Hi Tricia, we have Flow Super's on our website for sale. Alternatively you can just purchase the Flow Frames and modify an existing langstroth hive. Our Flow Frames are available separately in sets of 3, 4, 6 and 7. These are designed to be used with existing Langstroth deep hives and can be purchased with or without a super box. The Flow Hive 2 beetle trap is very effective with about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil. If you would like to see the Flow Hive 2 (SHB) beetle trap working over-time, I can send some pictures? Here in the USA the J months (June-July) are beetle time. We counted and cleaned out dead beetles from the trap weekly and here's the 2018 SHB counts starting in 15 June - 66, 70, 100, 90, 121, 146, 87, 45 - ending 1 Aug. This was our first year bee keeping, so the numbers aren't from neglected or previously infected hives.

Thanks for your calm, informative and positive approach when explaining the beekeeping business. I learned a lot from you. I’m from Brooklyn NY My first year flow hive super on top of 2 full brood boxes, is full of honey and the bees will soon start capping them. I’m afraid that they’ll reach a point when no more space and they’ll start thinking of going for a vacation. Did you try stacking 2 honey flow supers on top of each other? What’s the expected outcome? Thanks.

It should be no different than stacking two regular honey supers on top. Once your honey super is full, if you're not going to harvest, you add another super on top and they start working on that one. Don't add another super on top if you are going to harvest the full flow super. They'll add more to the empty one.

Okami I asked that, since population continued to increase and explode, before honey was capped. If I wasn’t acting fast, I could experience half the colony swarming. I ended up splitting it to 2 hives, and both gave me a full flow hive harvest in the first year of beekeeping!! Thanks for replying.

So you want to let the frames/brood box fill up before adding the super? Or can you just add the super right away once you receive your nuc and install them in the brood box? Thanks! ~Joseph

Yes, I think so. There is a rule called 7/10. When 7/10 of the brood box frames are full, you can add the super.

On the top cover, the hole...what is the purpose...is it to allow ventilation....should it be plugged or left open?

Generally not, as this could lead to the food being stored in the Flow Super and contaminating honey stores that come in. It is best to feed the bees until they have a good supply stored in the brood box, to assist with wax production and fueling their foraging trips. -Kieran

Yes, they work in the North Eastern United States :) If your bees are producing plenty of honey, then they will do just fine with the Flow-Supers as they would with regular supers. BUT, if your bees are not filling honey supers, then adding a flowhive with a Flow-Super won't increase their productivity. I've converted almost all of my apiary to FlowHives.

Hey Shelly, Great question :) Essentially you can feed above the super through the inner cover the same way you would above the brood box. If you have a spare brood box you can place this on top of the super to house the jar, or, use the zip lock bag method (here's a video shows what this is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oH-yaYRsmtmFp80 ) or, get a feeder for the front of the hive from a beekeeping supplies shop. It's such a good question. You can if you are wanting to maximise honey storage, but it won't generally be neccessary. Unless you have a huge colony that can work on multiple boxes at the same time. One of the best things about the Flow Frames is you can harvest as soon as they are ready, and the bees can go right back to filling them back up after you harvest. The just need to uncap and reseal the cells. -Kieran

Hi Rick, It is important to place your bees in the brood box and wait until they are fully established before adding the Flow Super containing the Flow Frames to your hive. This can take week or even months, depending on whether you have a nuc or package of bees, and will vary greatly depending on the time of year and the local resources available for your bees. For best results it is recommended that you check to ensure that all the Brood Frames have been drawn out before adding the Flow Super. The combination of a full Brood Box along with a significant amount of bees will help to encourage your bees to make fast progress on the Flow Frames. Bees will often swarm rather than go up threw an excluder on to new plastic frames. I cant see a Flow box being any different.

So you are saying that after 10 years of development they should not be able to recover their research costs and run a profitable business? Just let the Chinese make cheap copies and steal the design like they do with everything else? Sorry, I disagree. It took me a long time to be able to afford a Flow 2. I will install the NUC shortly. If you want cheap you could get a Langstroth hive.
