There’s something so otherworldly about this. It’s like an extra-dimensional form of communication.

I guess it’s just something you’ve never heard before or something you don’t hear often.. doesn’t mean it’s unworldly or beyond 3 dimensions.. but I know where you’re coming from lol

Having explored sound both acoustically and electronically for over 40 years a flumi mallet on a large gong must be the most atmospheric and mesmerizing of all.. like a whale calling out as a star prepares to go nova , how is that for a mixed metaphor?
@TheToneoflife5 жыл бұрын
It is sort of analog sound that I describe in the very same way , whale calling .... for Paikea in the present time :)

It reminds of when the kids on South Park hired a rocket owned by Mexico to drop a whale off on the moon.

I didn’t even know this world existed, I just stumbled on to it. But I must say, these sounds are other worldly . I will keep listening to see if I am going to like it.

Thanks Kev for the compliment! I really enjoyed playing. It was during my trip to the workshop where we are currently producing a new range of silvernickel Gongs, like the Maitreya Peace Gongs, specifically for Healing. The small Gong on the right is the 31" Water Gong... She sounds beautiful and touches deep on the subtle emotions. I can't wait to play the others :-)

I'd love to hear what that 80" would sound like inside of a 100 year old concrete block farm silo. I was at a family reunion a couple years ago held in an old farmhouse and a few of us were singing inside of one that had no roof. It was fantastic. You'd have to lower that 80" into one of those old silos with a crane though. I haven't found any videos of anyone attempting this feat yet though.

YES, this is one of the most beautiful gong performances out here on youtube. I lay down on the bed and closed my eyes and followed these cosmos journey. I've been exploring the gong world for a few months now and I'm thinking about getting a Tone of Life gong (30" max size due to limited budget). I love the sounds produced by flumies. Can you tell me if there is some gong more appropriate to it? Flat surface, thin or thick gong one? Any other advice/tips are welcome. Thank you

Hi, just a suggestion. Please upload your videos into music category. A lot of videos don’t play in “KZbin music” app, because they are not kept in music category. That’s what I mostly use, rather than just youtube full of ads and other distractions. Thanks for this video. 😊

lovely, i feel like, 300 years from now gongs will be universally heralded for their therapeutic powers; chilling with a gong will be as common for mental health maintenance as brushing your teeth is for your physical body.

What brand and model of flumies do you recommend / are using here? I got some Meinl ones and they're not a 'smooth' rubber. It seems to make them bounce and harder to use in circles. Maybe I'm just not good enough at playing yet though...! Using it on a 38" Paiste symphonic.

Pity about the sound clipping later in the piece. So hard to find recordings that have the proper dynamic range.

I really enjoyed this video. I'm quickly becoming obsessed with gongs and this is one of the nicer videos I've found of just nice gong playing, but I couldn't help noticing that the gong sizes mentioned in the video title seem to be off. The biggest gong appears to be a 60", not an 80", unless the gong player is quite a bit larger than the average person.
@TheToneoflife6 жыл бұрын
Hi Christopher :) the biggest gong on video is 80" Symphonic one of the the first 80"made by Paiste. On the left side is 60" and 42" Earth and on the right 30" She Moon. Person playing on the them is tall 193cm.
