Great job, I will be implementing your "diffuser" technique to make my 9gal Flex Tank Betta friendly!

The problem with the flex 15 is the shrimp can still get into the compartments even with filters in the outlets. Added 12 small cherry shrimp and several ended up back compartment. They’re either sneaking through the side gaps of the outlets or climbing through the small gap at the top between the lid and the plastic barrier.

I’ve had mine running for about 9 months and I’ve had shrimp(crystal reds) , they seem to be doing perfectly fine and they have started breeding , if you are worried about the baby shrimps getting sucked up they won’t trust me my baby crystal reds have all stayed alive and haven’t gotten trapped inside the filter at all

Hi! I have the 2.6 gallon version and it has a little inlet and im worried about it sucking in my baby shrimp, could I put another sponge over the water inlet near the bottom of the tank to help not suck in the babies? Sorry for the super late response but I just need help lol.

Shrimp have no problem with this tank or the flow with stock parts. They do not flip put, they are actually really good swimmers. So who told you shrimp do not like flow?
@TroutFink5 жыл бұрын
Good video. ...BUT If you’re slowing the current by blocking it with media it’s no more effective if you have a valve that restricts the flow. You’re still slowing your cycle rate regardless of how you block the water. I prefer the valve because it’s more effective to oxygenate the water through the surface
@michaelfox68203 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you are right. The filter diffuser does more than just redistribute the outflow. It also resists the flow, cutting down the rate. Is that harmful? I don't think so. The stock pump for the Fluval Flex 9 circulates 113 gallons/hr, which means that it turns over the water in the aquarium approximately 12 times per hour. Does one really need that rate of turnover?
@TroutFink3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelfox6820 higher the turnover = better the filtering. But it comes to down oxygen. I prefer all of my tanks to have as much oxygenated water as possible. Having water reach into the air breaking the water surface provides more than just capping off the outlet with a filter. Not saying it can’t be done both ways, but that’s just my preference

Why didn't you just get a fluval pre filter sponge? They're perfect for this and are also black so not as unsightly.
@jeremy9235 жыл бұрын
Oh wow I never saw those, but now that I look them up I think when my current ones need replacing I will purchase those and they'll blend in much better like you said, thank you!

Where’s part 2?
@jeremy9236 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin14k, I haven't filmed part 2 yet because I've been waiting on some new parts and also inspiration for my tank design though I am just about ready to start filming so it should be up in a couple weeks.
