Floyd Rose Nut Clicking Sound - Schecter Sun Valley Super Shredder III

Fixed a clicking problem at the locking nut on a Floyd Rose, comment if you have experienced these problems too, it might help someone else find a fix!

So glad to find this vid! I just bought an SVSS exotic and it had the same exact problem. I ended up taking the nut off and reinstalling it, making sure the screws were nice and tight, and the issue went away! Crazy such an expensive guitar has so many instances of this issue!

My Jackson soloist was doing the same thing- Both screws were the same size and were tighten down- after reading one of the above comments, I stuck a toothpick and broke it off in the nut hole, a screwed back in and now it works perfectly. Thanks so much.

i gotta jackson kelly with through neck and i get the same sounds when whammy. so your saying take the nut off and put a toothpick in the screw hole, break it off then screw the nut back in? putting the screw into the toothpick? is this just giving it something to bite onto to hold better?

Hi, I had the same problem. Drove me nuts. I eventually discovered it was the low e string rubbing on the screw that holds the bar tensioner in place behind the nut. I think it happened when the tension on the string was released with a dive, then when I would pull up on the bar, it would ping as the string slid over one of the grooves in the little screw that holds the tension bar. I took the bar off and put locking tuners on...problem solved. Now I love it!

I just got an used Kramer Nightswan with the this problem. I don't want to return it because I think I had a good deal. The guitar looks like new and I it came with a Kramer gig bag. I will consider this option. Thank You for posting this video.

Just bought the SVSS Exotic. Had the same problem. All I had to do is remove strings and locks, then tighten the 2 mounting screws.

Thanks for this. I have a new Schecter Reaper 6 and was hearing clicks. For me it wasn't one of the screws being proud... just one that wasn't tightened up properly. No clicks now :)

I bought my Sun Valley Super Shredder FR S back in May and it had this exact same problem. It drove me nuts, i thought that the tuners are the problem as they weren't tightened enough, but i tightened them and the problem was still there (btw, the tuners were really loose, if you took the strings off, they were almost coming out without any effort, really disappointed in that). I also thought that the nut wasn't tightened enough, but it actually was and I figured out that the nut caps are not lubricated enough for the string friction so i sprayed a little WD40 on them and bam, problem solved! Never had this issue since then and i really abused that FR.

Woah I checked my nit and it had the same problem with two different types of screws but I didn’t replace it I just extra tightened it and it worked thanks for this video I was about to buy a new original Floyd rose for $450 cad

I have an old 1989 Yamaha shredder guitar that the nut would pop like that on occasion so I took it apart just as you did and indeed one of the screws was not gripping, it had been stripped out so I just did the old toothpick and Wood glue trick broke it off inside the hole and the screw tightened up perfectly fixing the issue. Variation to your problem but the same effect where the nut was not held down squarely and firmly enough

My jackson pro dinky was making the exact same click sound at the nut when i used the floyd, but still stayed completely in tune. It stopped making the clicking sound after got the truss rod adjusted. It has not made that sound one single time ever since then.

My SVSS doesn’t have this problem but the g string is sharp when I return the term back to neutral after diving. I have it blocked to dive only so I’m wondering if the saddle isn’t completely smooth. I put the Gotoh 1996 on my Christmas list so we’ll see if it shows up. I loved the one I put on my Charvel but other than this g string problem, there isn’t too much difference between the two.

I like to flatten the bottom of these nuts using sticky sandpaper and a old granite cheese cutter base. Make sure the neck seat is flat and clean. Only do this if you know about setting nut height.

The 2 screws holding down nut are loose or the screw holes are stripped. Tighten or fix. If stripped use toothpick and super glue.

I bought the exact same guitar back in June. I’ve never had the clicking problem, but the one I was sent was supposed to have a 5 way switch, but was only 3. They sent me a new switch, and was an easy fix. I love the guitar, and won’t hesitate to buy another Schecter! Thanks for the video!

Same problem here on my brand new Sun Valley FRS. Removed the 3 cap screws on the nut and discovered they only screwed the nut to the neck with ONE screw (should be two) . Now I have the problem of sourcing the exact screws. Really annoyed to have spent £800 on a guitar that is let down poor QC in the factory.

Hey man, try a #2 x 5/8" wood screw. They fit the Floyd Special nut on my import Nuno.

I have a similar problem with a jackson. It rarely pops when I pull up, but always on dives. To make it worse, it's on the bridge side, so you can hear it through the pickups very loudly

yeah man I have this same friggin issue, really ruins the playing too when you're tryna bomb and it pops super loud. Not sure how to fix it but taking the tuning locks off the nut stops it from happening

I have the same guitar with the same issue. I took off the low E/A lock-down and it stopped. I bet I need to check those 2 screws !!

The top screw nuts can do this. Through bolts will not. Also the installer didnt bias the nut when drilling.

Check every screw on your guitar buddy, especially the neck screws on bolt on necks. I have an Ibanez Jem Premium, and it sometimes does this click on dive bombs. But I feel the problem comes from the plastic cover for the truss rod....

Hey dude I come again for feedback. After I screwd out two screws on the locking nut. I found that they have same radius but different length. However that's not the reason about clicking. One of them is not tight. I think the thread is broken or something, by guitar factory or accidentally by me for some reason. You just can't tight it on, sliding endlessly inside the hole. Although the clicking problem exist when I just purchased it. So I teared a little piece of wood from a matchstick, and put it inside the hole then screw it on. No more clicking sound. Oh yeah. ...but seems still a little bit out of tune if use whammy bar too wild ... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TwT (not really lol far better than before

I’ve also had the issue with a truss rod cover causing a click when the nut is changing tension if you have one on there.

I was fool enough to buy one of these, the Floyd rose that comes with it is garbage, mine didn't match the radius of the neck, the fine tuning adjustments are horribly sloppy, I'm dumping it off to the first offer I get. Schecter really lowered the bar on this guitar, poor quality control.

I have the same problem. My strat has two strings that seem to slide around in the nut. It's as if the groove isn't flat in the nut and when I do a bend the string moves over the uneven part of the groove in the nut. I'm going to try to file it down a little.
