IMPORTANT CORRECTION: Since posting this video I have been made aware that it is actually Manganese in the glass that is fluorescent, not Uranium! Uranium glass is also fluorescent, but would have the green color even without the UV light. Sorry about that y'all, but I'm glad we were all able to learn that! Today's video is definitely a little different in some ways. I hunted a creek which is to be expected, but I also took a detour to a historic bath house that I wanted to share with you, and I showed some of the fluorescent bottles I have found. Let me know down below if you guys enjoyed today's video! I would like to incorporate more exploration of historic places like the bath house in videos.

The glass that contains uranium is referred to as Vaseline glass. When not subjected to UV/blacklight, it has a yellowish green appearance.

I'm relieved it's Manganese, not uranium! The latter has a radioactive shelf life of, oh, just a few million years! Thank you for the historical site tour, and for pausing on the signs so that they were readable! There are a lot of historical bath towns in Europe; Bath, in England, is probably the most famous as a Roman bathing spa town. "Drinking the waters" was popular up through the late 18th or early 19th centuries as a medical treatment. And I can tell you from personal experience, drinking that water tastes like drinking lukewarm rusty ironing water. :-P We also have a Roman bathing town here in Switzerland, called Baden (which, not very original of the Romans, means "Bath"!). Stay safe!

I loved seeing the historic bath house and enjoy the bottle collecting. Basically, take me into nature in Florida and I'm happy. Fossil hunting, I think, will always be my favorite. Also, I love a good thunderstorm...perfect laying by a window and dozing. Not so much being caught outside in it. I will stay in the pool if it rains but not if the thunder and lightning gets bad. I have been caught in summer thunderstorms on the Itchetucknee, more than once. Scary.

Kyle, as a child spending a few summers at a mineral springs resort in Northern California (Deerlick Springs). I would see a couple hundred people a season, some in wheelchairs, crippled up with arthritis, gout and so many other ailments, that would go there and spend some time soaking in the mineral water as well as drinking it, leaving a few weeks later, not needing the aid of a wheelchair or walker, also lost weight, healed up and seemingly several years younger. Having been a witness to the healing experiences of mineral water, I stand behind the healing properties of mineral spring water.

I just found a doctor Kilmer’s Swamp root bottle a couple of days ago. In the Indian River Lagoon. I wish I could post a pic of it. Totally intact. Beautiful. Also, regarding bottles with manganese- manganese was put in the glass to make it clear. Ironically, after decades in the sun, the glass will turn purple. I have about a dozen of them. I left them out in my yard, even for a whole year, and they are even more purple now. I even have a small manganese inkwell from the 1800s. Nice purple tint with bubbles. That’s a nice creek you’re hunting.

Kyle, I think there was another error in the video. The "clover" you came across may actually be wood sorrel, which is often mistaken for clover. It is also known as sour grass. The leaves, flowers and seed pods may be eaten in salad or cooked, but only use the young parts. It is tart and delicious in salad. It is loaded with vitamin C and oxalic acid. Love the videos. Thanks for being such a trooper!

WHY would uranium be put in glass⁉️😱💥
@superdave548114 жыл бұрын
Uranium oxide was used to color the glass to give it a slight yellow/green hue and glows green under UV light. Manganese oxide was also used to give glass a slight purple hue in sunlight and glows yellow in UV light. Very little of either was used in the glass making process. The Uranium glass is slightly radioactive, but only slightly. I would not keep in in close contact for extended periods of time.
