Wow! I'm a major newb to FF and have been practicing & watching instructional vids in preparation for this coming year. This is, without question, the best casting instructional video I've seen. Very well filmed and the explanations of common errors is even better. Something that really jumped out at me: By starting your back cast with your rod tip low and no slack line, your rod was loading before it it reached 3 o'clock: very efficient. Thanks...BTW: you were double hauling...

Wow just seeing this out of the box kzbin.infoUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

Hey mate. Thanks for the video, I've not long started out with the fly. After watching this video I've more than doubled my casting distance and I feel I can keep going. Thw good thing about this video is the fact you point out all the bad casting techniques, I was able to recognize what i was doing wrong and correct it. Thanks again!!!!!

Great video. The high-vis line makes it easy to follow. I am just learning to cast a fly rod, this is a big help.

watching this in slow motion with explanation has helped me

Very helpful. Slow motion really helps you visualize the technique. Thx.

Thanks, great video. One of the few I can see the fly line on. Your worst cast on this video is better then my best cast. I need a few more thousand of hours of practice I guess ;)

Thanks for taking the tme for this! My teacher often binds my wrist to the rod, saying that NO wrist break is acceptable. Your wrist breaks in your stroke. Is a bit of that okay?

Thanks for the video! Im going down to Key West this summer to do some fishing. This really helped with my casts. Thanks again!

It provides a more secure grip for larger rods and longer casts. i use it on all rods and find it much more comfortable. It is, however, a matter of personal preference.

Great vid! You make it look so easy! Its not, I have only been out once so far, but I love it.

When learning the basic stroke, you should not be pulling on the line either forward or back. The short tug on the line is called hauling and is a technique used to increase line speed and add a little distance but is not a substitute for proper form. Your hands should remain fairly close together so the line hand should follow the reel hand through the stroke.

great video.Nice to see the slo-mo!! One thing I need clarification on is what to be doing with your left hand upon casting and it's pulling back and releasing times? I didn't hear that covered. I know what is happening when stripping line back. It seems that when you are on the backcast, you are pulling line down from the rod, is that right? always release on the forward right? cheers :)

thanks i have always been bending my wrist and i wondered why i was getting bad casts but now i know why

nice video, very informative although what about releasing line, what time is the best to release, I'm assuming it would be as the line is being thrown forward.

It is a TFO TiCr 7wt with a Scientific Anglers Expert Distance taper line and a Greys reel.

I often need to do the same as bending the wrist is the most common mistake I encounter. There may be tiny amounts of wrist break in a good cast but that is for advanced casters. Look at 2:53 of this video and that is wrist breaking. The result is a poor cast. On the proper casts, you will see that the angle between the butt of the rod and the forearm changes very little, if at all.

Ideally, you want to have to make the fewest false casts possible. By starting with adequate line outside your tip, combined with shooting and slipping line you can quickly reach long distances. You have just given me an idea for another video on this subject. Subscribe to my channel and stay tuned.

When casting my line sometimes catches on the tip of my rod (always on the backstroke), is this also due tailing? and what can i do to prevent this from happening?

when casting why do they say to use your thumb on the grip, versus using your index finger ?

Question, I can cast like no other mother on the grass. Get water tension involved and it feels like the line is jangling thru the ferrules, no smoothness at all. What is that? What can I do?
@CaptChrisMyers10 жыл бұрын
Recker Rit Have you looked at my video titled @watch?v=o06O7RxIWtY&list=PLDAQkJ6j5owpgTQ4w0i34XcJ5pVy71qaL&index=10 It may be you are trying to start the cast to quickly. The pickup on the water should be just as gentle as on the grass. No extra power should be required.
@fullstrutn9 жыл бұрын
so to follow through you only drop the tip of the rod AFTER the fly hits the water?
@CaptChrisMyers9 жыл бұрын
fullstrutn You could do it that way but the follow through can begin after the loop has formed off the tip when you come to the stop.
