About the "Jazzmaster." I'd bet money that it's just some old Harmony or Teisco guitar body that they routed for a Strat input jack. There's no way in hell it's a prototype Jazzmaster, and even if it was, it wouldn't go for that price for just the body. An original prototype Jazzmaster was up for sale by Norman's Rare Guitars sold it for $100,000. And it was complete and in working condition, and came with a letter of authenticity from Freddie Tavares, the guy who designed a lot of Fender's guitars. So, this unidentified guitar body who's source of authenticity is some guy who says his uncle found it certainly isn't gonna go for two and a half times that price unless Joe Bonamassa starts huffing paint.

Re the Jazzmaster. Sounds a bit nit-picky, but having "providence" (care provided by a deity) is NOT the same as having "provenance" (origin or earliest known history). For a quarter mil, the seller ought to be able to get that part right. Cheers....

I once had my phone autocorrect me from “provenance” to “providence”. To disastrous results! Here’s what happened: I was trying to buy one of Lisa Kudrow’s guitars from the set of “Friends” and this guy who worked in props, had a glossy red j-45. And I was like “Well…she played a matte burgundy Gibson Gospel”. So I figured that he was completely full of it, or it just sat back there, and she never even picked it up. And the whole point was that I wanted something that was on the show… However years later I was re-watching the series and noticed…there is one scene… Where she’s recording “Smelly cat”…And she’s given a glossy. Red. J-45! It was identical. Not saying it was for certain the same guitar. But, in all likelihood. It was. Anyways. My point, is that I misspelled a very important word. And the seller thought I was so. Dumb. That he simply stopped replying to me after telling me he had some “provenance” from working on set. But he really hit that PROVENANCE hard in his reply. I lost out on really cool guitar with a fun history (actually a steal of a deal too. He wasn’t really asking a premium for the guitar. Maybe 1-200 dollars more than a used j-45 would cost in about 2013) and from that day on, I learned, to always double check my spelling. Yes. My punctuation is erratic and reads like Shatner speaks. But I always double, and triple check my spelling. That guitar. Haunts me.

Thank for including my Painted Over collection Fluff ❤ For those of you more interested in it the Reverb listing has a lot of details about them and how rare they are. Funny thing is I had just uploaded a KZbin video of the collection the night before Fluff's video was released. Great timing! As many of you pointed out about Reverb's offer system, it is based on a percentage of the full price and in most cases the seller would not take the lowest offer allowed 😊 Love this segment of your channel Fluff, thanks again and Happy New Year to everyone!

If you live in Germany and you are screwed over with fees you still won’t pay more than 2k altogether to get that guitar from fender to germany. Selling it for over 7k is absolutely insane. That bing said the real skystang did not sell for 4 million, it sold for around 1.5 million. His electric acoustic Gibson sold for 4 million.

@barefootnblues11 ай бұрын
Reverb is Reverb. We (musicians and collectors) are the ones creating crazy prices. Sometime ago used gear changed into vintage gear. Vintage is reference to age only and nothing else and suddenly this lore grew about certain guitars and the magic they have. Guitars from the 50s and 60s, specifically Gibsons and Fenders varied from one another , specifically electronics. Pick ups could be different from day to day depending on who was wrapping wire that day and kind of day they were having. Some pups got overwound, some underwound hence, one 56 Fender had the magic and another sounded like a dog. Now anything used suddenly came with a premium price. Combine that with the obsessive search for "that" tone creates an overvalued market. We need to collectively get a grip and stop this nonsense. Prices should be dictated by quality of materials in the build. "Vintage" Fender gear used the cheapest, most available parts they could obtain. Gibson still had some artistry but also suffered from the same inconsistency of the time period. Ok, I'm done with my morning rant. Peace all.

A Jazzmaster prototype with a body very similar to the one in the listing does appear in the 50's Fender factory tour video mentioned, it seems to have had some prototype 7 pole Jazzmaster pickups. And Leo definitely tinkered around with very crude prototypes like pickups hardware and neck mounted on some planks just to tinker with the electronics, so I'd say the one in the listing is likely the real deal but no way to know for sure without authentication from Fender. Even if real 250k sounds like a LOOOOT tho

Even if Leo himself confirmed this... 1/4 mill for that useless POS? it's bonkers
@knives_on_static Жыл бұрын
I was taking a look at the video. The dog ear P90s check out. It actually had some weird type of P90 with magnets not aligning with the strings to have a more mellow jazz sound. I'm guessing it would be considered out of phase? The thing is, The pickguard shape is different and the body shape seems slightly off. I think its more likely a teisco or 60s japanese guitar body. those weird offsets that sort of took inspiration from fender
@MK-1010 Жыл бұрын
What kind of paint job is that supposed to be? Looks like a burst that got rubbed, or smeared before it dried. And didn't it come out around '65? Seems like a long time to have a guitar in development.
@Snandra66 Жыл бұрын
@@knives_on_static Never seen a Teisco or any other Japanese guitar of the era that looks like that, and I've seen quite a few. I think more likely it's a different prototype than the exact one in the factory tour video, or it was heavily modified due to Leo tinkering around with it (if we are to assume it is authentic to begin with). I don't quite understand why you'd say the position of the pole pieces would make it out of phase, and "out of phase" in guitar electronics is generally the absolute opposite of mellow and jazzy, it's pretty thin and snappy.
@Snandra66 Жыл бұрын
@@MK-1010 A poor one, I mean the story is that it's an early prototype so I don't think they'd care too much about a proper finish job. The Jazzmaster went into full production in 1959 (some examples made in '58 for NAMM and other exhibition purposes), not sure where you got 1965 from.
