Most sci-fi soundtracks that accompany the stories that touch the same subjects as IXION go with the overly dramatic, the solemn, the grandiose. That can be fine, but when everyone's doing it, it starts feeling like well-trodden ground. The safe route, if you will. We've heard it with Hans Zimmer, Max Richter, Ramin Djawadi, James Horner, Michael Giacchino, and a looong list of others that use the same ol' reliable tools to accompany sci-fi tales. However, Guillaume David, with IXION's soundtrack, feels like he's singing the praises of a facet of humanity that not often receives aural attention: its industriousness and resilience. More often than not, when those themes arise in media, they are accompanied by the epic sounds typical of a grand goal, or the dramatic undertones typical of a tragedy that tests our resolve. IXION's soundtrack, instead (and of course, appropriately given the type of game it is), appropriately musicalizes the immense industriousness, resilience, ingenuity, and sacrifice that is involved in the day to day life of a space station. How what everything with take for granted and oftentimes boring becomes heroic when set in outer space. It's a wonderful soundtrack because it underlines the bravery of the mundane, and the determination of pushing through routine. It warms up what would normally be very distant and rote proceedings by infusing it with humanity's hopes and dreams. It's a wonderful mixture between electronic and organic, massive synths supporting ethereal choirs and ethnic drums. Humanity surviving so far from Earth through sheer willpower. Guillaume David did it again. We all know how Mechanicus is great, it's been discussed at length. But IXION proves that David has a knack to strike the chord (haha) that perfectly encapsulates the media that has the privilege to have one of his soundtracks accompanying it. It's refreshing, it's moving, it's absolutely magnificent.

Amidst the prevailing expanse of sci-fi soundtracks steeped in the dramatic and grandiose, Guillaume David's musical opus in IXION stands as a beacon of innovation, embracing humanity's industriousness and resilience with captivating artistry. Departing from the well-trodden path, IXION's composition deftly captures the extraordinary within the ordinary, breathing life into the day-to-day struggles and triumphs of a space station. In a symphonic celebration, the soundtrack elevates the seemingly mundane to heroic heights, infusing routine proceedings with humanity's hopes and dreams. The exquisite blend of electronic and organic elements, ethereal choirs, and ethnic drums creates an evocative tapestry, immersing listeners in the journey of human survival far from Earth's embrace. Guillaume David's mastery is unmistakable, as IXION stands as a testament to his uncanny ability to strike the perfect chord that resonates with media privileged to bear his musical legacy. Refreshing, moving, and absolutely magnificent, IXION enlivens the spirit, evoking a profound connection with the essence of our humanity.

Words can't express just how much I love this OST - it is perfect for space and this game I wish the game had a loop music setting to just keep playing tracks

Amazing work by Guillaume. This is one of the few games I keep the music track on, rather than muting it for my own.

Is this god of a man even able to compose something that does not make sweet love to my ears?

look I know next to nothing on how music is made and stuff, but I never could escape the feeling that many...mixes like, cyberpunk, ambient, space exploration and such sort of meander around, a mute fluff that solely exists to occupy the ossicular bones of a person. Its forgettable, meaningless almost. But this This feels different, by itself it almost has a story to tell. The bold usage of many different instruments gives each and every single track the power many of the aforementioned stuff I heard could only dream of. Man I wish the music KZbin shoved in my face all had such power behind them.

Well this is about half the reason I was excited for Ixion - and it's great - so I can only hope that other 50% isn't disappointing.

Never been so glad to find out about a game so late. I don't think I'd be able to survive the suspense for a whole year.

It's haunting. There's this massive tension between intrepid optimism and dire pessimism coded into that motif we get in the first minute. The rest of the piece just expands on that. Which makes sense since the core theme to the game is "We're gonna save humanity, but we're probably going to die trying."
