#winesoap #soaprecipe #60
Today is an ugly batch of soap, that I turn beautiful, because it's easy to fix most problems in the soap world. It's also a recipe day, but don't let my ugly soap deter you; the recipe itself is good but the type of wine I used is not so much. The reason why I published this is because I realized while making this that it's very likely most people that make wine soaps for the very first time, likely use white wine for their very first batch. And sometimes this can happen.
Make it, let me know how you like it, all of the the things!

Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

I absolutely love how they turned out. Ohhhh and when the bar was wet for the bubble display was just enchanting. My first wine soap experience was a trip for sure (and thankfully decades ago because I panicked and seriously blistered lol).

I love mess up videos because I like seeing how to deal with or fix the mess up. Hopefully I'll remember to not panic when I get to a wine soap! It's on my list of things to make.

Super cool bar. Rustic is never a fail. Thanks for this. Not ready to try any alcohol yet. Still not confident enough but I will sure save this one for when I am.

BEAUTIFUL!!!! I have a wine that I'm not too fond of... guess where it's gonna go? YEP... in soap!!! I'll no longer worry about a waste of buying a wine I don't like, put it in soap, problem solved!! Thanks for this video!!

My first wine soap was made with merlot, and I had no issues. The batter was a pink shade so I went with pink micas to avoid getting muddy colors. I've had a bottle of white wine on the shelf waiting for me to remember to use it, so I guess we'll find out if I get clumps :) My recipe is similar to yours, except I have a higher ratio of olive oil. I'm curious to see if that has any effect. I wouldn't consider a rustic-looking soap to be a fail, at least your oils didn't separate and you weren't left with soapy goo after saponification ;)

Oh good! I was planning on using red wine for my first wine soap. I'll use a dry one. Thank you! ♥Do you stir let the beer get flat before soaping with it? Looking forward to that video, too. And Ma'am, your lipstick is Fab-U-Lous

I let the beer go flat if I have time. Which is to say, I very rarely let the beer go flat. 😂

Oh god, I've only attempted a wine soap once. I didn't make it past the lye solution. Boiled over, went everywhere, stunk up my garage for a while, it was a whole thing. My impatient ass didn't freeze the wine, just refrigerated it, spaced out while pouring the lye in, and poured too much lye in at once.

Gorgeous. Can I use stale wine? Like, my husband didn't like it and left it on the counter for a week. I love this soap. My experience with this type of accelerating and ricing is that swirls are my friend. Thank you! This was awesome sauce.

You can totally use them! Anything older than a few weeks I would be careful of though - if it starts to smell vinegary then you should pbly toss.

You are a smart cookie. I listen closely to your talking. I have to know what is see pop? Is that another name you’re using for saponification?

I must say though, my first batch of hot process soap didn’t turn out as I added 4 oils, coconut, castor, olive and sweet almond as well as vodka, sugar, water and glycerin and it got stuck in the silicone mould and was very soft, like soap dough. I have since found out, if I had added salt and discounted the water and could also put it in the freezer, it would have come out of the mould. 😬

So the intro had something to do with the pour today. I am shooketh!! ;P Because when does it ever? Today apparently. This was neat. I've done bourbon soap but not beer or wine. Or cider. Have you done cider soap? Have you noticed if sweet vs dry cider has the same problem with ricing and acceleration? Cause I could see myself doing cider. I can drink the leftovers. I won't drink the leftover beer or wine if I did that... >_> Have you tried doing a half and half frozen and liquid wine to see if it reduces or prevents those weird sediment crystals things you get? I do half and half with my water to cut down on the fumes when mixing my lye cause those bug me. >_> And so I wonder if it helps with boozey soaps now.

Sweet ciders definitely accelerate! Cider sounds good right now. I have had success with half ice and half liquid for sure! Tomorrow I’ll be back to my regularly scheduled random streams of consciousness. 😜

@@MrsSoapAndClay Sad about sweet ciders... or maybe not. Because this means more Marionberry cider in me than in my soap. ;P But I can look for a good dry cider if I ever do. I enjoy those too.
