Let’s take a journey into nature and history as well as we explore Half Moon Wildlife Management Area. A scenic wilderness near the Withlacoochee River with many miles of multi-use trails to explore along with plenty of off the beaten path places. The preserve was once the site of a small town called Alto now abandoned and reclaimed by nature. During the 1800’s and early 1900’s the area had several homesteads and ranches along with a nearby railroad. Today it is known as the Tram trail in the preserve. It’s a great place to hike or take your bike and is also great for equestrians as well. It’s a peaceful place with an array of wildlife to see if you are lucky. On this adventure I ride in some of the areas in the preserve and hike some of the spots as well.
