I've always really liked Tonya's skating, she had a presence about her when she skated that made you want to watch her even if you hated her guts, you secretly wanted to see her do well and finally be the skater that always showed so much promise but never quite got to her fullest potential.

I am a Tonya fan. But I am also a Nancy fan. Both of them were, and probably still are, very talented, gifted women. There are suspicions that Tonya had ill will toward Nancy, but as far as any of us know for certain, they are only suspicions. We don't know for sure. I feel bad that Nancy suffered, she is a beautiful skater. I feel bad if Tonya has been wrongfully accused of a crime. We just don't know what really happened. Tonya vehemently denies it, Nancy was hurt, both of them have suffered. But both of them have excelled as well. I just can't help loving both of them, for different reasons. Nancy is gracious and lovely. Tonya a little more blunt. But I like both of those qualities in a person. And both of them are in the very top of our talent pool for skating. After all these years, I still love both of them.

I feel so bad for Tonya Harding. She had a horrible childhood, followed by getting married to a horrible husband, to getting banned from figure skating competitions because of her husband's actions. It gets sadder once you realize no one was at her side of this incident. No one supported her. On a side note: I feel really happy to know that Oksana Baiul won the gold medal at the 1994 Olympics. She was so much more fun to watch compared to Nancy. To that, I thank Jan Hoffmann for giving the deciding vote to Oksana.

Oksana had a lousy skate and added a 2axel+2toe at the last minute to get a combination in her program. But Nancy did a 3Toe+3Toe, and a 3Sal+2Toe..2 combinations and had ZERO 2-foot landings...duh..she was absolutely ROBBED of the gold medal...plain and simple..

Haikal Daniel: I agree with you. At least, she had definitely NOT ENOUGH support then. @to the People here who are of the opinion that Tonya Harding is totally, completely guilty and knew everything: After having a good look at the FACTS (I didn't just watch the movie but read LOTS of articles and watched LOTS of interviews etc.) I'm convinced that Tonya may not have a totally clean slate (she didn't come Forward with the Information at once, thus "hindering the investigations" and beforehand didn't take some VERY vague Statements not seriously... but it's important to consider that she was as well emotionally dependent as afraid of Jeff Gillooly at the time), but she is NOT as guilty as many People want her to be (because it's easier to condemn someone completely than to take a closer look. Also because a celebrity and - gasp - a Woman as the villain made the better (juicier) News Story than her rather nondescript ex-husband or his delusional "Bodyguard" pal would have done). The "hard" evidence against Tonya Harding is actually quite shaky: THis Analysis explains it IMHO well. It does what a defense Team for Tonya would have done if the case had really come to Trial, which it didn't because of the plea deal, which Tonya probably agreed to, because the mere possibility of going to jail must have terrified her... I gathered as much from "The Tonya Tapes") (Yes, it is very Long, but it has to to cover all Points and it's based of the actual files and Information About the case. So, yes, it's a blog post, not a newspaper article, but as it is based on actual files and Reports it is definitely MORE serious and reliable at least than the usual Tabloid newspaper stuff.) edit: it covers Points like the calls to Tony Kent Arena (which virtually can't have been made by Tonya herself, so the part of the note in the garbage bag About the practice times can't have been written by her.It also explains the REAL reason for the disposal of the Garbage bag.) mahonblog.com/b14jan26.htm The life-long ban was totally uncalled for. Compared to other athletes who got in Trouble with the law (e.g. Mike Tyson) it was way too hard (huge double Standard IMHO). About Tonya Saying that she wanted "to Whip Nancy's butt" at the Competition: IMHO that is rather a Point AGAINST Tonya being the mastermind and the one who wanted to assault Nancy. It Shows on the one Hand that she wanted to beat Nancy ON THE ICE, not by unfair means and on the other Hand, Tonya wouldn't have said something provocative like that after the assault happened if she really had been behind it. From all I've seen and heard of her she is NOT stupid.

(edited because of typos) It's funny how People see totally different Things when they are watching the same Video (not only this one… it applies also to all the other stuff like Videos and article About Tonya Harding and the "incident"), depending on their Point of view and especially their personal experiences. When I watch the sequence of Tonya's interview in this Video I DON'T see "shifty eyes" (as a sign for dishonesty) like someone here put it. I see the eyes of someone Standing and Feeling beside herself with the pressure of being questioned once again. She is Kind of staring into space. This is a possible sign of dissociation (the psychological term for this state of "Feeling and Standing beside onesself"). It is very common with People who suffer from Trauma or even states like complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. As I am not a psychiatrist and don't know Tonya Harding in Person of Course I can't diagnose her, but that would be my guess here. I also was abused and later diagnosed with cPTSD and I recognize a lot what I see with Tonya from myself. Also, I showed footage of Tonya (there are other Videos here on youtube, where you can see the same Expression in her eyes: e.g. part 1 of the recent "Truth & Lies" documentary, at the end of the Video you see her with 15, when she is crying with this blank stare, or in "The Tonya Harding Nancy Kerrigan Saga Part 11" when she is sitting in the car.) to my therapist (as Tonya's Story is helping my greatly for Coping with my own) and she is Pretty sure that Tonya Harding Shows unmistakeable signs of psychological Trauma. Which is NO WONDER, considering the abuse Tonya suffered from earliest childhood by her mother and later in her marriage. NO, this is NOT About excuses for everything that went wrong in Tonya Harding's life, but About explanations. It really explains a lot of her "odd" or "shifty" or "bad" behavior. Also the inconsistencies of her statements in interviews. Not everything is necessarily a malicious lie. A patchy Memory (and resulting errors) are normal for traumatized People, when they are under extreme pressure. Btw., when she is reading that Statement in front of the press, you can see that she is extremely tense and shaking. (It is even better to see in the "LaVona Golden/Connie Chung"-interview here on KZbin).

It's interesting--at the end of this video, Tonya asks, "How would I know where [Nancy] even skates?" However, here's an excerpt from a Sports Illustrated article from Feb. 14, 1994: "On Dec. 26 Harding called [journalist Vera Marano], saying she needed to settle a bet. She asked Marano if she could find out where Kerrigan trained and if Kerrigan owned any property on Cape Cod." At the time, Tonya did not deny that. But 4 years later, she's pretending she didn't know where Nancy trained?

The documentary starts with an idea that it is not correct, but that can explain a version of why did the attack happen? the off voice says she got 4th on NHK TROPHY and the same result would get Tony out of Lillehammer, but in Japan 1st was Surya Bonaly from FRANCE, 2nd Yuka Sato from JAPAN and 3rd Chen Lu from CHINA!!! so the idea of take out Nancy because of the result of this trophy is stupid. And more, without Yamaguchi on the team, the best skaters were Tony and Nancy,

I believe that Tonya had a sad and chaotic childhood with no real role models. Nancy isn’t the villain though. She was simply training to be in the Olympics as well. She didn’t ask to be hit and then be scrutinized in every way. There are so many facets to this story but these are two ladies that are forever linked. Nancy isn’t perfect but she has just lived her life and found success in raising her family and supporting the causes she finds important. THarding’s bad childhood and subsequent poor choice of husband does not negate her actions. The reason this story is still intriguing is because Harding is obviously guilty of being a part of the planning but for 25 years continues to deny it. It’s painful to watch over and over in interviews but she’s told herself the same lie for so long she believes it. What a tremendous talent she was at that time. None of that makes Nancy a villain. She’s been a victim from day one and has been forced to make the most of it. I wish THarding would have just been honest from the beginning. I’m glad that both ladies have made a life for themselves.

I wish someone would post Harding's skate from that competition where they said she didn't skate well. After watching this a couple of times, especially the interview, I have to wonder if she isn't some kind of sociopath. When she says she had nothing to do with it, she seems believable. But the evidence is really suspicious. Depressing. I was such a huge fan of hers (and still have great respect for her talent).

Idk, if "sociopath" can be defined as someone who will initially lie about being involved with something, then after the fact realizing the permanent repercussions the revelation of this initial lie would have, and feeling the need to further cover up the initial lie, and pretty much force oneself to believe the lie they're telling... That's not a sociopath, I think that's a person who's well aware of what they've gone wrong and is absolutely terrified of being being found out. Whatever tonya has or hasn't done, she's lead a mentally exhausting life for close to 3 decades (at least, let's not forget her abusive upbringing), not to mention the national scrutiny and humiliation, the professional shunning... sociopath? No, I don't think so. Maybe finally the woman be so she can finally heal from a huge mistake? Please, let's do so.

The "hubcap incident": Tonya Harding's Version of this (According to "The Tonya Tapes": They had a drunken row (in her case an antidepressant + a moderate amount of alcohol and she reacted badly to the mix). He insulted her and said stupid stuff like that his motorbike was more important to him like she was. She got mad and threw the hubcap at his motorbike and HE threw hisself in between to protect his precious bike. Then he pinned her to the Ground and she punched him ONCE in the face to get herself free. But some pals of his testified against her and he sold the Story to the Tabloids, where a manipulated photo was published on which he looked really beaten up. I believe Tonya's Version of this. (There was evidence that the photo was manipulated to make her then-boyfriend look really battered. And, at the time the first interview About the "hubcap incident" was made for "The Tonya Tapes", Tonya still seemed to be loyal to her then-boyfriend, although he had sold her to the Tabloids). NO, I DON'T think she is an angel and I am NOT gullible and naive, I just choose to take a closer look at everything regarding her case. Amazing that the suggestion of her guilt was aired on TV, thats so unfair. Knowing what we know now about her partner and this clown of a friend, a man who just lives in a fantasy world all the time and lies so very easily, I wouldn't believe what EITHER of these men said for one second. Her ex husband is as crooked as they come, If you search on here you can see him talking to the press when he was "signing himself in" to the police, he talks about how Tonya was in charge in the home , he was a dangerous controlling horrible man. I don't think there was that much to Tonya at the time, she loved to skate and it completely enveloped her, she was very young, very naive and when one hears her mother talking it is no wonder. The new movie about her will finally shine some light on all thisI would guess and about time too, I hope she is at very least understood for the first time and can now get some of the love and respect she missed then and truly deserves now.

What’s so funny about this whole thing is that I drive by the Kent arena ALL THE TIME on my way to the store or the dump down the street. My family has a cape house that’s about a 1 minute drive up the road. I rode by it dozens of times as a kid when all of this stuff was going on. And never once had any...idea...whatsoever....that it was so central to all of this nonsense. As a matter of fact, whenever driving by, my main thought was always “How does that place stay open? There never seems to be anyone around”. Then all of the sudden while watching a story on this earlier today, someone said “he parked at the Kent Arena in South Dennis” and my brain almost short circuited....

This is the best clip I’ve seen about the case against her. Handwriting is more conclusive as finger prints by experts. And yet here she is lying that it wasn’t her writing. She’d be better off saying she was interested in getting her autograph for her niece, and wanted to send someone down to autograph a photo. Either way, I’m still a fan of someone who put in a lot of hard work and rose to the top of skating the hard way. She was young and made a bad decision. She paid a heavy price for it too. I wish her the best and I think after some time she should have been allowed to skate at sanctioned events

This is by far the best words, much respect, it’s sincere. And you know something, Jesus can read hearts and knows every true condition of the heart. That’s what the ransom is for, Jesus came to set us free from sin.

It's so easy to forge some else's handwriting. Just find some stuff they wrote down and trace the letters to form the "piece of evidence"

The "hard" evidence against Tonya Harding (INCLUDING the written note with supposedly her handwriting) is actually quite shaky: THis Analysis explains it IMHO well. So, yes, it's a blog post, not a newspaper article, but as it is based on actual files and Reports it is definitely MORE serious and reliable at least than the usual Tabloid newspaper stuff.) edit: it covers Points like the calls to Tony Kent Arena (which virtually can't have been made by Tonya herself, so the part of the note in the garbage bag About the practice times can't have been written by her.It also explains the REAL reason for the disposal of the Garbage bag.) And it's NOT clear that the whole note was written in her handwriting. That applies only for the part with the name of "Tony Kent Arena" (and Tonya never denied making this call, but as it Looks, NOT with Knowledge of the plot). mahonblog.com/b14jan26.htm

Her handwriting or not doesn’t prove she PLANNED to have Nancy attacked, none of us were there at the time so we will never know, but Jeff gilooly is not a reliable source, he had the attack played out with his friend Shawn and then points fingers at Tonya when it went awry, he also has been arrested multiple times in recent years for domestic violence lol so not a reliable guy

It explains also that the ONLY part of the note that was DEFINITELY in her handwriting was the name of the "Tony Kent Arena" and she diodn't deny making that call (obtaining the name), but that doesn't prove that she was in on the plot. mahonblog.com/b14jan26.htm And as to "sociopath": As we aren not psychiatrists (at least I am not, is there anybody here?) and don't know Tonya Harding in Person, we can't diagnose her. But my GUESS, just a guess here would not be "sociopath" but "complex post traumatic stress disorder". I was also abused and I recognize many signs. Also I showed many Videos of Tonya to my therapist (because Tonya Hardings Story helps be to cope with my own) and she is Pretty sure About it.

Instead, she continues to lie to this day, allowing those she hired to do her dirty work to take the fall. Talk about a narcissistic, cruel human being.Since even serial child rapists and murderers have supporters, it doesn't surprise me that Tonya still gets fan mail, and "we support you" crap. What a great role-model she is, huh. Kerrigan is no angel either, and her personality seems very aloof and off putting, but Tonya's behavior is beyond despicable, and spare me the "abusive husband" crap.
