pretty different, because of the house, woods, etc.

Foxtail Fun and the skyscrapers stimulated some thoughts and/or🦋 ideas on this informative tour. We have Cicada Killer wasps that chase away visiting hummingbirds trying to get a drink, along with plenty of June 'Bug' Beetles in OhiO that are munching on my🪲 blue lake green bean leaves and making lace leaves of the 'iridescent' call it radioactive cannas.

It's always a pleasure and informative to watch your videos. Thanks for sharing your design thought processes and experience with the plants. PW angelonias have done well for me this year but they are in a very sunny west-facing location (zone 6b). I'm seeing tarnished plant bugs on a couple of my dahlias this year -- the plants started out blooming well but then stopped and foliage was distorted. If you find a good treatment to discourage these bugs, please let us know!

Yes! But I haven’t really found it to be practical for my applications because the places I want trees are in pavement and I haven’t seen an application where I’d want them in the ground but higher where a planter would come into play.

I always think I should switch out my Annabelle, but good to hear your insight. Also so true about tropical plants taking a while to star- I overwintered the Shrimp plant, and it just started blooming end of July. It is loaded with blooms and beautiful now, but quite the wait!

Hi Erin. Thank you for the beautiful tour. Have you ever grown or thought about growing centaurea montana (a.k.a., mountain cornflower)? It seems like a plant you would like because it's different and you don't see it everywhere. I first saw it in an English garden on a recent trip, came back and bought a variety called Amethyst Dream to add to my own garden. Anyway, highly recommend it!

Great tour and great info Erin. Thank you. My Tuff Stuff Ah-ha and Tiny Tuff Stuff Ah-ha barely bloomed this year - just some on the lower branches as well as my Big Band macro philias. Last year they all bloomed beautifully. I was thinking it was due to a late spring freeze in my area. But thanks for the tip on pruning the Tuff Stuff to size check them. I think I will try. I have Invincible mini Mauvette or Ruby and it’s floppy but I love it. I’ll probably prop it up a little.

Could you plant the birch trees from the planters into the ground right there, or are you worried about the roots disturbing the sidewalk or the trees eventually getting too big for the space? Erin, VERY disappointed in Purple Bell Vine. On your recommendation last year, we bought both seed & plants late last simmer, kept them indoors all winter and planted them out mid-May ( Zn 5b - suburban Chicago area) and have great length in the vines but NO blooms. We'll take them indoors again this Fall to see what happens next year but lack of blooming again and we'll turf them out....
