FLY FISHING DRIFTLESS REGION | IS THIS REALLY IN IOWA? | Unexpected Catch & Dodging Deer Hunters

The magic land they call Iowa never seems to disappoint! This is a cheeky session with my boy Blake in the Yellow River State Forest just outside of Marquette Iowa! We were fishing Paint Creek on the opening morning of shotgun season in Iowa! We sure heard a lot of action but we managed to avoid getting shot which is always nice! Winter is here and the trout are getting a bit more sluggish and picky! The water is low and clear and there was a good chance they were seeing us from a country mile away! Regardless we were still able to get into a few awesome fish and make the day more than worth it. Cold fingers are always made worth while by hanging with a good friend and finding a few fish! Get out and enjoy the winter.

A pressured area but absolutely gorgeous. Paint Creek is a beautiful stream featuring layered limestone walls winding through a valley of majestic, wooded bluffs. In some spots there are no signs of civilization and you can get a sense of being in a more wild or remote place, not Iowa. If you're not catching fish, you can still appreciate the scenery. I love it up there.

Paint is great for Brown trout. Caught my PB there a couple years ago. 19.5 incher. Wasn't even geared up just stepped out of the truck for a test cast and bam. Soon after that my buddy lost one we guessed it to be a lot bigger. Feesh On

Just keep following the forest service road down off of the main road! That place is massive and they have so many cool places to explore!
