Hello everyone :) In today's video I'm showing you how the fluent forever app functions. It's still in the beta stage, so there should be some improvements. I'm using it to improve my French but they also offer lessons in German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Korean. If you want to learn more about the app, go to their website: fluent-forever.com
Btw, they have a 14-day free trial, so you can test the app for yourself.
Here's the TED Talk I mentioned: • Why We Struggle Learni...
I was obviously NOT sponsored. All opinions are my own. I hope you found this helpful. Thank you so much for watching :D

I hope you found my review useful! Also, my phone didn't record everything for some reason, that's why I couldn’t show you certain parts of the app. But I think you can find a full demonstration of it on their website. Thanks for watching🤗

Wow, nice review! A couple of features of this app seem like a really good idea, e.g. the "explore" part. Layout looks nice too. I find this whole "associate words with..." and "make sure you use pictures" etc etc quite tiresome. It's a bit more complex than what I'm about to say, but basically I would say that very often people seem to be talking about the best way to remember stuff rather than the best way to learn a language. Language is not about memory any more than food is about cutlery. Memory is a tool that helps you get to the stage of using the language, but personally I have not found it necesssary to ever use pictures to learn words. (You actually kind of proved this in that, it's not as if you don't understand the word "beard" less than I do. You just forgot the English at that very moment, because your understanding of a word and your memory of that word are not necessarily related.) Of course I have no problem with other people using pictures of whatever, but when apps are like "You should do it this way" then it kinda puts me off. I think that's why I link Lingvist. Lingvist and I are just on the same wavelength: words in context, and not a lot more. But I can see why other people don't like Lingvist (and as I have said from the start: it's not to learn the language, it's just for learning words.) I'd definitely be interested in checking out Fluent Forever if they end up getting some more obscure languages. Thanks for the review!

Days of French 'n' Swedish Thank you😃 Yes, it doesn't make sense for a lot of words. His argument is that children learn languages that way. I guess it also depends on what kind of learner you are (I'm an auditory and visual learner). But when I was at school I learned the words by memorizing them (and I still know most of them). Yes, Lingvist is great!

Pictures are good for A1 words - more frequent, more concrete.

It would be nice to receive an update from your side concerning the fluent forever app since 2 years passed. I am very curious and hope to hear from you. Cheers Daniel.

Hi Daniel, Thanks for your question. My subscription ended a few months after I filmed this video and I decided not to renew it. Back then there were a couple of technical problems and I also thought it was time consuming to learn vocabulary that way. Also, it's too expensive for the use you get (in my opinion). Nowadays I use Drops to learn specific vocabulary. I still think that this method is effective but you could use it with other apps or create cards on Anki and study that way. So I don't think this app is the only/best way to apply this method. I hope this helps. Best, Anita

@@Tomanita Thank you very much. Very much appreciated. My go-to is Anki and I also know about Drops. You've convinced me and I am not gonna look closer at the fluent forever app then. I think it's more powerful when you create your own deck on Anki anyways. Like with audio files and pictures and stuff. Thanks again and bye :) Daniel

Love hearing about and trying new language learning tools! I am jealous you speak so many languages haha. How does this compare to other apps and tools?

Emma Dendler Thank you so much, Emma🤗 I'd say it's like any app/program where you create flashcards but they make it easier for you. So it's great to improve your vocabulary (especially because you see the words used in sentences) but it doesn't help you with the grammar. The best app I've tried that covers everything is Busuu😃

Was the app in beta 3 years ago? I thought it was longer. I tried it out and after choosing a picture I thought the English word was deleted and inaccessible. Was I wrong? I didn’t think to choose a picture with the English word in it. That’s a clever workaround. I was thinking of trying it again. Do you recommend the app?

@@Tomanita being swiss you should also speak French already should n't you ?
@Tomanita
@Tomanita 3 жыл бұрын
@@stephanestephane4291 No, that's not necessarily true! We start learning French when we're around 10 years old (depends on where you're going to school) but also have to learn English. Some people only have a few years of French (depending on what type of secondary school they chose after middle school). You can imagine that not everyone likes the language and never uses it after they are done with it at school. This is also the case for people who have to learn German or Italian. I guess a lot of people assume that we speak at least two of our national languages, this is unfortunately not true. Or at least not as good as people might think. That being said, I'm at a B2/C1 level, so I speak French but there's room for improvement😊

I feel like the app didn’t have a way to test my knowledge and didn’t allow me to create and learn basic sentences they were all programmed and repetitive

Thanks for sharing your experience! I don't think it's the best app to start learning a new language. If you already know some of it (like basic grammar and vocabulary) it's interesting to learn new words with the app. However, you could use the same technique (learning words with pictures) by using any free flashcard software. I actually don't use the app anymore since my subscription has expired.
