The Dabbawala system works due to strict discipline and rules. Dabbawala cannot be late to pick up the food and Dabbawala's customer also cannot be late giving the food to Dabbawala. If the Dabbawala's customers don't follow their rule, they will be black listed after violating the rule for 3 times. The Dabbawala have the right not to provide service the black listed customers. If a Dabbawala are unable to work due to sickness or other reson, other Dabbawala will take over his work so that their customer will not be affected.
