Thank you for this video now I see why these older printer cartridges need to be flushed so they work like new ones because if you don't you have build up inside.

You're welcome... In terms of rational it also helps clear out any dried deposits and the same process can be used to reprime a cartridge with a new refill ink and flush out any water or old ink type. We'll be doing a new video on that in due course though...

I really need to do an update of this video for this and other printers but thanks, glad it covered the basics there for you.

Also, open factory fill hole during purge so the waste ink goes out of there instead of being sucked back through the sponge.

+Raver Meister That's an approach that also works but, as shown, when you're trying to vacuum out the contents of the sponge, having that hole sealed is necessary. Of course you can easily open the hole up and then reseal it using a plug.

Why all this trouble of cleaning out if your going to refill with the same colour ink ??
@octoinkjet7 жыл бұрын
The flushing process pushes any dried deposits out of the sponge and helps re-establish ink flow but there are other reasons such as ensuring the new ink isn't contaminated with the old type for purposes of colour profiling or daft stuff like filling a cartridge with the wrong ink (eg: Light Magenta instead of Magenta...). Really the video is just a "How to.." guide for when someone realises they really could do with the information for whatever reason.

If you have a Pro-100 (CLI-42 cartridges) and want to flush then this guide... www.octoink.co.uk/kb/questions/191/ ...is worth checking BEFORE you consider flushing as it helps avoid the dreaded yellow jello issue caused by some third party inks (or flushing with water).

octoinkjet You start off using distilled water and then use tap water for the flush
@octoinkjet9 жыл бұрын
Alan Clough Hi Alan, You're right... I completely missed that I'd switched at around 5:54 onwards. So, to clarify, best practice is to use distilled water as it doesn't contain any minerals or other junk that often comes with tap water. You can flush with tap water if you're not in a hard water area but it's always a good idea to flush with distilled water a couple of times at the end to get rid of any crud. Classic case of do as I say, not as I do... Thanks for catching it
