Don’t get too specific but was that CO or NM? Also what kind of Trout was that, the bright red underside was incredible! Can’t be native fish right?

Its a cutthroat trout. Im not good at all the subspecies but my guess is Colorado river cutt. They obviously aren’t native to the most alpine lakes but they are native to the state

@@frankwestphal4525 correct , all the high elevation lakes are stocked. These were Colorado rivers. You never know hiking into lakes since they don’t spawn a deep freeze can kill off a lake.

@@AboutTrout Weird, This one lake I went to had fish grouped up around this flat a couple of big red males were staying in a pretty confined area, chasing off smaller fish. A month later they had all dispersed.

Who doesn't pack food & water? LOL Tried to get to Deer Lake in Mammoth (11,000+ feet, beastly hike). Had my first backpack fail due to not acclimating a few days ahead of time (2,000 feet in 5 miles). But would love to fish wherever you were. Going to try again in October (much easier, Thousand Island Lake in Mammoth). Thanks for sharing the video.

watched an old video where you recommend On X the map app. Looked on the description and it seems great but I was wondering: In colorado for example, we have SWA land, BLM land, National parks, State Parks, and even state trust land (which is technically private in some cases), do you know if the app covers all of these layers? I know you might not know the answer to this but I figured since im looking at it off your recommendation I should see if you knew.

OnX has all those property type layers and a few more. It's a great tool to have for any outdoor activity.

OnX layers what you described , the only thing I’ve noticed it lacks are some easement loop holes in New Mexico but that being said even New Mexico doesn’t know. IE the easement on the Brazos is now gone as if 2021. Can’t recommend ONX enough. Always use your best discretion though as there can be errors at times.

@@AboutTrout I second this. OnX is insanely great, it is on par with Gaia. Though I find the UI easier so I kept with it instead.

Good to know there are some states that still want to support alpine lake fisheries. California fish and wildlife has done their best to ruin it.
