Hi Scott! Oh my! You gotta try more specifically the micro worm, I think it would work well on the Gunpowder. I think the small size of the micro worm (0.75”), in the cerise color, with the micro ultra chenille with a small gold rib, would be a pattern that catches the fish’s attention and be an appetizing offering. I’ll send you a text with some suggestions for the Gunpowder, I’m assuming it’s one of your home streams that you’re pretty familiar with. I’ve never fished it but I should try and make an effort this year, maybe we can hookup. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Enjoyed the video Scott. I have seen more wild rainbows in our region of the state. Depending on the closest river or major stream that the one your fishing flows into, rainbows that were stocked in those waterways or other streams that flow into them, the rainbows migrate into them. Additionally, I have heard that individuals are placing fertilized eggs into shallow runs and riffs that enable them to hatch out and grow. I understand that someone did this into a York county stream at or near two to three tributaries that feed the stream. Additionally, a mile or two downstream the fish commission stocks. It’s possible that carryover stockers could be reproducing. I do believe this is testament that our waterways are getting better. This is especially true since farmers have changed farming practices that reduced soil disruption by planting field crop as no- till. This reduces soil runoff and keeping silt from entering streams. I noticed over the last several years certain streams clearing faster after rainfall. I am certainly enthused at the numbers of small tributaries teaming with brook and even brown trout. 10-20 years ago this was not possible. So combination of all these factors is reaping rewards for those of us that esteem clean trout waters. Folks that like fishing for trout need to explore close to home. They will be surprised.

Hi Ed! Since fishing this day, I have learned that this stream IS on the fish commission’s fingerling stocking list, I am a little disappointed hearing this, but a little happy that some are holding over. Still, I think the overall outlook for wild trout is very good, amazing how some dirty streams over time seem to clean themselves up. I really appreciate your insight. Good morning Mirna! Ok, I’m using my Wulff Triangle Taper 3wt floating fly line, then my 50” Shorty Cutthroat Furled Leader, then 5ft of 4x Flouro, then my tandem rig, flies are about 16” apart, continually adjusting my weight throughout the day. Hope this helps. Appreciate you watching and commenting.

@mikeroberti8525 11 ай бұрын
Hi Scott. Thanks for the reminder about the closed vs open streams. On your cuttthroat leader- do you use the shorty (camo) over the indicator (red) due to less visibility to the fish? Both are same length, or is shorty thinner as it is recommended for dry fly? I used the indicator 50” but it’s weight creates more deflection ( I only have 9’ rod) so I replaced with Rio 2 tone ( thinner but harder to cast )
@pawoodsnwater7551
@pawoodsnwater7551 11 ай бұрын
Hi Mike! I use the Cutthroat Shorty 50” green color, yes it is more so for dries but works just as well for nymphing for me, I never really used the built-in sighter on the nymphing leaders and I like the fact that it is overall lighter in weight. But their regular nymphing leaders still work great, and if you’re a sighter or indicator guy, no reason to stop using them, I just personally like the Shorty better. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@pawoodsnwater7551

Good morning Anthony! I stopped using the Squirmy material, way too fragile for me and get soft and melts sometimes. The San Juan Ultrachanille material is great, very durable and similar squiggly action, maybe a little less squiggly but definitely still liked by the fishies, and much much easier to tye with and comes in different diameters too. Naa, I’m sorry, can’t make the Lancaster show. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Hi Matt! I’m using the Orvis pro net, I didn’t like the original net, so I replaced it with a full 100% rubber net, but I love the frame. Unless im wrong It appears to me you’re usually using no form of indicator or sighter in the leader and floating the fly line. Why do you prefer that method? I never see this method talked about but you seem to be very good at it.
@pawoodsnwater7551
@pawoodsnwater7551 11 ай бұрын
Good morning Andrew! You’re absolutely correct! Honestly, it’s the way I’ve been doing it for 50 years, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. I did use indicators for about two years, but eventually I went back to my old way. Several things I didn’t like: I hate mending, with indicators you have to mend, when you mend you disturb your drift, indicators and sighters, for the most part, are stationary, guys get lazy, even me , and don’t adjust the indicator as often as they should for varying depths and flows, I can constantly adjust my focal point by raising or lowering my rod throughout the drift, I don’t like the added weight of the indicator on my leader, especially while casting. I don’t like not knowing what’s really going on with my drift under the indicator, with my method I feel more in contact with my tandem rig. Also, I don’t like having to rely on another piece of equipment to think I need it to catch fish. I believe you can train yourself to focus on whatever it is to detect a strike, for me, it’s my whole line or leader depending on the distance I’m fishing, at times I’m focusing on the belly of my line, or somewhere around where my line enters the water. If guys are having a hard time focusing or detecting hits, then an indicator or sighter can help them but each has their pros and cons. Just some examples of why I prefer my way. Hope it explains some of my reasons. Appreciate you watching and commenting.

@@pawoodsnwater7551 it’s interesting to watch. I’m newish to fly fishing and take in a lot of content from podcasts and KZbin and don’t think I ever see this style. @pawoodsnwater7551
@pawoodsnwater7551 11 ай бұрын
@@andrewwhite5808 I’m using a standard weight forward floating fly line, actually I’m using Wulff Triangle Taper, then I’m using a 50” Cutthroat Shorty Furled Leader for my leader’s butt section, then 5’ of 4x Flouro, then my tandem rig. If I’m dry fly fishing, I’ll add 3’ more of 5x or 6x then my dry fly. So my overall leader length for nymphing is around 9 feet, for dry fly fishing it’s 12 feet. My guess is you were introduced to fly fishing starting out with euro nymphing but never had any of the basics of traditional fly fishing methods. I always felt that euro nymphing was an advanced level , coming from the competitive angling side, which is fine, but there is a whole traditional, much more simple way to enjoy fly fishing without all the technical details in euro nymphing, which from the traditional side you can enjoy much more line control and cast much easier and enjoy the dry fly fishing and casting and switching back and forth from nymphing to dry flies in a few minutes without limiting yourself to only 20-30ft, not carrying an extra rod or reel or spool, and being ready, on stream, for whatever conditions present. You don’t have to fish like a competitive angler to enjoy catching fish with good results. There’s many other things that play into your success on stream, like reading water, wading properly, having patience, know your bugs, having a strategy of how you’re going to hit the stream to put more advantages in your favor, don’t spook fish, when to fish and not passing over good water, just to mention a few. But, to each his own, as long as you’re having fun.

The San Juan worm, and the squirmy wormy do work out for me reasonably well after a rain and the water is a bit stained. The only problem I have with these patterns is that it seems to twist my lineup and get me all tangled up within about 5 to 10 drifts. Is there anything I could be doing differently to prevent this from happening?
@pawoodsnwater7551
@pawoodsnwater7551 11 ай бұрын
Good morning Mike! I’m guessing you’re San Juan worm may be a little too long, I make them three sizes, Lg 2.5”, Med 1.5”, Micro .75”, I’ve placed them in all different positions in my tandem rig and never really had a problem with twisting, also I usually nymph with 4x or 5x tippet, rarely ever lighter, if I do, it’s when I’m fishing midge pupas in flat water, light tippets with bigger flies will definitely cause twisting, especially with big dries. Conservation efforts aren’t really an excuse to request that people blast stream names on social media so they get inundated with fishermen (which usually means subsequently trashed and then posted signs go up). Some streams are no secret, and you’ll see that Scott is usually much more generous than others when it comes naming those streams in his videos. There’s enough context clues in the video to get people started on doing their own research, and the fishing is much more rewarding when you do the legwork. It took a couple hours and cross checking multiple sources of info, but I figured it out even though it’s 3 hours away from me and I may never actually get my boots wet there. But if I do, I’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that I didn’t wait around for somebody to post the stream name on the internet.
