Today's video, which should have been up yesterday, is a fluid wine hot process soap. Hot process soap is something I don't do as often as cold process, but this was a Sudser request, so we are gonna do the damn thing and talk about it.
We will be adding wine after the cook to help loosen the batter and make it pourable. Kinda.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

I usually add SL and yogurt after the cook to add some fluidity to the soap but after watching this video I decided to do a 55/45 split of the liquid and the results worked out great. Thanks for the recommendation!

How come the yogurt doesn’t go bad when it’s added after the saponification has already occurred? 😯 Like, in a milk soap the fats are being taken up by the lye but if the lye has already done its thing with the fats in the oil... the yogurt would be left intact essentially?

@@katelillo1932 - Because of the soap's PH level which is usually between 8.5 to 10 which does not support bacteria.

So pretty!! Hot process always seemed intimidating to me. Only tried cold process once. Not the cpop way though. May have to try both those. See which of the 3 ways feels most comfortable. I love watching your videos. Thanks for sharing.

I have a weird question… could you use alcohol like our beer and wines and white claw in our CP soaps this way? Like how we put milk in our oils and not the lye solution? I’ve always wondered that and have never seen anyone do that. Would that work???
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay Ай бұрын
Hey! I’ve done white claw soaps on the channel, but as a portion of the lye water. You can add more fluid after trace to CP as well. Alcohol at that point does lengthen the “crystalline structure”, making it closer to a melt and pour base.

hot process has always weirded me out. It has to cool down to add my smelly goods because of low flash points but by then gets so thick that I'm not even spooning it i literally use my hand. Then its all crumbly and gross looking. It's past the point of rustic... Hot process is the only way that I deal with rose smells and for when I specifically want the bar to look rustic. I'm gonna give this a go. See how it works out. I'll probably drop you an email so you can take a look at it when it's done.

I’m dying over here! I did this method but with red wine. It looks just like hamburger meat!🤣. I made a patty with the scrapings from the crock pot and I also have a whole meatloaf! Probably because this is April Fools Day!

I always forget you use powdered sugar. I have been putting sugar and salt in my oils while they’re melting. I wonder if it is as effective?
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay Жыл бұрын
Hey! Sugar in any form (granulated, powder, raw, in alcohols or purées) will have the same effect on the finished soap. The difference is really in the ease of incorporating into the batter.

Is the fragrance stronger in hp rather than cp?
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! It can be - a hot process method can be used for the lighter scents that don’t survive saponification well; since you’re adding it after saponification is complete, or close to, it’s more likely to stick and also tend to use less. :)

@@MrsSoapAndClay great thanks, I’m going to give it a whirl. Can I also ask what does the sugar in with the lye do?
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay 3 жыл бұрын
So this is one of the few old wives tales that I’ve sort of bought into without really researching the why, and it’s really because one of the first people that I made hot process with told me to do it. She claimed (as have other, known soapmakers since) that it extends the fluid working time. So I always add it to my HP, though it doesn’t make much sense to me as to WHY it’s thought to keep the batter fluid longer. Because it’s a sugar. That said, I’ve never had a failed batch of HP, and sugar IS known to increase lather in the finished product, so that’s one known reason to use it. 😂
