Coming back to Shaun's tutorials after a year of practice and progress. Now better realising the level of skill and expertise this man has, it is truly magnificent how smoothly he is able to demonstrate every tiny step of the learning curve. People with this much skill and expertise usually forget the baby steps and skip to the shiny stuff and expect you to do the same which is frustrating and demotivating for the beginner. Shaun deserves a huge shoutout for his incredible ability to empathize and for keeping the "novice inside" still alive.

Just tonight I was at a skatepark and for the first time EVER stumbled onto skating backwards after coming off a slowing roll from the wall or halfpipe. I could roll backwards pretty well in the halfpipe but never from a standstill and as you know, rolling backwards is not the same as skating backwards. Been trying for months. Had I come across this video I could have started months ago though! Such great instructionals here. This will be my new go to video for getting into that backwards flow.

But, today, I actually brought you with me while I was out on my skates and practiced all of the lessons in order after reviewing each one - it was incredible how rapidly I progressed in skill and confidence! Amazing! Thank you for breaking it down into itty bitty pieces in such an incredible way. Your pedagogy is phenomenal. You made this so learnable. And practicing all of the parts as you demonstrated increased my confidence and my physical and intellectual understanding. Wow! This was such an amazing learning experience. I am so grateful.

Thanks to you both! I did not need to see it in slow motion to grab what I had to do. Everything was well explained: what to do with the feet, hips and where to put the weight, step by step. When you start to skate, at almost 48 you don't feel at ease when you don't know the technique. Not like children: 'Mom just jump, you will feel how to do it!' Yheh, but mom doesn't want to fall so much awaiting the feeling to come...This video was what I needed for learning to skate backwards! Merci beaucoup!
