It’s not about smashing the punch bag as hard as possible it’s about precision, timing and technique. Mayweather is a master of this

Technique, resistance and muscle memory. If you spent your energy going all out you'll be wasted in seconds, do this for a while and your arms learn to let themselves go instinctively.

The way Floyd looks against the bag, for some reason, he looks like he is "working" the bag rather than killing it. It looks satisfying.

This is how you get a workout on a heavy bag. Anyone criticizing his punching power doesn't get it. It's about endurance and mixing up your punches while enjoying a good workout!

Does any one know what size heavy bag that is? If I am not mistake that is a 200lb heavy bag and Floyd is really smashing that thing. Now to give you guys some perspective...Pacquiao does not hit a heavy bag like that one. He hits smaller heavy bags. Further if you understand what hitting the heavy bag is about you would understand it has to do with balance placing and resistance. Any way Floyd is doing some incredible things here. But again people will not appreciate the incredible fighter he is until his career is over I guess.

I've worked out on traditional heavy bags kzbin.infoUgkxp9-sf95nqfjey-uyzxUzQ7m9MXRPK1BE a spherical stuffed "wrecking ball" bag, and now this thing. What I like about it is that it has the heft to stay largely in place so I'm not chasing it around. It's tall enough to allow for headshots and body shots, but it's short enough to give an uppercut somewhere to land. I'm very happy so far. Filling it was a bit of a cluster. For top-offs, I've learned that you can screw the supplied nozzle onto any basic plastic water bottle. I can't speak to durability as I've only had it a week.

Comments are ignorant. Mayweather is training like he fights. Those are volume punches...he doesn't stop and keeps you off balance until you are vulnerable so he can get you with power shots. Most boxers will go for solo power shots and end up missing or getting out of balance. mayweather keeps up his defense while keeping his opponent off balance. He wears them down through his steady punching and steel defense.

Floyd has a very under rated body shot. It's those kinda of body shot that takes away the gas in the tank and then when the fighter hits the petal there is no gas in the tank and then Mayweather really starts to pick apart his opponent.

The reason why Mayweather is not punching the bag hard is that he has bad hands. As such he does not want to damage his hands punching the bag. He is not known as an explosive puncher anyway but saves his best for the actual fight.

to those th@ criticise this soft punching- Floyd is punching the bag soft for a reason... he is sparing his knuckles for a time that matters... As long as you do your bench press, tricep dips, pull-ups, push-ups and military press... you will always maintain a strong punch... Notice that Floyd only works on the FORM of his punches rather than the impact... he knows he got a knockout punch at his disposal... he aint gotta prove it on no heavy bag, its kinda pointless..and its not like he aint never knocked out his opponents. This is just another example of a boxer training smart.

Please tell me you weren't serious about the list of weight training exercises having anything to do with punching power ?
@thorisogaobuse29
@thorisogaobuse29 7 жыл бұрын
axe chops, snatches and other core exercises obviously give you a better torque in ya hip rotation which is the main thing you need for your punching power.. but i have an appreciation for the exercises that I've listed cz, from my own personal experience, my shoulder and elbow joints can tolerate the impact of hitting a heavy bag a lot better when I've done strength training on my shoulders and triceps... the bag feels lighter and i feel much stronger and well conditioned for bag work... so can't nobody tell me that muscle development is completely useless.... the bigger you are the harder u can hit... it enhances your punching power... you should know that. It's pure common sense.
@ANG3LAT0S
@ANG3LAT0S 7 жыл бұрын
I would agree & disagree. I shouldn't have said weight training would have zero to do with benefiting punching power. What I should have said is that it has nothing to do with punching power directly, but to some extent yes; I would actually agree that the right movements may assist indirectly. "The bigger you are, the harder you can hit." That's definitely not a simple one to one. The bigger person does not by default hit harder than the smaller person simply because of weight/muscle mass; that theory just makes zero sense. Technique and raw power play the main role. Size does NOT = power. Strength does NOT = power. Power is measured by explosiveness, and strength is measured by the amount of force the muscle can exert against. Weight training may benefit the joints somewhat, but I would argue that if done excessively can damage the joints.
@thorisogaobuse29
@thorisogaobuse29 7 жыл бұрын
+Costa Angelatos... you make a lot of sense... and that is a very fair comment in all honesty... but punching a heavy bag too hard all day is more detrimental than doing boxing specific weight lifting... thats the main thing I'm saying here. you'll fuck around and get boxer's fracture when u hit too hard too frequently. which is why Mayweather took the smart route of hitting the bag with consistency and agility in his mind. he saving the haymakers for the big day you dig?
@ANG3LAT0S
@ANG3LAT0S 7 жыл бұрын
Oh I would agree. Anyone who doesn't understand/appreciate this video, it tells me that they don't understand boxing. Floyd snaps his punches beautifully, and some people don't realize the power that's generated from those snaps simply because the bag isn't swaying back & forth. The fact that there are people who criticize the bag work of boxing's former pound for pound best, 49-0, is MIND BOGGLING.
