I used one and flushed one time, then pulled up the toilet to look - the sponge material on the bottom of the seal (the side that is pressing against the flange) had gotten damp and was separating from the rubber. The glue that holds it on didn't hold up. That was after just one flush. I made a video about it and one of the comments on my video said that he used it and it started leaking after 1 1/5 years. He thought the rubber sleeve that cups against the toilet had loosened over time. I hate wax, but at least it lasts pretty much forever.

Replaced the "new" Gerber toilet in the main batheroom that the previous owner had installed when they renovated a couple years ago (it was terrible, constantly clogged, had no flush power at all) with an American Standard Champion 4 and low and behold they used one of these! I was so happy when I saw that I wasn't going to have to clean up that atrocious wax mess and it made it so much quicker. Love these things and recommend everyone use one because even if it does leak eventually replacing it takes 1/10th the time of having to replace a wax seal. *A quick note: If you have a flange that sits more than 1/4" below your floor you will need 2 of these kits because you will need 2 spacers. If you do not know the depth of your flange before hand definitely buy two of these. Much better to have to return an unused seal than to be stuck with no toilet while you rush to find another one!
@Housebarons4 жыл бұрын
Hi PsychoCPU, we have been very pleased with the Fluidmaster Toilet Seals. The flange spacers are sold in most hardware stores as stand alone parts, so you won't have to buy 2 complete kits. @@brooksideswingerz1287 What you wrote did not make any sense. What 'PH' suggested does make sense, because when you pull a toilet where you have used this product, the Fluidmaster Toilet Seal, you can see that the waste was working its way between the toilet bottom and the seal. It may eventually leak. Putting rubber cement, or a smear of wax, on the contact surfaces may be a good idea. Pressure alone may not be enough to keep your feet dry. As far as 'PH' comment about allowing for fine adjustment, I don't understand. I would not want to fool around with a glued junction, it could distort the ring.

Do you recommend to caulk seal between the floor and bottom of the toilet bowl?
@Housebarons4 жыл бұрын
Hey Macoy, After the toilet is put in place, you could caulk around the base for a more finished look. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
@robertshorthill68362 жыл бұрын
macoy321. I'm told by some to not caulk around the toilet/floor joint. A slight leak over time could cause damage, I guess is the reason. A lot of new installs are getting away from wax seals. One only has one shot at getting it right the first time. I don't like the odds. Bob

so did it hold up, never leaked? i know wax rings annoying, but if u do it right they dont leak, not sure i can say that yet abot a fluidmaster?

@Housebarons4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tommy, sorry to hear that you had a leak after the install. That hasn't happened in our projects yet. Fluidmaster makes 3 sizes of this toilet seal product. Maybe a different size would stop the leak. We found all 3 sizes at our local Menards. Good luck!

Do you think wiping this seal with some plumber's grease or even old school wax would help with a good seal and maybe make it last longer? I have wax seals as a backup for the job. Thought maybe wiping some wax all over this fluidmaster might make it even better.
@Housebarons4 жыл бұрын
Hey Scott, I would leave the seal as is. I’m sure their R&D Dept tried all kinds of variations before they landed on that one. I bet it is long lasting as is. Thx for watching!

How about a little liquid soap on the rubber flange before installing the toilet. So it slips on to the flange easily?
@79brumley2 жыл бұрын
A good tip is to apply some silicone grease to the top of the rubber seal, It really helps the seal and keeps the rubber from dry rotting.

I installed a toilet with the flange even with the floor. I'm nervous because using the extra spacer was WAY too high for the toilet to sit properly, but I'm not confident that just the main ring by itself sealed properly.
@davidbach70034 жыл бұрын
Mine leaked with the basic ring. I added the spacer, and it was about a quarter inch off the floor. Should have a half spacer.

@Housebarons4 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe Bot, at our Menards store they have Fluidmasters that come in 3 different sizes, so we are pretty sure they have one to fit almost every toilet. We would try another size, if that doesn't work, call Fluidmaster and ask what they suggest to do. Let us know how it works out. Good luck!

just tried using that with a Toto Drake toilet, doesn't fit, could not level the toilet, it sits too high with the Oatey plastic flange on top of the finished floor.

Hi Yevgeni, Fluidmaster makes 3 sizes of toilet seals. We found all 3 at Menards. Maybe another size will work for you. There are different size flanges also available at the hardware store. Perhaps a thinner flange will solve your problem. Hope this helps!

Hi Cynthia, we agree, it is very disappointing that the Fluidmaster toilet seal didn't fit. We buy them at Menards and they have 3 sizes available. Maybe a different sized Fluidmaster seal would have worked. Good luck with your future DIY repairs!

Obviously it does, but I don't understand how this can seal out the water when flushing. I understand that a toilet flushing is not high pressure, but still, I don't get it 🤔
@Housebarons8 ай бұрын
Water leaves the toilet by gravity - just falls down the drain like a glass pouring water. Not really ‘under pressure’ Thx for watching!
@alrealiuyi10 ай бұрын
It said on the box it "Fits any toilet, any drain," but it didn't fit mine. I had replaced the flange with a 3 in. PVC "Twist-N-Set" flange, which fits down into the 3" drain pipe, and it is smaller than 3" inside diameter. The blue rubber funnel just would not fit into this smaller flange. I found a different product by Korky that is very similar, and that looks like it should work.
@craftpaint16442 жыл бұрын
Best method I've seen for plugging a open toilet flange is a 44oz styrofoam cup. 👩🔧 Edit: O-Ring grease like that used on water filters is a sticky/tacky option for the desperately nervous folk that think gluing the seal is their only hope.

When i got ready to place the toilet down on the seal i now have some wobble because the toilet is not flush on the floor. What do i need to do for a remedy?
@Housebarons4 жыл бұрын
Hey Bobby, It all depends on how bad the wobble is. I believe they make those fluid master rings in different heights. So you could get one that is not quite as high. If its a very slight wobble, maybe a well placed shim or two will stop the wobble. It’s not uncommon for tile floors being slightly out of true and require shims. Kind of a judgement call you’ll have to make. Hope that helps. Thx for asking.
